We had the same deal in Pueblo Colorado. 70 on Saturday, and blowing snow on Sunday. Crazy with a capital "F"!

I feel like winter has lasted about three years... Probably just me getting older.

Is your car back home and running, Vetteblondie?

Tuesday is my Monday this week and it started off like one... Snowing like crazy a whole 29° here in Arkansas, and to think, just Sunday afternoon it was a beautiful 75° here and I was sunbathing out on the deck with a cold beer. What's happening to the weather? Geez....

The missed 3rd gear absolutely hurt your 1/8ET on the 1st run. Just look at the mph. You should be more than halfway through 3rd in the 1/8th.

The water did not help your launch, it gets in the tire treads and hurts your traction.

Water is used on drag radials and slicks to make em slippery enough to do a long controlled burnout, this also burns any water off the tire. It serves no purpose on street tires or anything with a short spin. It will get rid of wheel hop, because you have less traction!

I think you can just attach photos to your post straight from your computer, it's right below where you enter the text.

I think I spoke with TLD, they claimed their racks were rebuilt locally, vs. AC Delco which wasn't, but wouldn't tell me where. (They want me to pay more for better quality, but they can't substantiate it!)

I bought mine here:

www.meridianautoparts.com

Steering racks is what they do. The quality was obvious, comparing side by side with a Cardone reman, although I didn't disassemble it or anything.

The code is important, it determines whether it's Z51 or not. The codes changed over the years. But my replacement's code didn't match any of them.

Some of them might get misboxed anyways. Basically, turn the rack with a crescent wrench and count the turns. 2-turns is a Z51 rack, 2.25 turns is a base model rack.
They are interchangeable, except that your turn signal cancelling switch won't work the same if you convert.

Quote:
Here's some rack info from Delco's catalog, and some codes:

84-85
YM 2.5 turns AC-Delco 36-16252
AJ AK YP 2 turns AC-Delco 36-16303

84-87
CA WL WU 2.5 turns AC-Delco 36-16305 (um, two base model 84-85 racks? wtf?)

86-87
WT 2 turns AC-Delco 36-16306

88-92
w/17" wheel AC-Delco 36-16352 (presumably, 88-91 Z51/2/FE7 cars)

88-96
w/16" wheel AC-Delco 36-16228 (presumably, 88-92 base model cars and all 93+ cars)

I think any corvette in decent shape should bring $5,000.

Some may get a better deal than that, but still they got to be worth $5,000.

It's a corvette!

With the right marketing, you should be able to get $6,500 easy.

Find a first time corvette buyer and you might get more out of it.

Sell it to a previous corvette owner, and it will be worth less.

I believe the tab on the side that says "Inbox" becomes red if you have new mail. Mine was red all day, even though I had messed around in there, but it is standard grey/grey today.

Very nice. How does the ride compare to the monoleaf?

Any track time on this setup yet?

(And did you hafta use a 2x4 to hold the hood up, or did you upgrade to the strut?)

A speaker box would not kill the deal for me. I would want to see how it was mounted, and see how much of a mess I would need to clean up if I were to take it out though. Could be a bargaining chip.

Also, if easily removed, I bet you could sell the box for a couple bucks.

Was that Z06 driver running drag radials?

You have no business going in the water box with street tires. You probably didn't get wheel spin on the 3rd run because you let the clutch out too fast and bogged it down too much.

On street tires I drive around the water and do a quick spin to clean them off. Street tires overheat way too easily and lose traction, unlike a drag radial which gets stickier as it heats up.

1/10th lost on the 60' will cost you about 1.5/10ths on the 1/8th and 2/10ths in the 1/4. So your last two runs are very close.

Try getting your launch down to 2.00, this can be tough if the track prep is poor, but others have gotten into the 1.8s on street tires.

Spin em one run, bog it on the next, and keep working your way towards the sweet spot. It's impossible to do at a busy track if you only get 3 runs in per night. I went to the local 1/8th mile, which sucks, but I was able to get in 12+ runs at a time. The first few always ended up being throwaways, but at least you don't have to worry about wasting a run experimenting on your launch. All the work is done in the first 100' anyways.

Went to Beech Bend with my 01 6sp Z51 cp. last Saturday. It was my first time at the track with this car. And the 1st time since 1994 that I was at the track with a manual shift car.

All things considered I was very happy with the end result.

On the 1st 2 runs I didn't do a burnout. Tire pressure was set at 29 hot after the 90 mile trip there.

1st run...Launched at about 2000 rpm, some spinning and wheel hop. Also some spin and hop in second. 60ft 2.11 1/8= 8.66 @ 79.12 1/4 = 13.43 @ 104.87....missed 3rd on this run.

2nd run...Launched at 3,000 rpm lots of spin and started wheel hop after the tree. 60ft 2.22 1/8= 8.75 @ 86.15 1/4 13.34 @ 108.65

3rd run... After to talking to an 11 sec. C5 Z06 driver I backed into the water and did a short burnout, then went straight to the line. I launched at about 1,800 rpm and got the clutch out real quick.

I then mashed the throttle, the car might have bogged some but there was no spin that I noticed. Also no spin or hop in second. 60ft 2.14 1/8= 8.60@ 86.48 1/4 = 13.16 @ 109.80

I'm pretty much a raw rookie at racing a 6speed so I made no flat shifts. I shifted as quick as I could but did a full but quick throttle lift between shifts. Also I was hitting 4th just before the traps. I also shifted at 5,600 - 5,800 rpm a few hundred rpm below red line just to be safe...

I'm pretty sure there is a 12 second run in the car but not so sure it has a 12 second driver. Maybe MR Mojo will be avalible to drive her into the 12's when he visits Beech Bend... Anyway I was more than happy to run 13.1 at almost 110...

My computer opens my pictures with Windows Picture and Fax viewer when I double click on the icon for the picture. At the bottom toward the right there is a button that, when you scroll over it, says "Closes this program and opens the image for editing". Click on that button. The picture will open in another program. Click on the image tab, then on stretch/skew in the drop down window that pops open. Under stretch, lower both percentages the same, then click OK. The picture will resize automatically. Click on image again, then click on attributes on the drop down window that pops open. This will show you the pixels. Don't change them here or it will crop your image. If it is still too big then go back to the stretch/skew and lower the percentage again. Every time you go back to stretch/skew it will show 100%, as it has changed the image and you are now at 100% of the new image size. Hope this helps. It sounds complicated but you will see it is a VERY quick and very simple way of downsizing pictures and keeping them proportional and not cropping them.

Supposed to be bad storms near DC this evening, but at least it won't be the frozen variety.

2 more minutes of daylight today, and 1 day closer to Springtime!

I like the idea of two stripes with runners. Like a '70 Chevelle. But if I ever put stripes like that on a Vette, I would probably run them all the way off the car, like the GS does.

Unfortunately, that would be a PITA with a sticker.

So what you've got there is cool enough. Although the high angle of the Red car makes the rear deck stripes look way too small. Or maybe they are supposed to be tapered, like the front. I would not taper them. I would leave them full width on the rear deck.

And again, if you are going to do a sticker, I would not bring it all the way down to the emblem. The spacing around the logo makes it too obvious that its a sticker.

JMHO.

He has a set already for the C4 that goes down the bumper like the GS too. I actually thought that would look better too. We emailed back and forth last night and we are going to create a custom C4 stripe, kind of a hybrid of the GS but split. I'm still trying to figure the angle of the front edge of the stripe relative to the hood that will look the best. I'd like it to be wider in the front something like the old LT-1 hood stripe of the early 70s

Just got one of the pooches back from the vet. They had a little disagreement over a smoked pigs ear and she got the worst of it. A little tear by her left eye that required a few stitches. No eye damage thank goodness. Wife goes to see a doctor today about a lump in the lymph node in/near her left breast. Surgery is in the future. So all in all it's just like any another Tuesday.

I tried one of the plastic headliner inserts for the glass roof also. Ecklers I think.

The bottom side looked fine, but as mentioned above, you could see the unfinished white plastic top-side from above when you looked at the top of the targa from outside.

I sent it back and resigned myself to the fact that I had to have a hardtop, and would wait until the right one came along for the right price.

Unfortunately, this is the 4th booster I have put in my 91. The 1st one I bought from Chevy. It split in 13 months. The second, from AutoZone. It lasted 3 weeks. The replacement has lasted 1 1/2 years, but it's a lifetime warranty. I was pleasently surprised when I swapped out the last booster to find AutoZone had, apparently, switched suppliers.
The new booster has a metal casing, the pushrods seems more solid and is generally tougher. You might try AZone and take a look at the booster your local store has. For my $0.02, I would NOT recommend going to the stealership. The part is WAY more expensive and without any warranty
Now, if I can get the brakes to stop the car, I would be happier than h-ll. I have one of those Vettes that has the mushy brakes and have not been able to find why - yet.
I hope it helps
Good Luck
Subman

Washington Center.

2 controllers per area per day have to do the quick-turn for the mid each night. Usually the most senior people.

2 years 07 months 30 days until retirement.

But who's counting?

dude... that schedule is crap. I can't believe they would make you do a shift change on the same day!!!

I am soooo glad I ain't flying into that control center!!!

Then again... others are doing the same, I suspect.

This is a normal day... except we have a huge meeting at 1p... that is expected to last 4 hrs!!!

Tuesday is really Monday for me.

I'm off Sun/Mon, work Tue 3-11, Wed 12-8, Thu 7-3, Fri 6-2 and then right back to work @ 11pm the same day to work the mid shift.

Like being an air traffic controller/instructor at the 3rd busiest radar facility on the planet isn't stressful enough without a schedule like this.

JMHO.
