My car is mine, officially, I got the notice in the mail telling me that they're sending me MY title., so i'm just waiting for it to arrive. :thumbright: It was only 4 years ago, today, that I bought my car. Strange, but it seems like i've had my car longer than that for some reason. But it feels good to know that my bank account won't be automatically deducted any more. I hated that. Ack. No more car payments for a while. :tongue6: And no one better say I should start doing some mods to my car, or i'm going to have to hurt you. lol
..... I guess I might was well post a Then and Now photo, just for the hell of it. :D |

thanks. Yeah, I was getting really tired of making those payments, could be using that money for better things than paying off a car. One less bill to worry about. Now the money saved will be going to other bills. That's the trouble with money, everybody wants it.

I remember paying off the first car I bought with my own money was the happiest feeling in the world. Still feels good on the newer ones. Probably the only thing keeping me out of a C6 is I'm a miser and don't wanna make the payments!
Congrats! Matthew PS - leave it stock....once you start modding it the money train will never stop. |

And with all that money you're saving every month, you could finance a new car! Or furniture!

Now you have to have the discipline to bank the equivalent of your payment every month. You do that, and you'll be able to handle any financial challenge.
That's the smartest thing to do. |

So you guys don't just refinance your home for a better interest rate and dump the car payment in with your mortgage and forget about it?

That works if you have equity. Refinancing costs money up front too, so the payback could take awhile. And if you change the terms of your loan, you're just putting off your car payment for 30 years.

When you refinance and put your vette into your martgage, lets say your mortgage is $400,000 at 6%, you refinance at 4% and let say he payed $8,000 for the vette. Dropping your mortgage by 2% saves you $8,000 in interest, that gives you a free vette for that year and $8,000 every year to spend on mods or to put towards your mortgage or in your pocket. Your life is to short to worry about savings. In 30 years your house will be worth over 1 million maybe 2 million. Invest in your home not the stock market. This spring is the best time to refinance, interest rates will bottem out and it will be the time to set it for long term. The penalty is about $1200 to adjust it but worth it.

If you can get a lower rate on any type of debt it's almost always worth it.
But I think it's ridiculous that people will use their house as an ATM machine and refinance just so they can cash out and drain all the equity to buy cars and other depreciating assets. Especially if it involves increasing the term of the loan. Sounds like backwards financial planning. Then you're paying 90% interest on a home loan forever, but you're actually paying for a bunch of other debts that you consolodated into it. Better off just not financing a car in the first place, unless its at 0 percent! |

The only 0% financing is on new cars and they are so over priced only an idiot would buy new unless it is needed as a write off for a business.
The only way to get this economy rolling again is to lower interest rates and let people spend. |

Congrats on the payoff! I was lucky enough to pay off both vettes within a few months of each other.
One was paid off with a tax refund and the other with the profit off a land sale. Now if I could just pay off my truck!!!! My first loan I actually overpaid and was sent a refund check, that's always nice. As for financing a car through your house, I've thought about it. I have enough equity to but a Bentley, but why? I don't need a Bentley. I'd rather keep my house paid off as it is right now and not have to worry. I can understand the why worry about savings when you have to make a mortgage payment anyway, might as well live it up. But I'm lazy and if my house is paid off, I only have to worry about taxes and utilities. If I refinanced my house to buy another car, I'd have to work everyday again, I don't want to. I'm comfortable they way it is. I'd rather take the money that I was paying towards my car and put it away so I could buy my next car for cash and not have a payment. Once my truck is paid off and the wife's car, that'll be $1200 in my pocket each month that I didn't have, and that will be nice to have. |
