Well, just a quick note to everyone to announce that after a drive of over 1,000 miles, I have made it home w/my C4...Without typing a book right now, below is a brief summary of my impressions of my car..........

PROS:
Acceleration/Throttle Response: EXCELLENT

Body/Paint: Awesome Shape (esp for it's age)

Interior: Also Awesome Shape (ice-cold air!)

Conv. Top: Great shape, although, of course, it likes to leak air, but no water got in during heavy rain.

CONS:
Cig. lighter doesn't work: Bummer on a long trip since I couldn't hook up my ipod, charge phone, etc...I've never seen this problem before, so I'm looking forward to finding out what's broken/how to fix it.

Cruise control doesn't work: Minor annoyance on long drive

Sound system: Someone who doesn't have a clue what they were doing has obviously messed w/this...Looking forward to doing it up right! Also, power-ant. doesn't work, which hinders radio-channel strength somewhat.

So, there's a brief overview as I start sorting these things out...Of course, comments/suggestions are always welcome! (I'll be posting some of these things separately, as I really get into them) Peace!

Congrats! The C4 is a great road car - we've taken a few long trips in ours and have really enjoyed it. Hopefully the things that are wrong will be easy to fix. Sounds like all the major stuff is in good shape. Enjoy!

Sounds good so far. Open the passenger door and you will see the fuse panel access door on the end of the dash. Maybe just a bad cig lighter fuse. About 90% of cruise problems are the switch on the brake pedal, but check vacuum to the servo first.

I may have missed it someplace, so post up some specs for this car....year, style, etc. Glad you had a nice trip in your 'new' car.

Good to see you got Vader home. Always something to work on but that's part of the fun. Lots of help here for big or little problems.

Glad you had a good trip. The first recommendation is to buy a FSM. It will help with a lot of questions.

Hey, Teebee....It's a '95 'Vert, all factory as far as I can tell, minus a K&N air filter setup.

+1

The vacuum check valve is on the passenger side of the intake manifold, toward the back, and looks like this:

They only cost a few bucks at any auto parts store. If it's faulty, it can also cause the HVAC system to not switch properly between the defrost and dash vents.

Thanks so much everyone for the continued GREAT tips....Will look into that servo as soon as I actually have some uninterruped time

For the antenna you have two options (as long as the motor is working).

First option: you can switch out the mast which I believe is around $20. The plastic gear strip is usually stripped.

Second option: replace the entire power antenna assembly. This will cost a bit more. I found them used from $75, or new starting around $140 (ebay).

Mine didn't want to pull the new mast in, so I replaced the entire unit. It is a simple job and was very happy to have it working proper.

You can also add a simple switch to keep the antenna from running up & down when you use the CD, ipod, etc.

Congrats Kyvadervette. I'm also in the Ville with a black '89. It's my first vette and I'm hooked. Mine's a real head turner with z06 wheels, 9.5 wide and 11 wide on the rear. I fixed my cruise by finding a vaccuum leak. Also fixed a lazy-eye headlight by replacing the bushings inside the motor. $6.00 fix and about 6 hours labor, lol.I'm sure we'll run into each other in the Ville someday.

Congratulations on making it home. I have done the fly and drive to Houston, Atlanta and Goldsboro, NC and driven Vettes home to W Michigan. Had a great ride each time with hardly any trouble. Great memories.
Wife and I went to your town a couple of years ago just to get out of Michigan during early April. Really enjoyed seeing Hank Jr in concert, the Louisville Slugger factory and the zoo. Did not like the riverboat casino on the Ohio River as we lost our azz there.
Enjoy your new ride!

Congrats on your Vette. I just bought my 84 (my first Vette) in August and absolutely love it. This site has been a huge help.

Thanks to "tjpreul" for your input on Antennas.

Congrats on what sounds like a pretty cool trip. You mentioned the cruise doesn't work. I just fixed mine literally mins. ago. Just like everyone says the first place to look is at the vacuum lines to it. Mine were shot, so I replace them, and the cruise works great now.
