Yesterday was a long day, which bled into today.

Long story short, last night at 10:30 PM, I got a call from one of my night supervisors. He said an associate had passed out, fell off the piece of equipment he was using, and had poor vitals.

911 was called, first responders on site worked on him, and paramedics worked on him for 20 minutes. They had already taken him to the hospital by the time I got to the site which is 30 minutes from my house.

Moral was bad, the guys were scared for him, and there was no explanation. Seemed fine one minute, then all of a sudden while pulling pallets from the truck, he passed out, fell off the stow, and lay motionless.

He was breathing, had a weak pulse, but was not conscious or indicating coherency.

A bit after midnight, I spoke with the brother. He has passed.

The associate was only 19. The brother works for us as well, and he was by his side the whole time. Brother is 20.

I stayed until 3:00 AM. Got home around 3:30, exhausted, as my day before started at 5:00 AM.

I am going in late this morning cause I needed some rest, but it still doesn't seem real.

A 19 year old associate of mine had what seems to be a heart attack at work, and died at the hospital hours after.

He was healthy, young, energetic, no pre-existing conditions...just a normal fun-loving 19 year old.

Makes me sick revisiting the thoughts.

Several years ago a 15 year old young man died in our gym while playing basketball. I was called to assist with CPR until medics arrived. Found out later he had a severe heart murmur at birth that caused his death. Recently we had a football player die during summer 2 a day practice from a weak coronary artery, he was 17. Its tough when a life is cut short.

that sucks, dude... seriously.

I hope the autopsy offers some explanation. No matter what, the truth will help make sense of the nonsensical.

so sad...

Tommy - Sorry to hear about this. So sad.
I would bet they find he had some type of congenital heart disease or heart issue. From what I recall this is not uncommon in a small percentage of young people.
