Eclipse and Nak are some of the more plain looking head units.
The ones I like though are the older Alpine head units from the 96-00 years. They are solid built units from Japan, not the crappy stuff they sell now.

Another shinning example of communiztic attitudes running rampant over there. Guy tries to help fellow vette lovers by informing them of a sall and gets the thread closed, kinda like some folks minds....or lack there of on that other site!!!!!

I remember you telling me about that. If you ran Cobras, then you were into clay oval racing. I have a Custom Works.
A friend of mine still drives professionally for Custom Works. Tony Stewart bought CW a few years ago. At some road course tracks, Sebring for example, are SO bumpy that a conventionally tight setup will result in broken cars.

I'm gonna install an Eclipse AVN2210P:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MRHf1Kxl ... em/Main.aspx?i=099AVN2210 It's a little fugly, but the interface is fairly simple, and the detachable GPS appealed to me, since I store my car for half the year (with a car kit you can use it in another vehicle). I got it for $399 over the holidays, figured I couldn't go too wrong.

Sounds like a lot of PITA fun! I put the money IN the motor, not on it, but I'll post a few pics. The SR is polished and looks like Chrome. The valve covers are polished and look like chrome. But it ain't much to see. I'm online seeing if I can find a 16MM bolt tomorrow. I was looking forward to taking it around the block with open headers...

It seems with every season, even within any one series, that the number of changes are ever increasing. You can't tell the players without a program! It's hard enough to keep up in Cup, I don't even try in the other two series.

ok, care to explain? IN order for your vote to count, you have to click "proceed to vote" when it comes up. I am sure(I would at least like to think) that the author of the site would have covered his bases for preventing cheaters.

The new ones have generally less bling than they used to.
Try Nakamichi, they have oem looking ones. Or a factory takeout. So many of them are double or 1.5 din and have mp3 compatibility.

I can't remember, did I ever tell you that I raced RC cars too? I did it in the early 90s though. I was sponsored by a smaller company called "Cobra". It was fun as hell, I have debated many times going back and doing it again, but it was expensive, and I wouldn't have the time.
But yeah, I am with you on the setups. It was amazing the changes each little difference in spring rates and so forth. And that was at 10th scale!

I agree. And even race cars are set-up in this direction much more than they used to be. Just stiff enough for the job at hand is perfect. Anymore, and you're going backwards.

One of the guys from the forum is coming over tomorrow. I expect to have everything cleaned up and ready to go.
One problem......the threaded nut and the fuel rail. One went in a little crooked. I can't get that dam nut to tighten. Goes in one thread or two and pops back out. I'm not going to screw with it, I'm just goning to pick up a 16MMX1.5 tap and clean up the first couple threads. They don't look damaged, but the nut screws into the old oil filter just fine. I ran out of patience tonight, so I'll look at it to0morrow. Maybe if I can get a 16MM bolt I can slot it and clean up the threads. It's the little crap that'll kill ya. That should solve the problem of getting the motor fired up, Next is the torque converter and I have to get parts of the exhaust custom fabbed, from the headers, to the X pipe, out of the X pipe and to the mufflers. Hopefully The Home Despot will have a 16MM bolt and I can do something with it!!! I'll keep you posted.

and it's always funny how the various classes use the same number... and how we as fans so identify with those numbers... I mean, #20 is Tony Stewart and that's that.
It made me think back a few years... When Dale Jarret was running the #88 Ford Credit car... That was a Ford of some sort. At the same exact time, there was a #88 Pontiac, with Good Wrench colours and markings, in ARCA. I always thought that was just too funny...

You can get the LT4 timing set with both gears and a water pump drive for about $250. I have never heard of a failure of this setup in a street application. When I do my new cam, this is what i will use. I prefer to stay with the stock water pump. Nothing wrong with that if that's your preference. But single roller sets will stretch more and sooner than a DR set-up, thus altering your cam timing. And if you're worried about the reliability of an electric water pump, my HD Meziere is still going strong at 32K miles and counting. And if they do ever fail, they won't puke coolant onto your opti as a mechanical pump will. This is but one of the many advantages of an EWP.

but I was thinking today... yea... it's true...
As many of you know, I used to race RC cars. Did it for nearly 20 years. I only retired after my brother Roy was diagnosed with brain cancer. My thinking took me way back to the summer of 1985. The dark ages of RC car racing. There were no electronic speed controllers... batteries were junk... but we had fun! The chassis' were many times better than the electronics that were available. At that time, Associated Electronics released their all new RC10 off road buggy. My local track was a dirt oval, rather small and narrow, and no banking to speak of. At the time, most of us were racing various Tamiya chassis'. I had a "Hotshot," which was a 4wd car. Heavy and complex as hell, it was still a well built car and very durable. Not fast, but fast enough, and it could carry almost all of its speed through the corner. Then came the new car... the RC10 was a total revolution. The suspension was so supple... so controlled. My memories have this thing floating along the track, with zero motor speed changes - the suspension was so perfect that the bumps were all being absorbed, the tires were accepting them and the chassis wasn't budging. It made me think about some preconceived notions about what makes a great handling car... skid pad #s, slalom numbers... track times... A lot depends on use, tho... will the surface be smooth or bumpy? The bigger question to me is "street or track?" If it's street, soft is king. Sure, it feels responsive and such, but the reality is that if the tires come disconnected mid-corner, your boned. Soft springs, adjustable shocks, stiffish bars. Discuss.

I agree... I don't dig the bling.
We have a cheapo Pioneer in the Jeep and it is very conservative looking. Here is the score with 2DIN heads: THEY SUCK! For the most part, they are large, pricy and lack basic features. I had a Pioneer a few years back that was 2DIN... I can't say I hated it, but I sure didn't like it much. I ultimately replaced it with an Alpine 7998. Sadly, that head isn't available anymore from Alpine, check ebay. It requires an amp, tho. eBay Search on Alpine 7998 It is one of the BEST head units I have ever had or listened to. Just amazing. when I bought mine 5 years ago, I paid about $750 for it. A shit load, eh? But worth every penny. The only problem? No HD radio... that's it. It will do just about everything else.

Will this work?
If the threads in the m/c are deep enough, and you've got the cast alum version, you should be able to thread this in with a copper sealing washer. http://store.summitracing.com/partdet ... 1851+115&autoview=sku Or try this if you want steel: http://store.summitracing.com/partdet ... 2495+115&autoview=sku With a AN to NPT fitting on the end of that: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsear ... 672&Ntk=KeywordSearch If you have the steel master cylinder, I don't know what to do. These metric adapters won't seal up to it, only a bubbleflare type fitting would.

If you get really hard up for an adaptor, next week, I can check a shop here, Earls Performance Hoses... it's actually one of their last company stores. They have a ton of parts there...
I would do it tomorrow, but I am feeling just too damned crappy to consider that...

That's probably 200 liters per day, which is probably not enough for a family of four, but its in the ballpark.
I can't believe they're drinking the water coming out of there, won't it have impurities in it or organic growth? Or is it as good as distillation? Your air conditioner makes water too, but you definitely don't want to drink it.

Check out the pics in the C3 section, the transmission is not installed in a C4 but in a C3 and as such it all needs to be custom. Yes, I'd like to do it in AN flares because I have the flare tools to do those and then I will have every last fluid fitting in AN.

No, it was advertised as new. I contacted him, said I didn't care but he should change his ad in case anybody else does.
He said he then looked into it and it is infact new. And I think he may be right. I'll check it closer when I get a chance. The serial number is something like 50,000, and it was made in 94, so I'm not sure. It looks brand spankin new.

The only place I could find M12x1.0 adapters is summit, look for "metric adapters" or "guage fittings"
I think they were packaged by autometer. Also check mcmaster.com. I was just using them to attach guages to the master cylinder to check brake bias. Why can't you reuse the fitting from the existing line? Are you trying to use a flex hose with AN threads or something?

Also, if you install a cam with more overlap that stock, it makes the EGR's function redundant. This is why the LT4 did not even require an EGR valve to meet emissions. It had just enough additional overlap, compared to the LT1, that it came from the factory with a block-off plate where the EGR would have been.

The EGR valve is controlled by the ECM, it only functions between a preset rpm, and will shut off when you put the boot into it anyway. Remove is pretty pointless if its working fine, cause youll gain nothing at all from it.
Removing the EGR valve WILL NOT set a DTC unless you unplug the EGR solenoid.

Nice car, nice setting so hell, just screw an EGR question anyway.... I should explain something here. When I first saw this post this morning, there was no text in his post. The picture in his avatar was emblazoned full size as the only content in his post. Then when I originally posted, my post showed no text either! When I checked in this evening though, it was as it now appears. That is that both his post and mine now show text content. I wasn't being a smart-ass and ignoring his concern. I just wondered why he had posted an EGR question in his subject line but nothing appeared in the post except a nice picture of his car. A pretty strange glitch. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that happen in a forum before.
