I might have your answer..
Currently on my Car are a set of frame brace to help give the C4 a solid frame feel like the C5. These will bolt in any post-86 (uses front X brace bolt points), no drilling required, although there might be an extra hole in the brace that would require one hole to be drilled but would be optional. These braces can be left on while removing exhaust ETC, it is not a cross brace of any type.. The Brace was designed by Gordon Killebrew.. These braces are NOT lower then my exhaust. they are similar to F-body Sub frame connectors (in mounting) and are not X-Braces So far I have driven 100 miles with the top on but the car is definitely more solid then it was prior. Need to drive with the top off to see how well it is in the picture below the car is dirty from rain.. you can see the head of one bolt here on the left and the rod (in black) running length of car.. few more of the one side.. it would work but you have to drill and use Nutserts for your 85. and would need to get a template for the holes from a later car so they are in the correct spots |

So the only difference between 85 and 86+is a few extra holes drilled? I can do that. When is v2v going to publish these? or are they already on the market? |

Nope I don't have those. vette2vette might V2V wants to be sure they work as they should. I was told they will be at Bloomington showing them. but most questions for when avail etc, should be sent to them. My job is to provide feedback to them and the community on how they work So far as said, with roof on I felt a difference but weather here is not cooperating for top off driving |

Hmmm...
It's not the bottom of a C4 that needs the help. I had a much beefier brace on my car when I first bought it, it was a box section and welded to the front and rear subframe (see below). It sill shimmied and shook with the top off. Nothing short of a 6-pt is going to really fix this, and obviously that's not going to happen on a street car. You're better off with one of these braces that goes in place of the roof IMO. I think RD makes them? Attach file: Motor Swap 009.jpg (0.00 KB) |

That's what I was thinking when I first saw it. C4 frame flexes or twists in the middle and it's mainly a lateral issue. A solid rod connected at the ends with heim joints is still going to allow the frame to twist. Iteresting design though. |

Why do you need the adjustable ends on a frame brace? Shouldn't it be a fixed end?
Just curious. Seems like an unecessary expense. |

Jason will be installing this on my 91 coupe at Bloomington Gold. I will take pics and submit an article to Corvette Enthusiast too.
I will be there from Friday noon till about noon Sunday if anyone is in the area. I have no financial interest in this other than a price break on the install. |

Gordon said he offered this solution to the C4 engineers as a fix to the C4's chassis problems during the C4s run at the plant. He said they turned him down due to the extra costs (if my memory serves me correctly).

I talked to Jason about the pricing yesterday. There is a lot of machining costs involved in these, plus they are a brand new product. If you noticed the heim rod ends on there, those are at least $25 a piece and there are four of them. So it adds up quick! I figure if these become popular, the price will come down considerably.

oh,
I guess I did not update here.. According to Gordon, you may need to tweak it a bit, I have adjusted it twice and each time it has gotten better, I think I need to tweak the driver side a bit more now, but I need to drive it a bit more to be sure. otherwise they do work, there is one set of tracks I could crossover at more the 15mph, I can take them at 30 with no issues with NO other changes to the car. so far I am impressed and happy I have them |

I installed these on my 91 coupe at home and tightened them down pretty tight.
I can only say that it feels like I am driving a new car right off the showroom floor instead of something with 111,000 miles on it. And that is with the targa top off. The double set of railroad tracks that I cross to and from work each day are done at the 30mph speed limit instead of 10mph. No rattles! I can drive my favorite twisty road faster than I ever did. In fact I cannot drive as fast as the car will let me due to my fear of hitting a farm wagon coming out the other end of a tight curve. Once again - with the targa off. The cost of this product to improve your ride and handling is much less than selling your C4 and buying a C5. The tubes REALLY tightened this old FX3, A4 stocker with performance axle up!!!!! |

Pics:
I just jacked up my 91 in order to drain the coolant so I could do my intake upgrade. I used the normal jacking point for my floor jack with no problems. I also measured at time of install and the rods were the same distance from the garage floor at their lowest point as the lowest point of my stock exhaust. These REALLY make the car a pleasure to drive with the top off. Tight, tight, tight! |
