I'm working with Greg from Blower Works, who, BTW is absolutely amazing. He knows these C4s inside out. He actually made a tester, I have to get a pic of it, that he has in his shop to test the chips. It's a 90-91 setup, just my luck.

Anyway, I have it on good authority he's a phenomenal tuner.

Anyway, he would like to see a fuel pressure gauge in the car. So I figure, I'll put in a trans temp gauge too.

I was thinking about one of those A piller mounts, I really don't like them, but can't think of a neater install. He's going to teach me the ropes of tuning as he does mine, and suggests that the FP guage is a requirement.

Comments, suggestions?

Can you run a FP gauge in the car? I thought for that you actually had to have a line coming off the schrader valve? At least that's how I test the FP in my car. Most guys say tape it to the windshield while driving to see it. Obviously that is not a permanent solution, but I don't know if you can do it otherwise. Is there some kind of gauge that has a remote sending unit (like two gauges) to safely run it into the car?

The electric sending unit goes on the valve.

I was going to install an A pillar gauge awhile back but never did it. A electronic gauge is a must so if the line did break, gas would not go everywhere.

The pillar gages work well and really don't stick out that bad when driving. It is nice to keep an eye on things.

Here is a picture of what it will look like. Also, the picture of the motor, the sending unit is right behind were the fuel lines are. Look for the module that has the red wires running to it.

Oh, almost forgot. What is Greg's contact information and how much does it cost for him to send you a tune? I'm thinking really hard about adding some 36 lb injectors and will need a good tune.

I doubt Greg would have the maps needed for your build since he specializes in blower cars.

Did you have a chance to call Xtreme? Or possibly find a reputable dyno tuning shop in your area?

Called an ECM bench. Used to test calibrations in house before playing with the car. Helpful to figure out why code does things when certain inputs hit thresholds. Thats how we discovered things like the MAX ve issues with $8D on injector pw.

My fuel pressure gauge is in my engine bay. The only reason I'd ever need to see it is if I suspected an injector or fuel pump fault. I set my fuel pressure to 50psi at baro. I expect a 1:1 rise with boost. You are N/A.. I'd set your fuel pressure to be about the same but you have a few other issues to combat.

1) Injector size
2) Max VE

$8D shows BPW in the datalog, not final injector PW. My code is patched to display actual final PW, so I'll dial my idle in to get the injectors to fire a reasonable PW so I can get away with higher fuel pressure (for better atomization). Plus, I can run a smaller injector which is really my main goal.

I also have code mods to my bin that runs open loop until 1400RPM, and I've altered my 02 swing points for open-tps closed loop operation so the corrections are closer to my desired AFR.

Your combo I imagine is harder to tune than mine..

It's about three feet by two feet, and has all kinds of knobs, displays, and dials. On the other side of the shop he has fuel pumps and all kinds of plumbing. I have to get pictures when I go back tomorrow. According to him he "invented" the PW hack and is pretty protective of his methods. I have to sign a non disclosure that I won't let anyone else read his chip.

Glad to hear he's a good tuner. He really seems to get it.

He's offered to give me lessons on tuning until I get it. He says having the gauge in the car will make it a lot easier. I will take him up on it, should be fun.

Which PW hack?

Any time you can get someone to show you how to do something is much better than just doing it for you. I've had a few conversations with him and he's a nice guy that knows his stuff.

The NDA thing doesn't really sit well with me but in the last few years a lot of 'tuners' have been ditching the DIY scene to make a profit, stabbing each other in the back, etc so I can't say I blame him.

Electric's the way to go but, some racecars use the mechanical gauge with a gauge isolator installed before routing to the cockpit (definately more expensive).

They make the full pillar for the fbody, but not corvette.

They look ok. I drilled and screwed mine for better appearance. I didn't like the stupid little push inserts that came with them.

what gauges are you putting there?

I'm thinking boost/vacuum as oppose to just boost, and a fuel pressure guage.

For what its worth I tried to get gauges that look as close to the stock gauges as possible - I painted the gauge bezels black too. Apologies for the poor photo! And this was the combination that Greg suggested - it is easy when tuning to instantly see boost and fuel pressure. The boost/vacuum is just 'T'-ed into intake vacuum piping (actually I have the 2-stage alky controller under the dash that is boost controlled, so T was easy there). The FP is via an electrical sending unit on the fuel rail.

Glen, it is not the same pod. It is exactly the same design, but the finish on mine is smooth / gloss black look and the glow shift pod looks like a matted surface.

I think the glow shift pod matches the interior and looks better!

By the way, $79 for the FP gauge is a steal!!
