Finally got the car back, went to pick it the Friday before July 4th and found spots that did not look good, so they kept it and worked on it for another week or two
I am very pleased with the final outcome, they wet sanded and polished it, and it looks very good. It has some pop to it and is a bit brighter than the stock 85 cream color white, the car was 100% dis-assembled, block sanded, painted, wet sanded and buffed, $6500 I am happy to be able to see reflections in the paint and all I need to do now is re-paint the underside of the hood and fine tune the hood alignment to my liking, BMW Alpine White paint code 300 |

Looks good! That's about right in line with what a good paint job should cost. Did they have to do any repair work? New weatherstripping, window felts, etc? Any more details?
(edit: when we first looked there were no pics, then they "magically" appeared) |

Lookin' really good, Larry. How are you going to paint the hood? If you plan to use rattle cans and If you want the same semi-gloss black, may I suggest Duplicolor High Temp. Ceramic. I use it a lot. |

I guess you all don't wanna hear about my paint job.
However, that looks SWEET! Excellent finish. I love white with red accents. A very American look. |

Thanks guys, buy my rough estimates, I now have invested @ $20,000 into a $3500 car (so far)PRICELESS!
But, it can hang with some fast cars right now and it looks good doing it! More to come, D1 style! |

I painted the underside of teh hood once, will do it the same way again.
I used the Krylon Semi-Flat Rust paint and it turned out well, I shot a small spot using the BBQ grill paint and it was really dull and uneven ,so I recommend using the Krylon listed above. |

Looks great - I get the feeling that a repaint is not that far out for my 1985 ...
... I'm probably into mine for close to what you are in yours. |

you do... but what kind of C5 could you get for $20k? And have the satisfaction of building it right? And the lower insurance rates? That's my logic... |

100% agree, every time I think about the cost, I understand that the car is rock solid, done right, plenty fast, very enjoyable, and paid for :-)

When you put a second coat could you take a pic of your prep. I could use and underhood repaint myself. My thought is you have to cover from the winsheild back, drape a blanket over the engine bay and fenders. Mask and paper the outside of the hood. Yes, no, maybe? Overspray? |

IMO I like the idea of having a fast C4. Not putting down a C5 but there are style and handling differences. Sorry, I'm drifting off the repaint topic but it was brought up. There are many rebuilds that outweigh the dollars and sense. Sometimes you do something because you can. I agree with Andy. |
