All of you are already GM owners, and may even have some newer GM cars and some degree of brand loyalty.
So my question is, would you still consider buying a new GM vehicle even after seeing your tax dollars pilfered by the government and used to prop up this failing corporation that has taken so many honest people down with it? Or might that anger you enough to vote with your wallet and go to Ford or maybe an import? Or do you not care... do you just go for whatever vehicle suits you best, no matter what the circumstances, even if it was built by child labor from parts stolen from the parking lot at St. Judes? |

Nope - last two cars were Nissans. I'd still buy another vette, but that doesn't count

That's a tough one.
I am not a GM fanboy. I only bought Hondas and Toyotas for the longest time, and was rewarded with many trouble free miles, whether the car was purchased new or had over 150,000 miles. The C4 is the only Chevrolet product of it's era (and the C6 of the current era) I would consider. Muscle cars would be a different story. I do like the Cadillac CTS-V. I would still consider one of those, despite the buyout and bankruptcy. I would probably wait a few months though. But that is a bunch of money I don't have. Even if that was the only car I was after, I would be inclined to look at the competition more closely after what has happened. Lexus and Infinity make a nice product. All of the American made vehicles I've purchased have been Fords. It was not a conscious decision to buy the brand. My '93 Probe GT was unreliable and expensive. We had tranny troubles with an '02 Exploder. I had a '95 Ranger that treated me well. I am hoping like mad that the Lincoln LS I just bought is not a POS. I have intentionally avoided GM due to crap interiors. I spend 99% of my time with my vehicle on the inside of it. Ford has more comfortable and better crafted interiors, IMO. But the Cadillac interior is nicely done, so I could see myself owning one if it becomes affordable to me. On the other hand, if I really sat around thinking about how top executives screw us, it might become hard to buy anything. |

I need a tow/winter vehicle in the upcoming future.
I'm waiting to see how this all falls out. With some, a lot actually, of the dealers getting screwed, you can get some real bargains. You can get a decked out Silverado for what a worktruck used to go for. I thought about getting a Ford. I really like the looks of the '08 pickups. the '09's not so much. Diesels are actually becoming appealing again. Have you seen the price of diesel compare to gas lately. |

I voted No, since after being free of car payments for a while, I'm liking that a lot. About the only two GM cars I'd probably consider would be a Corvette and a G8, but if I squirreled away enough cash to buy a new one of either of those, I probably wouldn't pull the trigger anyway.
Now you have to get a Hummer from China: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/0 ... usiness/main5056189.shtml |

Wow, that is a tough one. I have always been a big fan of GM cars. I have owned vehicles from all the major manufacturers and one VW Jetta and a Datsun 280Z (fun car). Buy new? My last car bought new was a 2007 Malibu for my wife, nice car. I really like the new Camaro and the current Malibu looks better but I do not like how this whole bankruptcy went down so for now I would not buy GM. As much as I hate to say it only Ford has my respect for hanging tough. Get the government out and I will buy again. I was watching FoxNews earlier and they unveiled the new line of GM cars that will be offered, I was not interested in anything but the Camaro. I also noticed the Corvette was nowhere to be seen, if they discontinue the Corvette I will never buy a new car from them again.

Nope. Both on principle, and pragmatism.
I'm very unhappy about active government participation in industry. Socialism doesn't work, and now we have the Chinese laughing in our faces, (Geithner), and the Russians lecturing us on the perils of going socialist, (Pravda). Also, I think it's impossible for the government and the UAW to build anything but a polished turd. I'm glad I have a Toyota. |

I MET A MAN AT THE MIDWEST SUMMER NATIONALS. WE HAD THE CAMPER SET UP AND READY TO GO. HE CAME UP TO US AND ASKED HOW CLOSE HE COULD PARK HIS $750000.00 PREVOST MOTOR COACH NEXT TO US. WE DISSCUSSED THIS AND HE GOT IT PARKED.
THROUGH THE WEEKEND WE ALL PARTYED TOGEATHER AND TALKING. FOUND OUT HE OWNS A GM DEALERSHIP IN COLUMBIA MO. I ASKED HOW ALL THATS HAPPENING WAS AFFECTING HIS BUISNESS. HE SAID BUISNESS WAS DOWN 40%. I ASKED HIM WHY FORD DIDNT TAKE ANY GOVERMENT MONEY. HE SAID THAT THE CEO OF FORD GOT ALL HIS DEPARTMENT HEADS TOGEATHER 2 YRS AGO AND SAID BRING ALL THE TANGIABLE HOLDINGS WE HAVE AND BRING ME A LIST. HE TOOK THAT LIST AND GOT A LOAN ON IT. SO THATS WHY FORD ISNT TAKING ANY GOVERMENT MONEY. ID SAY THIS CEO HAS ACT TOGEATHER |

Nope....
My DD is a 2003 Silverado Z71 which is paid for... Guess that's the last Chevy I'll buy (excluding a c3 vette, when I have the $$) Wife's Landrover is paid for too, so hopefully we won't be looking at buying anything for a long time... When we do, probably Nissan, Toyota, or Ford. I'm really impressed with the way they've turned that company around, and stayed away from the Bailout Bonanza.... |

Absolutely 100% - I have total confidence in the new products they are producing. I'm in the dealership several times a week and have tried out almost all of the offerings. I still can't understand why people will respond negatively to a question like this if they have not been inside the new products and tried them out.
I'm not saying that you guys that say "no" have not given the cars a fair chance, but please remember that the new cars coming from GM are not like our Corvettes at all. They are a completely different product. I said this to CNN and the Wall Street Journal this weekend in two separate interviews; what Americans do well is just pass bad information around like a bad rumor. Until we actually get off our butts and go down and actually get in the car and drive it, the average person has no clue as to the level of quality of that car! Most people I know have not driven an American car in twenty years! Good god! I think GM has made tons of bad decisions in the past and they have taken themselves down the path, but not without the help of our pathetic culture and its "want it now" credit needing society. Right now the media is focused on the auto industry and the mistake the auto industry has made, but the auto industry is not the cause of the economic disaster our country is currently in. Their poor planning and bad decisions caused them to succumb to the whirlpool of failing dollar and bad loans and credit. I think this bankruptcy is a good thing though, and I hope it cleans the dead wood and allows the company to breathe, making room for better research and better designs in the future. You bet I'd buy another... I just bought one in March and will buy another Vette in a few years -- We just bought a 2008 Malibu LTZ (top trim) in white with two-tone leather and all the bells & whistles. My wife a loyal Hondist, wanted an Accord or Civic. I gave her the opportunity to buy whatever she wanted; only that she had to check out the Malibu first. We never made it the Honda Dealer. She loved it right away and still does three months later. Lets see how it does in the long run. Cheers |

I should clarify, I'm asking people to answer based on principal, not based on their opinion of GM quality control.
But obviously its impossible to completely separate the two, and some have the opinion that GM is crap regardless, so that's why I left option #3 in there. |

Not sure about a GM Car, can't afford ANY car. But, have been made aware upon my mother's passing I am now the owner of $5,000 worth of useless GMAC bonds that are at less than half value. What to do now?
I'm hoping she had a 'survivor benefit' attached with them, that way they have to pay me the full value now. Ohterwise, I'm stuck with some useless mess. Thanks GM for that. |

To me the question is similar to would you marry a whore?Looks good on the outside but has a past that's not too appealing. Well I'd certainly be willing to take a test drive. By the way, I'd buy GM again because I like some of their products but not a fan of corporate shenanigans from most of the big corporations. Gypsies, tramps and thieves and those are the good ones.

No. I can't buy a new one from them now, it would be supporting the very policies that caused the mess GM is
in now. When/if GM is clear of ANY government control, i'm back in. Used cars, a whole 'nother story. Benny |

After all the press jessie jackson has been generating about the UAW running the GM and Chrysler show, I'm undecided to ever buy American again.
I'll bet that at some time the fed-govt will surtax import brands for a buy US incentive. The last six months has sickened me to a point where I just don't give a damn anymore. FBHO! |

I dunno, no one man's perspective can surprise me, but when this sort of thing gets widely embraced, it's frightening. All of this has been very unpopular with the people yet is still kosher enough to keep happening. People either have no integrity, or are too jaded to do anything about it. It's as if the entire country has joined a cult.
Imagine a president rubber stamping this type of thing 100 years ago... there would be revolution. |
