She keeps talking about how pretty the C-5s are whenever we pass one... I love my C-4, with that lovely L-98 to wrench on until the wee hours of the morn. Plus the thought of trying to figure out the LS engine is not something that I even want to think about.

Of course Millenium yellow with a 6 speed does strike a chord with me

That's such a bitchin' color. If you look closely, it has pearl in it.
And it costs double the exact GM yellow without the pearl at the paint supplier.

She wants the Magnetic red which is a tri-color. I thought about getting the C-4 painted that color.

Dumb question but what does FRC mean?

FRC is "Fixed Roof Coupe", think Z06 but available on others I think. Looks like a Vert with a hardtop.

IMO, looks better than the fastback on a C5.

Last month, I had a student on the racetrack that had just bought a 2002 Z06 with 34k miles on it for $19k.
The car was absolutely mint. Pissed me off tremendously.

I like the targa so if I do decide to look it will be a coupe I guess. I kind of like the looks of the FRC better though.

I think she is giving you a green light Jeff. You may not want to wait to long. I like that color also. I have never liked the C5's but find myself reevaluating them as they drive by. I don't think they have much trouble with those LS engines do they?

I was thinking the other day that C5's are more plentyful because of the great economic times we were enjoying before the other shoe dropped. C6's from 2006 thru 2009's will be harder to find since they didn't make as many.

Do whatever makes you happy. If you can swing it, you can pick up a nice c5 for the low teens...but you won't get much for your 90. If I changed I'd skip the c5 and go straight to the c6 (or a c2 restomod...lol). Just my $.02.

Used C6's are chump change these days. $25k all day long for 05 and 06 vintages. Less if they have miles.

Those are easy to work on believe it or not nothing really in the way;they are so reliable though youll probably never have to touch it they just dont seem to leak or break. Just stay away from the magnetic ride suspension (right term?) the shocks are STUPID expensive.

The Mag Red is a great color. I hate to say it, but I doubt you'll regret moving to the C5. The things I didn't like about the C5 before are not an issue anymore. I love the way it looks, the way it runs, the interior room the feel....They are reasonably priced now too.

looks like a greenwood... which means there are these two huge holes under the wing, with strut bars reaching to the frame, holding the wing in place. Means that the bodywork doesn't have to deal with the downforce.

Still looks like old white man bling to me. Otherwise, I love the look of the car. The colour is awesome, the brake ducts are a nice touch, too. Looks great.

I think that it is a good deal. Its a 97 6 speed with 23k and they are asking 23k. I can not do it right now though. The leased car is the deal breaker. Payoff is 17k and trade in is only 13k plus whatever small amount they offer for the 90. I'm not even going to go talk to them because I know I will walk away heart broken.

Around here $23K will get you a low mileage 2003 coupe, no problem at all. You might want to keep shopping, things might change. Mag Red with Light Oak interior is an absoltely beautiful combination.

Smart gal , but if you like wings, that's OK.

Like Andy and Andy said, a 2003 for $23 is more reasonable, and the 2002 Z I mentioned for $19.

The red one is way over priced, no offense to the owner, it looks very clean. Plus it's '97.
Low mile 97-99s here are going for $15.

And, don't fall in love with the first one you see. I'd look at at least 10 before buying one.
And, if you know of 2 or 3 in your price range, you have an advantage on negotiating price with the seller.

I have to go along with most everyone else here......you can find a great car for less money. I bought my '98 C5 locally about a year and a half ago, 50k miles, always garage kept (with a cover on it), well maintained, documented, local car in honestly "mint" condition. His asking price was $16,500, and I negotiated him down from there. Be patient.....they're out there. Do you ever come to "Vette Expo" in Sevierville in March? Always many, many good buys there. There is even an event in Morristown, TN this weekend that features a swap meet and car corral, I think.

http://www.corvette-guru.com/modules/ ... hp?topic_id=13114&forum=7

Not too far from the Triad area, if you want to check it out.

FWIW.....we love our C5. I also loved the C4, previous C3, etc.

It's called the "red mist." And it can blind you. Keep your eyes open and don't fall for something until you know the product well. The C5 is a totally different animal.

When I bought my 92, I didn't test 10 cars... there simply weren't that many 6spds in my area to test! I drove from Cherry Hill, NJ to Hopewell, VA in my search.

The first car I went to was in Hopewell, VA. For those not knowing VA, it is well south of Richmond, VA. Closer to NC, really. The car was just not right. The details were not there... the undercarrage was oily... the headlite buckets not washed... the power antenna broken... and the killer? The Odo was 3k miles off! The girl had a loan on it, and supposedly the bank was going to take like 4-6 weeks to release said title. VA banks are strange...

I found a good looker in Miami, but the distance and miles on the car were more than I wanted to deal with. After getting home from Hopewell, I called a guy in the Cherry Hill area and he had a no stories 92... That's the one I ended up buying. 39k miles, 6spd in the colours I wanted.

well... cheaper in many respects to modify. A lot more competition for the $$, so the prices are lower.

Car also responds well to said mods.

The C5 is cheaper to hot-rod.

Jason at Vette2vette told me once that it takes 3 guys a week to disassemble and catalog a C4. It takes 2 guys 2 days to do the same thing with a C5.

They learned a lot about packaging and production effeciency with the C5...

Also, the C5 has the LS1, which responds well to mods. There are more than 2 brands of coil over shocks... wheel options are nearly endless...

Well, I looked at 25 or so cars, everything around town, drove to Sacramento and looked at 6 in one day. Most of the ones I saw had problems or were over priced.
I scheduled another trip to the SF Bay Area to look at more.
It's a bitch to look at 5 cars in different cities in the same day but, I found my 92 in Vacaville (already had the Carfax), a guy bought it for his wife and she didn't drive it, 5k miles in 5 years, sitting in a heated garage undercover. In excellent condition, 60k miles but didn't look like it. He gave me a file with receipts from 25k miles, new $2,500 clutch & DM, new shocks, new antenna motor, hidden 6 disc CD changer, 2 tops and the painted one looked like it had never been on the car.

I have done an opti, alternator and fixed an oil leak but there's nothing really to work on in the car.

If I buy a C5, I'll do it again. I've seen some ratty C5s lately.
