Good morning gang. It's cold here today temps in the single digits and is only suppose to rise into the low teens if that. We have a wind chill warning also. Tonight it is suppose to dip below zero.

Sorry for missing yesterday got a late start to work and for a change was pretty busy.

Let us get today going.

Word of the Day Wednesday, January 07, 2015

cogitation \koj-i-tey-shuh n\, noun:

1. concerted thought or reflection; meditation; contemplation: After hours of cogitation he came up with a new proposal.

2. the faculty of thinking: She was a serious student and had a great power of cogitation.

Origin:

1.Cogitation is derived from the Middle English word cogitaciun. The suffix -ion denotes action or conditions, as in opinion.

Today is NATIONAL BOBBLEHEAD DAY

National Bobblehead Day is celebrated annually on January 7. This day recognizes a day of celebration for all spring-connected head bobbing figurines.

Bobbleheads have been around for over 100 years and are found in different shapes and sizes. However, none are more popular than those that depict athletes, professional sports teams, mascots, cartoon characters, and celebrities..

On November 18, 2014, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum was announced. The museum will open in 2016 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and will house the world’s largest collection of bobbleheads, a hall of fame section for the best bobbleheads, as well as many exhibits related to the history and making of bobbleheads, and much more. For addition information on the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum visit www.bobbleheadhall.com.

Bobblehead Day History

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in December 2014 in accordance to the policies set forth to designate a National Observation Day.

NATIONAL TEMPURA DAY

A Japanese dish, made up of typically either seafood or vegetables that are battered and deep fried and enjoyed by millions of people across the nation, has its own special day each year on January 7th when we celebrate National Tempura Day.
◦Portuguese Jesuit missionaries introduced the recipe for tempura to Japan during the sixteenth century (around 1549). It is believed that Portuguese Jesuit Tokugawa Isyasu, founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan, loved tempura.
◦Since the Genroku era (September 1688 – March 1704) tempura was originally a very popular food that was eaten at street vendors called ‘yatai’.
◦Today, chefs all over the world include tempura dishes on their menus using a wide variety of different batters and ingredients including the nontraditional broccoli, zucchini and asparagus as well as dry fruits.
◦Some meats, usually chicken and cheeses, particularly mozzarella are known to be served tempura-style in some American restaurants.
◦For sushi lovers, a more recent variation of tempura sushi has the entire pieces of sushi being dipped in batter and tempura-fried.

Happy Tempura Day, Enjoy!

NATIONAL TEMPURA DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National Tempura Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

Good Morning CGs!

I was listening to the radio this morning and the DJ said "high today of zero. It's one degree right now"...I had to scratch my head for a minute with that one.

Back to work, not looking forward to that. I took some vacation time (I know holidays....blah blah) but I needed a couple days of rest. Now that I've gotten them...I need a couple more

We have a Polish party to go to this weekend, maybe that will put me in a better mood.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Morning all. It is -19º so far this morning and will probably drop some more. They are saying -39º wind chill. It sure didn't take the dog very long when he went outside. Think I'll go back to the warm bed and listen to the morning news before I go to coffee.

Janohara!

It's a bit warmer here than in ND - a balmy -8 with -31 wind chill. I would recommend long pants and a light sweater or windbreaker. And a chin-strap for your hat.

Enjoy your day, Gurus!

The UPS man was really nice to me yesterday. He brought me a new toy.

New lens for the camera that I can use for nature work. I also have some ideas for using it for new angles at the racetracks.

Area weather is showing a blistering 10 degrees with a nasty wind chill factor Tomorrow is to be even colder.

Anyways, here is the new toy:

OVERCAST AND COLD IN THE NATIONS THIS MORNING. TEMPERATURE IS DROPPING, WIND PICKING UP; LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER NAP DAY IN THE OFFING.

NOW THAT THE RECOIL BAN HAS EXPIRED I'D LIKE TO GO TO THE RIFLE RANGE RANGE AND REFINE THE ZERO ON A COUPLE WITH RECEIVER SIGHTS. WHEN I SIGHTED THEM IN MY VISION WAS SO BAD I COULD BARELY SEE THE AIMING POINT. BUT NOT TODAY, THE ICICLES MIGHT GET IN THE WAY.

STAY ALERT FOR FROZEN NOSE HAIR, GURUS!

I never figured that game out. If I want to take a nice walk in the woods and cuss a lot, I don't need to carry 70 pounds of clubs with me.

They always told me to "Just wait until you break 100 the first time." Hell, I can get to 100 on the front 9.

400 2.8 Canon is $11,000. I have a Canon 70 - 200 2.8 with a doubler.

This lens, which has been getting great reviews was $1069. Much more "affordable".

Froze cold here - will be 8 tonight they say. Woke up to flurries this morning. Whoever sent me those can kindly come retrieve them, please and thank you. I couldn't care if I ever saw another snowflake again in my life.
Can't seem to get ahead at the office today - no one is in, no one is returning emails, or they'll email me a change to something then I'll send proof back and need to start print and they won't reply with approval - ugh... day is dragging by.
Happy Wednesday everyone

Was up before 06:00 and out the door by 06:40. Had a plant run to Marathon, 50 miles north of Key West. Made a really good run back and forth. I was back by 11:00. I came home to find a palm frond had fallen by the driveway. This one was about 18 ft. long from tip to tip. Went to dispose of it and saw one of my pigs in my neighbors yard. Not good. They have a terrier and a pit keeping watch over their yard. Anything that passes the line (besides the people they know) is fair game. Sure enough the pigs snout was a bloody mess. I looked at the pit and it was lying peacefully. The terrier had blood stains all about his chest. The pig pushed through the fence, probably looking to root up some tasty treats. The dogs kicked her ass a little and posted outside keeping her lying low in the brush. I tried to move her but the terrier went on alert as soon as she moved. I called my neighbor who was at work and my wife called his wife. She teaches in a nearby school.I stayed with the pig to make sure the dogs stayed away till the neighbor got home. She got the dogs into the house. The pit couldn't walk so she hoisted him. I finally got Dottie on her feet. Took a few minutes to get her to head in the right direction. I guided her back home with a small palm frond tapping it on the opposite side I wanted her to go. She's lying out back nursing her wounds. I'm sure the bites to the snout don't feel all that good. Pigs are smart. I hope she learned a valuable lesson. The grass may be greener in the other fellows yard but that doesn't mean you can help yourself to it. Experience they say is the best teacher. Hope the neighbors dog isn't hurt to badly. She said it looked like he injured his lower right hind leg. Oh well, pets will be pets (pests)................

I was thinking about the word, insatiable, on my drive back home this morning. I was thinking about all the obsessions I had and have in the past and present. Thinking how I always seem to want something. It's a rare day that I am pleased with what I have. Sick really. I mean ...... WTF. How much stuff does someone need to be happy and content? Apparently I haven't figured that out.

Why do women give their male sons female names?
I just got a note from a coworker to call Charlotte. Charlotte ended up being a man. Coworker didn't give me this handy bit of information before I called. That could have been a very unpleasant situation right there.

And the point is ......... ? [jk]

The last paragraph on ageing sums it up pretty well for I am but an ant. There are many things I know or have come to know. Many of the points the shaman touched upon I have been exposed to in my lifetime and have learned many lessons. Lessons I soon forgot because I've been taken by consumption. It's an illness. I will now go to my yard, look at the sky and trees that surround me, listen to the birds that sing, smell the flowers that bloom, embrace the world that surrounds me for I have but one life and it has little to do with consumerism. Breathe in ...... breathe out.

And that's when we'd go tobogganing on Peters Hill in the Arnold Arboretum. So cold we couldn't feel our limbs. It doesn't get like that in Florida though. We just get a bit nippy.
