Had a wreck today thanks to a local not-paying-attention dickhead.

About 2pm today, was on my way to the local mall to pay a bill, changed into the left lane, came up to a light, stopped behind a white Nissan Frontier, looked up in the rearview mirror and noticed a F150 coming at me very fast. I said "f*&%r's not gonna stop!" I braced myself, grabbed the wheel tight as I could and sunk down in the seat and held on. He knocked the shit out of me and shoved my car way up under the front of the Frontier in front of me. Thank God for leaf springs. The Frontier's leafsprings caught on the lip of my hood near the headlights and kept him from landing in my lap.
No one is hurt, the messican that hit me got a ticket, the cop said he hit me going at least 35 MPH. Everyone was insured, but what really pissed me off, the cop came up to me and apologized for the delay due to a 'language barrier' with the dude that hit me. WTF?!!! Everyone driving by was very nice except for one negro who hollered out "That's what you people get for being on those cell phones!" F**k that bastard, none of us were on our phone and we all had on our seatbelts. The one who hit me, his airbag went off mine didn't. I asked why, wrecker driver told me it was because my front end is sloped and there wasn't a solid impact! Makes you wonder, with a sloped nose vette, what good is a front airbag any way?
Gives you something to think about. Was kinda wierd, as I was looking in the mirror, it all kinda happened in slow motion, and seemed like forever before I hit the vehicle in front of me. Like I was in a time warp or something. And when I called the insurance, they pissed me off as well, so tomorrow or Monday, I will call the messican's insurance and see if I can get a rental. Wish me luck. Funny thing is, I actually thought to myself... "this gonna hurt!"

Anyway, here are some photos:

This one was taken before I got out of the car:

Amazing photos. What a damn shame. I know how hard you've worked on your car to get it running right! I wonder if the insurance co is gonna try to total it? If so, make sure you show them all of those receipts for comps.

Glad no one was hurt, but that still doesn't make you feel any better about the car

Keep us posted!

No one was hurt except I'm pissed as hell, so much for all that work
I kinda hope they don't total, the damage really (so far) isn't that bad considering. Looking at new hood, nosek back end and paint and possibly exhaust, that seems to be it

Sorry to hear your streak had not ended.
Hope you get it back in better shape than it was
before the hit. Weigh your painting options after you get
your settlement from the insurance. I wouldn't be
surprised if they said it was totalled. I'll keep
my eye on this thread for future updates. Good luck.

It's a 96 and the villan's nationwide insurance will be paying. We've already discussed the paint job. Only thing he 'legally' wont be able to paint is the doors and we can work things out on that. I want that black paint that looks blue from a different angle. Saw that on a vette one time and really liked it. Not the purply one, this was like black but a hint of midnight blue. Really nice and tasteful. The damage isn't really as bad as it looks. New hood, can fix the nose and rear end and maybe a new exhaust and the headlights can be fixed.

Well, you made that same call a few years back when my 96 LT1 was hit on the right front corner and you were correct. But I wonder if the Nissan sliding up the hood took the oomph out of the impact and spared the frame? If it's the front and rear fascia and a hood and headlight assemblies, it might just be repairable. The trouble is, busted stuff starts getting found once the obviously damaged parts are removed. I hope that's not the case here though, especially after all the work Vetteblondie has put into it recently...

You can log onto the Zr1 registry forum, a member named HADI made one out of carbon fiber for much much less. Hes a character but wont screw anyone over. Just another option.
Sucks about the car, having the sloped nose defintely took some pow out of the second impact.
Nice of you to help that truck onto the flatbed!

Here is the problem... once the hood has been wiped out, the minimum cost is about $4k. With the rear bumper damage and the exhaust, I would say you are touching $7k.

At that rate, if the front end is seriously hurt (radiator/headlights/bumper assembly), add in another $1500. You can already add another $1k for the front bumper repairs - fixing the poly and repaint.

I am concerned that if the damages get any worse you could be bouncing against the book value.

Personally, fix it. The damage should be light - the exhaust was caused by direct impact. The biggest concern would be frame. get the car on a lift and look for any damage in the fibreglass underneath the car. The frame is bonded to the tub, so if it was bent, there would be fractures in the fibreglass. Do this NOW. Before an adjuster gets to it and then see if they see it. They may not know enough to look for it.

I would expect more frame damage in the rear than in the front. Just due to the nature of the impact.

The car is worth fixing. If there was only cosmetics, I would not worry... but if the frame is bent... that's a bad thing that cannot be fixed. Figure $15k just to fix the frame. C4s have been getting totaled from day one due to frame damage.

I am not trying to depress you, just give you knowledge so as to be best informed. I don't want you to get screwed by an ignorant insurance adjuster.

Make sure the car is still "square" before you attempt to fight off them totalling it. Last thing you want is a car that acts funny or worse yet jumping to one side or the other when you get on/off the gas. Consult an expert shop.

I did edit.... it was way worse....

Needless to say between him and one drive by there was a lot of racial tension at the scene.
I had an accident of my own fault three years ago and needed a new front end and the light pole that jumped out in front of me also plowed through the entire right side of the car taking out the wheel and it's A-frame assembly as well as a few other things. That total for everything, hood, front cap, headlight assembly, wheel, tire, a-frame and all that mess, radiator work, etc. along with shop time and paint only came to just right at $7k.

Upon driving this to the body shop this time the new front rack assembly I'd just bought still felt solid and fine, no vibrations, pulling, etc. apparently it was just downward force on the hood and we looked it over and found nothing under there damaged whatsoever. Am concerned about frame work as that dude knocked the shit out of me. He hit the back end hard and didn't even bother with KY :shaking: Considering the hit the rear looks fine except around the license plate area, there are no visible cracks other than simply the paint. Surprising. The doors aren't jammed nor is the top and where the back cap meets the rest of the car, that seam even looked decent. I'm trying to hope for the best.

Hey Blondie.

Dang that is some of the worst news I've read in a LONG time. Especially after all that work. Completely unfair. But I believe everything happens for a reason. Hopefully there is some good that comes of this for you.

Really sorry to hear about it though. And really glad that you are alright. :angel9:

Ok, been to the body shop and the adjuster was there, we all looked over the car and here's how it falls:
New hood, new bumper, new headlight assemblies, new back bumper, replacement of all aftermarket things I've done that were affected, and exhaust from cat-back, and possibly painting entire car, and replacement support bar in back of car.
All depends on what $$ she can give me. My shop guy feels $5,000 is plenty for what he can get parts for (some he already has).
Here's hoping for the best.

Any idea what your insurance company estimates the replacement value of your car at? Surely, it has to be more than $5000...

Not sure what the adjuster will come up with, we're trying to get all we can, and get a few other things thrown in.
He primarily works on C4's and has some parts and can get others very inexpensively. The exhaust can probably be fixed but he told her that I needed a replacement so as not to affect engine performance, and a bunch of other stuff I didn't understand. Whenever she tried to ask him to repair a panel, he said I prefer to replace it, if I repair it, it will not look right. He's asking for all he can get out of her. Here's some pics for anyone wondering what's in there...

Well, I'm sure he knows how the game works. Personally, I'd take a used item in good condition over trying to repair one of the originals. And used body parts might keep the cost low enough to keep the car from being totaled.
