See, that's why they pay you the big bucks. If you rather me start a new thread on this next question, I will.

Vinnie over at the old forum seemed to have 1 macro on his keyboard, "Refer to your FSM" or something like that. I have purchased a Helms FSM but really don't understand it. I can make some things out, but others I cannot.

I know when it came to fixing my headlights on my old 88, I did a search and found a link to pictures with step by step instructions. I did the job in no time by having that to go by.

If we could have some tech tips that refer to some of these nice illustrations for various repairs, I know it would help a dumbass like me. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Although there are exceptions and I know the moderators here will take care of the exceptions, there is a general aura of respectfulness at this forum that just isn't found elsewhere. For the most part members are respectful of others, and once someone voices that they or another are offended, whoever offended them is very apologetic. Another reason I like it here. I hope the ladies of the forum can continue to post questions, comments, and jokes and get the same responses that they would get if they were men.

Problem is that I don't have much choice here in Croatia so I have to order from US. And if I order something that's not good then it really
gets pricey.

As for ducts, I have allready started to convert car for track use since I
really rarely use it on the street. I don't mind driving track car on the
street but vice versa isn't good for me.

Ok, here is some further info:

P1371: Ignition Coil - Cylinder 1 - Early Activation Fault

P1376: Ignition Coil - Cylinder 6 - Early Activation Fault

Seems abit irrelevant, although it could be something to do with the crank angle sensor.

What does it say if you attempt code retrieval via the LCD display? Connecting pins 4 and 12 should put you in diagnostic display mode, there is the DTCs in big numbers where the speedo normally is, and the module listed in little numbers where the coolant/oil/volts/fuel ecconomy normally is.

I will need both the big sized and the small sized numbers.

I never got that far, with OBDII I wasn't aware there was another way to get a code out. I've taken it to the shop but not heard anything. I am about to go see about it, will get back to y'all.
Thanks!

I have a pcmforless tune, and I just got it back because I sent it in for a retune as I changed heads/cam/intake/injectors. They are very good and very quick. I haven't fired it up yet with the retune but I was very happy before. On the order form just type ALL the mods you have done. Give him airflow numbers on the heads if you have them. Be as detailed as possible. Give all the cam info, cam card if you have it. Injector size, everything. He will tune it for you to use stock fuel pressure and initial timing. You can also ask him to set your converter lock/unlock for certain speeds or ask him to pick which is best for you. You can tell him specific fan on/off temps or let him choose for you. There are many other options as well. If you forget something on the order form you can always call and talk to him, he will pull up your order and make the changes over the phone. I've been told the pcmforless tune can be tweaked by adjusting the timing by turning the distributor or by adjusting fuel pressure. A good dyno tune is probably worth it but to get up and running I stayed with pcmforless. I had originally planned on a dyno tune after all my work but I was so happy with pcmforless before I decided to stay with them. I can always have a dyno tune done but I probably won't if everything is good with the pcmforless tune.

Most counties in PA (including mine) only require a "gas cap test" and a visual inspection. Some don't require any testing or visuals at all (such as Huntingdon County). I printed off the Classic and Antique Plates Fact Seet from the DOT website. It specifically says "Antique and Classic vehicles are not subject to emissions inspection." It doesn't specify anything at all about visual or gas cap testing or sniffer tests.

I don't have a storage compartment anymore, I assume there used to be a flap or something to get to it, but now it's just a piece of carpeted plywood that's screwed down to make a "floor" behind the seats. when I undid it to get to the speakers in the back, there wasn't anything back there but a few tools someone had left back there, random socket wrench and a screwdriver. No tire tool or jack. I checked one day just to see if I had a spare and I do have a full size spare back there, but nothing else. I keep my jumper cables in the hub of the spare though since I couldn't find anywhere else to keep them. Guess I don't have a jack or tire tool :sad7:

Great...now I'm going to look like a poon on the side of the road in my purple corvette using my cellphone to come pick my car up. :banghead]

I'm not sure about yours but I know mine ('89) has no storage compartment. Our convertibles are a different animal in the back. I have a tiny bit of room behind the seats, and a cargo area. The cargo area is 1/2 full of the top when the top is down. I have a 15lb nitrous bottle and an Infinity self-amplified sub which sits in the center of the cargo area towards the front as the back of the cargo area is where the top goes down. So, I have very limited cargo area and no storage compartment. There is a "compartment" under my carpet in the cargo area but it is full (from the factory) of anti-lock brake components.

As far guns go think SATA.
Small compressors are a pain the azz to use. They cycle too much creating water, from condesation.

Warning paint in a enclosed area can KILL YOU.
If the water heator is in there also there can be a FIRE!

You're best bet is to get a book on body and paint and do all the prep and have a pro spray the car.

The finish is in the cut and polish, not so much the spray job.

I've been a automotive paint and bodyman for 40 years and some of the best jobs Ive done were at home in my garage.

If you're going to paint your own car you better get it done before 2011.

After that EPA will make it impossible to buy automotive paint.
After 1/1/11 you'll have to be a certified painter with a $100,000 booth to buy auto paints.

If you think the law is unjust and many in the old car hooby do contactr the EPA before its too late.

What about MC? Are you all using stock PBR unit?

No. Not at all. This issue is a touchy point with me. I am willing to accept any question, and answer accordingly. But after seeing the lazy factor, that gets too much.

I need to update the Tech FAQ with this info, so we can direct it off to those who need initial realignment.

Those cars are nightmares.

The drivelines are frighteningly expensive to maintain. Everything costs $15k it seems. Belt service, exhaust, clutch... you name it.

and they are prone to electrical gremlins.

Then comes the very personal issue of appearance, and I prefer the look of the 308... but that's me.

If you decide to get a 512 of any kind, be sure it has a service history... otherwise, you could be staring another $15k +++ in deferred maintenance.

I HATE ice. With a passion.

Back in late Jan/Feb 1994, the Mid-Atlantic got hit with ice storms... about every 5-7 days like clockwork.

The 2nd such storm hit us about 2pm on a work day. I was working for Del state government at the time and they sent us home, about 3pm or so. Very quick reaction to a very nasty problem... but that 30 minutes wasn't fast enough!!!

As I walked out the front door of the building, the sidewalks were slick as oil on ice. Horrible. As I penguin walked out the door, I lost my balance. I didn't fall, but I yanked my left arm behind me quick enough to rebalance, but not before I strained my chest!!!! That sucker HURT for the next 2 weeks, and would come back every so often over the next 3-5 years!!!!!

On the drive home, we were doing no more than 20~25mph... until one moron decided that he needed to do 50... and when he hit is brakes, nothing at all happened. Some how, he pointed the car into the median strip and got it stopped without hitting anyone.

It was a 3 mile drive.... the longest, most stressful 3 miles in my life. I was driving a Prelude Si at the time, with a 5spd, and I was starting off in 2nd, because in 1st, the car simply slid off the crown in the road.

So yes, I hate ice. I can drive it, sure, but I still hate it.

We've got 4th! Can someone update the Vette Top 100 window to reflect that? Still says 8th as of 12/30/07.

Keep clicking folks!

My money is in a 401k. I was going to be clever and move a bunch of it into guaranteed intrest funds. Then I found out my orders wouldn't be carried out until the end of TODAY. I'm strapped in and going for the ride. It's a lot like riding that Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point, as I did this summer. Shot up to the top, 125 mph, 400 feet in the air. At the top, you almost come to a stop making the bend to shoot almost straight down. So there I was, 400 feet in the air, if I could have opted to get out, I would have, but I was strapped in, and down I went. :shaking:

The good news is I have at least 10 years until I retire, probably longer. (If you want to call that good news. )

Ok, the good news is I have my health, and a C4, and new wheels to put on it. Life is good.

Crude oil down over 3.00 per .... Gold down over $10.00 The Dow down over 400 points.

And yes, mortgage money is cheaper now....

This is a deflationary environment, commodities are falling (gold, copper, oil etc).

Fun day in East Tennessee. Woke up to freezing rain. The local news channel had cameras going. Got to watch several people crash their cars on bridges. Also got to see them hitting each other, then falling on their butts while getting out of the car. Real entertaining stuff.

Ventured out to work. Roads were ok for my short 2 mile jaunt. Sidewalk was slippery as can be coming in the door. Nope, I didn't fall so you don't get to laugh at me.

Only one at the office and support calls have been coming in already. Got to run.

Keith

Well finally good news for the little guy. This should put an end to speculation on crude oil, at least I hope so.

At 8:15 the Fed just dropped fed funds .75 basis points....they meet on Jan. 30th. They couldn't wait another 8 days?

No, they couldn't. Panic is everywhere. They are trying to avoid a huge drop. Problem is, Bernanke is reationary, Greenspan was proactive. Reactionary policy leads to lots of bad stuff.

On top of that, it's cold and snowy, and my lug nuts aren't here so I can put my new wheels on.

But it's gonna be a good day "tater".

Spongy brake peda syndrome, had it too. It was air in both the lines and the MC which was bled separately. Give it a shot with the speedbleeders, makes it painless. Bled the MC on the car same way you would brakes. Have someone give it a pump or two and crack the line open. Right before the fluid stops coming out tighten it back up and repeat. Not a scientific approach but worked for me..

I live a Mile from Dan... If I am around I wouldn't mind spectating. I've done this a few times but I don't feel confident enough that I would want to be the only one wrenching.

Dan Knows a ton; you should take him up on his offer...

Is it solid roller or hydraulic roller cam?

Dan G.

1990 hydraulic roller. LS7 Lifters and Comp Cams Pro Mag 1.6.....

Thanks, I think I'll take him up. I don't want to lose a motor over something stupid.

Bleeding should be first on your list. Use a good synthetic (Valvoline).
Purchase a set of "Speed Bleeders" to make the proceedure a snap.
If the above doesn't work, your next step might be new pads. Hawk HPS pads have been used with great results.

Inspect your rotors, make sure they are in good shape.

If your pedal goes to the floor after the bleed, you might need a new or rebuilt master cylinder.

Good luck.
