Ok, got some paint on.... I know everyone has their opinions, but I LOVE THIS!!!!!!
Emblem isn't applied yet nor are the letters, the emblem is just sitting there but ZEOWEE!
He called this morning and said he was taping for me to come down there to make sure I'd be happy, he had the stripes taped when I got there, we discussed it, I made some changes and I'm VERY happy with the outcome!

Resized Image

And, about my crappy top that looked like something got spilled on it....
It's been that way for 6 years or so, had a buffer all this time, never touched it. Been sanding on the damn thing for a few days with 1000 grit and then finally today woth 2000. Took it up there, took my buffer, he had some stuff he put a dot or two here and there on it, and showed me how to use the buffer and off I went. This damn thing is amazing. I know you can't tell it from this pic, was getting dark outside. But, I can finally see through it, it's CLEAR! I'm so happy! It's shiny too! Just think, all this time and that's all it took to fix this top and I was thinking I'd need a new one. There's a couple of places on there that are there to stay including a white 'line'. It apparently had been scuffed deeply. It won't ever come out. But, for as bad as it was, VERY PLEASED!

The paint really looks great.

Depending on how the acrylic is scratched, it can be repaired with cyanoacrylate (active ingredient in 'super' glues). It will vanish - guaranteed.

Kinda like the comemerative edition (Z16?) Z06 paint scheme, very striking. Some grey C5Z06 rims would look tough on there.

The stripes as you've got em go well with the C4, almost as if it should've been a factory option.

In the beginning, the stripes were a set width in the middle and were more even at the nose. Also, the red pinstripe continued up the middle making that red as well. Didn't like that, I asked that the pinstripe be tapered off toward the center of the split, then asked that the gap in the center of the silver stripes be widened at the top and taper toward the nose in lieu of it being a set width in there. Also, closer to the nose, I asked that the end of the stripes be angled a little to follow the nose's contour. I'm very very happy and he freehanded all that - amazed me. I never really looked at the Z16???
Gonna go check one of those out in a bit.

Thank you all for your kind words and compliments. Although simple, this is a really big bold thing for me to do with a car. Never had anything like it before.

I got some sticky stripes from VetteSTripes.com but I have been hesitant to apply them yet.
Now I'd be embarrassed because your's are so bad ass!! I really like that look, and great color combo.

Those pictures look great. I love that stripe. I'd love something like that on mine if I ever had to have it repainted. If you see your guy, mind asking him what the ballpark paint only price was (if it's not too much trouble!).

No problem! Just gimme an idea of what you might need done so he will know what to estimate for you. He paints everything, doesn't use decals. He mixed my silver and the red is torch red he said.
Or, for that matter, you can email him.

I have some picked out that I found on TireRack for around $600. Whether or not I get them all depends on when I get paid for my recent freelance job and if that money doesn't have to go to something else for the car.

He sent me a 'shiny' pic this morning, apparently he buffed last night...
It's a tad blurry but still looks shiny!

I just can't believe how good this acrylic top looks. Had I known years ago what I know now, this thing never would've gotten that bad to begin with. Taped it off and painted the trim on that today, so now it's ready to go as well.
But, I will admit, taking a piece of sandpaper to that thing scared the daylights out of me!

And, I got the grand total on the repairs so far..... EEEEKKK!

WOW. looks like you made a 'Swwweeet' batch of lemonade out of that situation. Good call on the high rise hood and the stripes fit well. New wheels would finish it off nicely. What you did with the top really got my attention because mine is scuffed and has what looks like water spots etched into the finish and everyone knows the cost of replacement. I am going to give this a try since your happy with the results.

Blade_1 about that cyanoacrylate, where can I get some and how is it used? Thanks

I found a couple of posts 'over there' that I followed by, here's the links:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=2020059
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=2117310

I didn't do the clearcoat yet though. I just used some of what the body shop owner used for all his stuff plus my own buffer. It turned out super nice. it's not perfect, but mine was pretty far gone. Looked like something got poured on it and never came off. Turns out I hear, the all do that. It's good enough for me to keep me from buying a replacement. I will see how the buffing holds up in weather, etc., before I think about clearing it. If it holds up fine, I'll leave it alone, if not, I'll clear. BTW, I haven't used the Meguiar's yet either. Might though.

Most of the 'super' glues have it as the bonding agent.

Apply it to the blemish. Make sure the scratch is free of dirt or impurities - they'll form bubbles. You don't necessarily want to 'fill' the entire spot, unless it's small.

Once it comes into contact with the scratched or etched surface, it acts like a surfactant, and spreads out to the edges, depending on the area of the scratch. LET IT SPREAD OUT BY ITSELF - TRY TO NOT ACTUALLY TOUCH THE TIP TO THE TOP'S SURFACE - THIS IS HOW BUBBLES FORM.

It might over-run the edges also, but LEAVE IT to dry - DO NOT TOUCH WITH ANYTHING. If a bubble forms, carefully pop it with a pin (have the pin there when you do it).

It will form a powdery residue around the edges. Leave it for a day. Then put some water and sandpaper to it - maybe 2000, then rubbing compound, then polishing compound, then wax.

Do it right, and you won't see it again. Promise.

Love it, love it, LOVE it! MEAN!
Reminds me of the smokinvette, com guy's c6....but yours has a body style I love!

I have an idea...While doing body work I personally would have had them cover over the center brake light....always thought it ruined the rear bumper...not as much as that horrible 86 thing though. Too late

Next best thing I'd suggest is black out the brake light with nightshades...make it disappear and look cooler :-D

Personally, I'd like to black out not only that brake light but the tail lights as well. But, given the fact I was rear-ended, suppose I need a huge disco light or something back there? Some police car flashers maybe? HAHA!
