Not quite the video I was hoping to post by now.

But pending the arrival of a new transmission, I hope to actually drive this car this weekend.

Here's a teaser:

"Completed" is a relative term. This motor just adds to the latest incarnation of the car. I've posted pics before; I'll have to dig them up later. But the car pretty much still looks the same as it did before I yanked the motor.

Ordered the new B&M TH400 this morning. Summit says ~5 bus. days to delivery. So might not be ready by next Weds.

The sound actually has a much deeper note in real life, still menacing, tho. I still haven't brought myself to open the electric cut-outs.

You should see her go after the tires. She'll attack anything that rolls. I told Virgil and Dawn she probably hates her name, "Ferris", so attacks anything that reminds her.

The car pretty much looks like this today.
Visibly, the only difference is that I have since stolen the Grant woodgrain steering wheel out of my brother's El Camino.

I forgot to mention I toasted my motor again 2 weeks ago. I think I spun a bearing.

(I had to dig this thread up to figure out how long ago was my last build.)

At any rate, the motor has been out three days now and I haven't yet thought of any new upgrades "while it's out" for the rebuild. Hopefully, I'll get away with just a teardown and re-assemble without too much machining or hard parts. I'm holding tight onto my wallet this time!

what he neglects to mention is that every time his engine lunches like this, my engine hoist takes a road trip!!

I sure hope it's a quick and cheap fix. Get out for a few hundred bucks.

Thanks for keeping the hoist handy!

I just got the report:
Two spun rod bearings. So no new hard parts. Just machining and re-assembly (well, a new oil pump). With the bearing material floating all around the motor, we decided it best to dis-assemble the heads and clean 'em out, so add a valve job to the bill.

I knew from jump it would be more than a few hundred bucks because it was a complete tear-down. But at $2250 it's still less than what I originally had feared (was expecting ~$3K).

Dang it, and my brother just told me my new rifle is finally on the way to the gun shop!

I hope this build holds up.

ETA in time for the car show?

I get the motor back either 9/14 or 9/21 (Virgil can only come up on Saturdays).

Car show is 10/1.

Should be good. I haven't much else to do except drop the motor back in.

Though I did spend a few bucks at summitracing.com today to help with the install... new radiator overflow tank, Taylor wires, Lokar dipstick, and a -20AN weld-in bung for my radiator so I can finally install my spiffy CSR Performance billet AN-fitted water neck.

It should hold up with the new dipstick and all.

(Was definitely a low oil-related failure.)
