I'm taking the calipers off of my car and painting them with some duplicolor red paint. Any suggestions on prep? I had planned to just wire brush them, use some brake cleaner, then paint.

I used a lot of brake cleaner and a small wire brush to clean mine. I actually left them on the car, but made a small paint booth with a box. I was also replacing the lines with stainless, so I didn't care if the lines were painted. Before painting I taped everything that I didn't want to get painted. They turned out well. The only areas there are problems with are the tips of the fins if they are hit. But a q-tip with the paint on it covers it up with no problems.

I spent a lot of time sanding and prepping my front calipers before I installed them. The spray can turned out pretty much like crap. When I get around to the rears, I'm just degreasing them and brushing it on while still on the car.

Get the caliber paint kit at Advanced Auto. It is amazing! My total prep time was about 5 minutes per caliber with their kit and no adhesion problems. No problems at all in fact. I used the brush on paint with two coats per wheel.
Very easy job and you will have enough left over to do a second car if you want.

Make sure the stuff you're brushing on is thin enough to flow together and eliminate the brush strokes.
I've seen 2 or 3 paint jobs where you could see the brush marks. They really looked like crap.

I found an old picture of mine with the brushed on paint I mentioned earlier. It is as thin as well water, no brush marks. But then it is a bad picture, might not help.

I used a rattle can, and they turned out smooth. I had seen the ones with the brush strokes, so I stayed away from that. Plus I like rattle cans!!

I already bought the duplicolor caliper paint kit. I went with the brush on. I'm not so good with rattle cans. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something with the prep.

I used the Duplicolor kit 5 years ago (brush on)
Still holding up good.

Used the spray cleaner that came in the kit (brake cleaner) and a wire brush. Sprayed again after brushing, then painted them.

Do the rotor hats, and caliper brackets while you're at it.
IT'll look a lot better.

That is what I used. Take a dry scrub brush to the calibers first, then use the liquid cleaner in the kit. Expect to drip a lot of paint all over as it is very thin. You can put a second coat on 15 minutes after the first coat. Post up a picture when you get it done.
What color are you doing the calibers? And the rotor 'hats'?

Red for the calipers. I'll get the rotor hats later, but when I do them, I'll do them in black.

I painted mine years ago with red Rustoleum spray and it worked great and stood the test of time. A few years ago I upgraded the whole brake system with Grand Sport brakes up front, SS lines, and new rotors. I then painted the rear calipers and brackets gloss black to match the GS calipers. I'd like to have matching rear calipers that have the Corvette raised lettering on them like the fronts. Red was cool, but I got real tired of it on my car after a while and seems like everyone has red calipers now.

I didn't do mine, but wish I did when I had them off. The front doesn't look bad, but you can see what the rear looks like undone.

Here's what I did, still looking fresh 2 years later.
Go to a hobby or office supply store, buyt a pack of cheap brushs, different sizes. The brush in the kit sucks IMO. Grab a small plastic coffee can, pour some paint in and a little paint thinner. Stir it up. The thinner will make it easier to apply, cause the Duplicolor paint is thick, which causes the brush marks. It'll dry faster and then you can do a second coat. Between coats, do rotor hat and bracket.
I did calipers red, painted hat and brackets with Rustoleum flat black hi-temp BBQ spray. Gloss or flat is a personal preference call.

I just used Ecklers kit on mine. I was happy with how it turned out. About 42 bucks I think. Very thick paint with the kit. Used the cleaner they provided and wire brush.

I like how you painted the bracket black, and the caliper red, I think I'll do that.

I got them off, and I brushed them down, man what a job. My calipers were black. I used 2 1/2 cans of brake cleaner, 3 sizes of wire brush, and a scotch brite pad. Now they almost look too nice to paint... almost.

So, tomorrow when I'm fresh, I'll paint them up. I went and got an assorted brush kit from Sears Hardware.

Going to put braided lines on too.

Don't use brake clean on them after painting!!

It'll take the brake dust, and the PAINT right off.

Topcoat with clear engine enamel to prevent that.
