I can't see Tommy's picture/video, but Bill, that wiener dog is a cute one.

pretty normal Monday here at school. Dang I have to be here the entire week...unless we have a snow day (not likely). It is snowing here today, but it's very light and fluffy. I am really ready for spring time to get here.

Hey guys, I've been fighting travel in the winter weather the last 36 hours. Things were not all that bad Friday and Saturday morning. Went over to the daughter's house to finish up a couple of things (which I did), then the wife and I were headed to church and I got a bad feeling in my stomach about the weather getting bad so we just loaded up our stuff at the other daughters house and headed out.

It was pretty bad by the time we got an hour away from KC. Cars/Trucks/SUV's all off in the ditches, accidents; icy patches/snowpacked spots, but I continued on thinking "It's got to get better". Well it does......a little. I decide that we get to the in-laws place (a little over half way home (3 1/2 hours normally)) and we'll stay there Sat night. Well we get off I70 and head southwest and this car comes flying up on me like the roads are normal. He slows to my pace and hangs back there about 500 feet. We go through this town and on the south side is a river and corresponding bridge. I cautiously begin to accelerate after getting off the bridge, I look in my rear view mirror to see my 'shadow' start fishtailing and then do a 360 in the middle of the highway. they get stopped before they go off the road. I slow down to stop and thinking I'd turn around to see if they need help. Then they pull back out and start moving again so I figure that they are OK.

I continue on (more cautiously than before) and about 12 miles down the road I encounter a slow moving S10 pickup, more like almost stopped. I step on the brakes to find the road is covered in black ice, I successfully slow down enough to realize that this guy is being way overly cautious. I gently move around him and safely make it to the in-laws place. 5 hours after we leave KC about an hour and a half longer than usual. Today we wake to an additional 4 inches of snow on top of the ice. We wait until one to head out. Basically the further west we went the better the roads became.

With that being said, I'm pooped.

Don, that HU looks pretty cool should be a nice addition. Tommy, I yearn for springtime, and I haven't had it as bad as most other here. Bill, you sure you're not in Kansas, that sounds pretty normal to us here.

Morning guys....I guess it's afternoon now. I've been up and to three woodworking places today. didn't buy anything at the first place, but picked up a couple things for a job I have going at the second and went back to the Woodworking show and picked up a couple of tools to finish up my shopping.

We will head home tomorrow for a 'normal' week of work, before heading back up here next weekend. We will be greeting a new grandchild then.

Sure hope changing the filter fixes your problem, Matt, but I'm not holding my breath.

afternoon guys, I got up and went to the daughters house and hung the last cabinet. Did a little electrical work and then we went to Red Lobster to eat lunch and then my wife dropped me at the woodworking show. It was OK, I didn't spend too much on myself. but bought a $400 tool for a friend that could not make the show.

Brad, you need to hoist a few for those of us unfortunate ones that have to stay in the cold weather.

Don, the wine tasting each Friday sounds like a great time.

Sorry to hear about your issues, Matt. But better get used to it. I can never understand the other sex. Today is my last day of school for this week. I'm heading out to KC after school today and attend the Woodworking Show tomorrow. Down to 68 contract days and haven't heard anything from the superintendent about my 'offer' to stay and teach the four hours in the morning next year, so I'm thinking they don't want to accept my offer. Oh well, I think I can make things work anyway.

Morning guys. I was busy yesterday, and worked the b-ball games last night. Got home about 10pm, tired, so I went to bed. Yes it is hump day, I'll try to remind my wife of that (hehehe). But I only have one more day this week. Tomorrow after school, I am headed back to KC for the Woodworking Show Friday. This has been a great week, I could easily get used to three day weeks.

I picked up another set of cabinets to build yesterday, so worked on the plans and bill of materials, so I can order materials.

Hey, we made it home finally. IT was still snowing off and on when we left and the roads were pretty crappy for the first hour or so (Topeka). Once we got west of Topeka we just had to fight the wind. Stopped in Salina to grab a quick bite and fill up, there was a brave soul out in his C6 coupe there at the cafe, I tipped my hat to him...I was wearing my Corvette hat and jacket. Stopped again about two hours later to p33. Then another two hours on home. I got the pickup unloaded of all the tools that I had taken with me. I really wanted to wash the truck, but it was getting dark and cooling off pretty dramatically by then, so I'll wait until tomorrow to rinse it off.

I'll be glad to get back to school tomorrow, I need a break.

That is right at the intersection that we take to my daughters house. My wife had just taken off to go shopping when that occurred. Luckily she was going the other direction. My other daughter's(I have two that live in the KC area) in-laws were just leaving and they just missed this as well. He said the first collision happen right behind him. Then all h@*ll broke loose.

Morning guys. I went back to my daughters last night and finished up all I could do. Worked until 12:30am. This morning I loaded up everything and am now ready to head west. The wife wants to do some shopping before we head back.

This coming weekend (Thursday night actually) we head back here to KC. I have the Woodworking show to attend here, Friday & Saturday. Hopefully we will not have to work on the remodel project, they should be ready for carpet this week. The only thing left is to track down an electrical issue but I think they can do that. I am hoping that my portion of this project is complete. We will head home then on Sunday.

The next weekend we head back again to KC (third weekend in a row. But this time it will be for the arrival of #9 grandchild. The daughter whose house we have been remodeling is scheduled for a C-section on March 1 (thus the reason that we have been working so hard to get the remodel done). I'll be ready for spring break.

I didn't get to watch the race at all, must not have been too exciting. The weather here has been coooooooold. Snowed pretty good yesterday, enough to cause driving problems. Just on I435 where we get on/off for the daughters they had a 40 car pileup because they are idiots around here. Haven't heard if anyone was seriously injured, but it shutdown a section of the road for 6 hours.

Well, got to head out for home....6 hours at minimum. Talk to you guys later.

Hey guys, I've been working my butt off. Got home from P-T conferences Thursday night (about 8:30pm), started loading up and I told the wife, "Lets just head out tonight." We made a couple phone calls and then headed out about 9pm. We pulled into our daughter's house @ 3:00am. Got up about 8 and worked all day setting floor tile and other little jobs, worked 'til about 9:30pm. Saturday got up about 7:30 and worked grouting the floors, got the cabinets hung, the toilet set and painting done. Finished up last night about 8pm. This morning got up and went to church, got back about 9:30 ate a little breakfast and started in putting base and casing up. Helped the SIL do a little plumbing. Found out the door we had was a 30" and I framed the hole (back in the summer) for a 32", so we had to go get a different door. I'm headed back now to try and hang that door yet tonight. I have a little more trim to put up tomorrow before we head home. Got to go.

The weather missed us again....went south of us....again. Not that I am complaining. Upper 30's today, and in the mid 40's tomorrow and into the lower 50's by mid next week.

We are running a reverse schedule this morning, so I'm all screwed up (more than normal ). It makes for an easy day for me though as one of those hours is my plan time. This afternoon we have P-T conferences until 8pm. This afternoon/evening is going to be long......

Have a good day, I'll try to check in later......

Congrats to Matt for finishing up the flooring project. But a huge congrats to Brad for not smoking for three months. And Tommy for being a big banana.

Yesterday was a nice day weather-wise 39* and sunny. Today's a bit dreary and chance of snow. Last full day of school for the week, tomorrow is half day and then we have P-T conferences until 8pm. But the payoff is no school at all Friday or Monday (Presidents day). So we are off to KC to try and get the remodel project closer to finished. Hopefully finish everything that I can do. It's been a big, long drawn out, expensive, long distance project that I will be happy to see done.

Hope you all have a great day.

Morning guys...It's been very hectic this morning. I guess I'm one of those that seems to have a perfect marriage (Yea right). My wife is very appreciative of the things I do. Just sometimes, it seems she doesn't like to see me relax....uhg. I don't complain as she mows and takes care of the yard, she shovels the snow (I'll help, but she takes the initiative). I take care of the cars, the house and work on my extra cabinet jobs.

Have a good day.

Well, I guess the Saints won. I worked a while yesterday and then watched HGTV. Sorry guys I just can't get into the Pro-Football thing.

The weather system just glanced off us last night and this morning. We are hosting a regional 'Scholars Bowl' today here at the high school, so we have a short day...students excused at noon. I'm not helping so I have all afternoon to fill. I brought some of my detailing stuff, so I'm going to clean up my pickup some.

Hope you all have a great day.

If it's anything like the last several years, we'll have to pay. We make quarterly payments on top of our regular deductions (because of my cabinetry business). And it never seems to be enough.

That's cool Tommy, go for a ride, have your car in TV commercial, and get paid for it....can't beat a deal like that with a stick.

Matt it's always nice to finish up a job.

Me...I'm going to start the next cabinet job later. This morning my middle grandson (8 years old) has a b-ball game that we will go to. Supposed to be a decent day today and turn crappy again tomorrow. Not sure I'm ever going to get my CAI kit on the Vette, or the top hats painted.

There's also software that will "snipe" for you. I don't know exactly how it works but basically you tell it which auction and how much you're willing to bid and it will make the bid for you in last few seconds of the auction.

Morning guys. Filling holes with putty is such a PITA, I try to avoid it as much as possible. Glad you found something that works for you.

It's cold here, and supposed to continue through next week. Another winter storm rolling through here Sunday/Monday.

I start my next cabinet job this weekend. Another big cabinet, 95" tall, 60" wide and 25" deep. Not all that hard to build other than the size and horsing it around. Actually building it in two sections 30" wide each.

One of these days I'd like to get the Corvette out and go for a drive, but not until the roads clear up a bit. I bought a HallTech Venom CAI for it and haven't had the opportunity to get it installed yet. I also want to get the top hats of the rotors painted as they look pretty bad all rusty and such. I think I'll paint the calipers at the same time.

Good thing it's Friday the kids are kind of wild and testy.

Everyone have a good day.

Like Bill, I know a fix for the 'floppies'. I gave away in the 'pay it forward' thread over at CF probably 30 sets.

Tom, will you still draw full pension?

Tommy, yes I will receive my full pension. The penalty will be I will have to pay the full amount of KPERS (Kansas Public Employee Retirement System) on my salary. Currently that is about 9% matched by the school district. The plus is I can start receiving the pension and work part time. My pension is free from KS state income tax. This might be a very workable solution for me. This would put me in the same schedule as the wife's work schedule, and still allow me to work on my other cabinet jobs in the afternoon. I'm quite agreeable to this arraignment, if it can be worked out.

We are under another winter weather warning today. Ended up with a a couple inches over night and still coming down. Many area schools are running two hours late, some canceling school altogether. I finished up those cabinets last night and will deliver them this afternoon...after school. While at my church meeting last night, the education director asked me to work on/modify a cabinet for her, and like an idiot I said yes, so I have another cabinet in the shop to work on.

I got a call from the superintendent this morning asking me if I would consider teaching part time next year. As I expected, they are having a hard time finding a replacement. I told him I would be interested in a part time position (4 hours in the morning). This is the same schedule that my wife works, so it will be OK. And I can still do my cabinetry in the afternoons. Might work out for the best.

Matt how much difference is there between the tile and the wood? What kind of transition piece are you going do there? Looking good.

Morning guys. I remember those days Matt. Taxes...uhmmmm. I've been through most of my junk, just waiting for few items to get here, then it will be off to the taxman for him to figure. I suppose I need to make an appointment to talk about this year, with me retiring from teaching and how that might affect my taxes next year.

I made some headway last night on a few of my projects. Basically finished up the daughters things, got the cabinets assembled completely and the door pieces machined and ready to glue up.

That percentage is way too much, Matt. I'm, like Bill, I'd be hollering at the manufacturer. It really looks good though.

Wow, those are so cool. I wonder where he came up with all those odd-ball car models? He's quite an artist.

TV.....? What's that? I haven't had time to sit and watch in weeks. I picked up another cabinet job yesterday, a small one for sure but I promised them I'd have them built by Saturday, good thing I had the materials on hand....what kind of a dummy am I? I did finish up the other cabinet job Sunday afternoon (late). I have three other jobs waiting, and I tell these people I'll do this by Saturday. I'm burning both ends of the candle and the middle too.

Also trying to finish up a couple things for the daughter's remodel, we go up there late next week to lay the tile, put up the trim.... hang a couple of doors, casing and baseboards hang the bathroom cabinets, set the toilet. Good thing I have school, so I can rest...

Morning guys, sounds like everyone has it under control. Me, I've been at it since early. I'm trying to get the doors mounted on the cabinets. I ran into a small problem, so had to come back and fix it. I'm headed back now to try and button this one up.

Well, off and on yesterday I got the backs of the doors finished and the first coat on the fronts. This morning I've been out and sanded the fronts and got the second coat put on. This afternoon I'm going to try and deliver the cabinets and hopefully get them installed. The computer I was working on yesterday in between coats of finish, I finished up about 11pm last night. They picked it up and paid me this morning as well.

Brad, I hate plumbing, so good luck there. Tommy, that would be a nightmare. Flyboy, that doesn't sound too good, I hope you have success flushing out that system. VB, we have 4-6" on the ground here, but the sun is shining today.

Well, I got to go get stuff ready for hauling those cabinets out. See you later.

Matt, you'll probably be OK with that. I'd just sure hate to see that floor push your walls out (and it could do it) Mother-nature doesn't like it when some(one/thing) tries to contain her.

Well Bill, ours isn't quite that low here on the high plains. 18-20% is pretty much normal. Sure allows it to cool off in the summertime evenings. Our ice tea does sweat a little, but not like it does when we go back to visit the girls. That humidity is just unbearable (for me). Maybe it is about time for me to come visit Reno. Our middle daughter was out there a few years ago with her work (some sort of conference/show) and she loved it.

Matt, what species are you putting down? Red Oak, Maple, something exotic? .

It's gotta be different for engineered, right?

Yup, engineered materials are different. As a matter of fact plywoods are very stable. Solid woods are different. Red oak is one that moves the more, maple not so much (1/16-1/8 per foot). Depends on the species. Out in Reno it's probably not as much an issue because typically you have the lower humidity...correct Bill? (I've never been to Reno either)

Heck even where I live (SW Kansas) the wood movement isn't as problematic as it is in Kansas City where my daughters live. When I build furniture for them I have to build it with much less precision/tolerance than when I build for myself.

If it were me I'd follow the manufacturers specs. But that's just me. (When I put my quarter sawn red oak floor down 24 years ago I left 5/8" at each side. And quarter sawn lumber is more stable than plainsawn)
