2011 Memorial Day Car Show Winner!

Well, I finally received my components back today from American Hydrocarbon in Florida. It took four weeks instead of two to three as quoted up front, but I guess that is not too bad. When I opened the box I knew it was worth the wait. The stuff is awesome looking and really seems to add some rigidity and weight to the parts.
Hydrocarbon finishing is a thin film of material that floats on the surface of the water and as the part is dipped into the water the film clings to all the surface irregularities making complete coverage on the part. It then gets several coats of clear paint over it with sanding in between coats. Very nice work. I actually got everything installed back into the car tonight but didn't take any more photos tonight. I will take some tomorrow and post them. But here are a few of the pieces right out of the box today before I re-installed them. |

I wonder if they can do that with solid color films. Like if someone is doing a specific color interior if they can send off the panels to have a film put on that matches the interior color.
If you don't mind me asking what was the cost for all the panels. |

I think he does solid colors too. You would have to look at his website to be sure. I paid $250 plus shipping for the three AC trims, the shift plate / drink holder door, and radio bezel I think that's reasonable considering they have to strip all the old crap off sand and prep the surface, prime and film it. Then several more coats of clear automotive paint and polsh. I don't know if its ok to plug the business here since Pat is not a Guru Paying Vendor, but he should be. You Google American Hydrocarbon if your interested. Maybe Andy will contact him and ask him to shell out some support money in exchange for some advertising. I will warn you that when your waiting for car parts and it takes 4 or 5 weeks to get them back you begin to pace the floor a little bit, so keep that in mind. |

It's ok. Parts look great. I'm impressed that it's not just a film laid over that makes it thicker and washes out detail. You can still read the instructions for the shift lever. Impressive. Maybe next time you'll send your parts priority mail Matthew |

You're right... I did make that mistake first, but Pat had the parts for at least three or four weeks after he recieved them. But like I said, it was well worth the wait and Pat Skorzetti is a very nice guy. I'd definitely recommend them. |

I've never been a huge fan of the carbon fiber look itself but that is a very good looking set of panels. I think it's the gloss that I like...much better than the matte finish those panels get from the factory.
Great work. Now, get your A/C fixed, and get that car of yours here to Missouri so we can check it out in person and give it a gook look. |

I like it a lot! Waiting for those parts is just like waiting for something from the Chrome shop. I kindof am interested in the lit up gearshift knob also. I have never seen one of those.

The shift knob is from the folks at FlameBall that have been producing light up knobs for years for the manual transmission crowd. They now have top button automatic knobs available in most designs that the regular flameballs are. Since I planned on cutting down my shifter tube I decided to add a little more bling. Last night my friends loved it, cracking on it pretty bad and calling it the pimp shifter. Of course they think its pretty funny I drive an automatic car too!! Seriously though, everyone really liked the look. Now the bad part about the flameball automatic knobs... they are very expensive for just a shift knob. I think it was about $100 --- So you can now grimace!! LOL |

Don, that looks great! You are giving me the itch to try it as well. How do you think the finish will hold up? Would they also do the driver door hand grip and panel for the power window's?

I had those same questions and I really think it will hold up pretty well. Pat told me that the clear coat they use is the same quality automotive grade clear that is used on the car's exterior and it has at least three and in many cases four coats depending on the surface prep. I did not do my door pulls but I have seen photos on his site of a C4 with the door pulls done as well as other interior components that I did not do. I have been in contact again with him yesterday and he is sending me a headlight switch that has been finished. When it gets here I'll send him mine that I remove. The finished pieces are definitely a little heavier than in stock trim and fell like they will hold up pretty good. Only time will tell. I feel pretty comfortable recommending this to other C4 owners since that Dulso finish on the factory pieces is so crappy. |

They can pretty much do anything you want. I started to get into that but I have enough with my graphics shop to keep me busy. With that said this stuff is really nice and has a great life span. I've wrapped some interior stuff that came out really nice but it doesn't adhere as well as the liquid graphics. Actually, every plastic piece in my 79 is wrapped in black vinyl since I changed the seats, door panels, carpet & console to black. |

Sorry, but hydrocarbon is a personal pet peeve when used to simulate real carbon fiber....they just look cheap especially since you did such other quality work.
They actually make REAL CARBON panels for your year car...there simply isn't a valid comparison....I dont know why anyone would settle for a picture instead of the real thing when they are only slightly more expensive :-( |
