Corvette Grand Sport to return for 2010?

According to a Montana Chevrolet dealer, the bow-tie automaker will revive the Corvette Grand Sport label in both coupe and convertible forms for 2010. Even though sales of Corvettes are sluggish - just as they are throughout the market - GM has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to the Corvette brand.

Ken Fichtner of Fitchner Chevrolet in Billings, Montana, posted on CorvetteForum.com that Chevrolet will offer six models of the Corvette for 2010: the standard coupe and convertible, Z06, ZR1 and, new for 2010, the Grand Sport in both coupe and convertible variants.

Fichtner didn’t spill the beans on just what the Grand Sport will entail - and without any details, we won’t speculate too much for now on this new model, which is likely to slot below the Z06 but above the base models.

It has been a busy season for Corvettes, despite the overall trend away from buying new cars, let alone new, high performance cars. The 2009 Corvette Competition Sport and the GT1 Championship Edition made their appearances earlier this year.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see GM announce the new Corvette model at the New York International Auto Show next week.

I've heard talk of this as well. Pretty cool. I just hope the Vette is still around in 2010

We'll get a "green" Vette. A nice 2.4L 4 cylinder that gets 40mpg. But it will look good doing it.

Anyone want to find a C6 image and do some Grand Sport photochopping just to see what a modern rendition would look like? Don't forget the black rims.

Well, that's the thing isn't it? As nice as the GT1 Championship Edition looks, it's stickers & paint. At least the Competition Sport has some performance stuff.

To use the Grand Sport name, the car should be very, very special. One can only hope.

I can remember anticipating the new GTO which turned into a 4 door grocery getter.

Might be, I took a look at the GTO when it came out and was disgusted. 2 or 4, it's still a Holden.

My buddy just got the new G8 4 door w/a v8. Nice looking, he says it screams.

As far as the grand sport....just leave it alone - aren't there enough versions already for now?

I'm sure it does, so do 4 door Evos, etc. But it just makes them fast 4 door grocery getters.

Say what you will. I'd take a Cadillac CTS-V any day!

I used to do commercials for a Caddy dealer. My buddy there let me drive one with a 6 speed. Man, that was nice!

I scared him a little...

I have this video game for my PS3 called Midnight Club Los Angeles. You can design paint, vinyl, interior and exterior colors, wheels brakes and such. Here is what I came up with. Note red guts!

A compilation of features. Perhaps someone else can speak to whether the extra cooling is a result of air management or additional
coolers.

[indent]Wide body kit on steel frame w/ targa top
Z06 wheel widths
Z06-size brakes, (14" rotors w/ six-piston fr calipers & 13.4" w/ four-piston rr calipers)
Functional brake ducts and extra cooling
Distinct suspension tuning
- 1.0g target
- Better than previous Z51

Z52 - only avail for Manual Coupes
- Battery relocated to right rear qtr
- Dry sump on LS3
- 'Enhanced cooling'

Improved accel while still 436HP.
Hoping for 3.x 0-60 time. Saying 4.0 flat.
- wider tires
- better weight distribution

26 MPG highway

90% of the performance of a C6Z at lower cost

Steel frame is easier to fix

You can get it as a convertible.

I'm a huge fan of the C6 Z51 and the Z06.

Although the fender gills and the badge is somewhat goofy on this new GS, I love the hybridization of the two cars at a lower price.

I was also a little disapointed by the numbers that are planned to be produced, as this will do away with the Z51 option on the standard coupe.

I would love to own one anyway!

More importantly, easier to weld a cage in.

Also, the GS is supposed to have a true Dry Sump oil system, whereas the Z06 has a sort of hybrid. I'm not sure of the difference, this is all the info I heard.

Wow - to be honest with you, I didn't even look at the specs. I just thought GM did the typical BS and made it an "appearance package" type deal. Not bad.

Still not a fan of the gills, but the idea of the wide body without the Z06 price tag is nice.

I very much prefer the flared fenders over the stock C6 body. But I have no real need of the extra performance in the real world.

How long before I can pick one up for $25k?
