You can find that story on CF in the C6 section too. It got locked when the shop owner finally came in and told his side.

I agree - there is no satisfactory explanation for that. Especially when there are enough reputable shop owners out there ...

This guy is way beyond ASSHOLE and negligent etc. etc. This is actually criminal, and if this Business Owner is not pursued and punished for his criminal negligence its a Freekin' shame.
He knew damn well that NOBODY should have been driving that car. PERIOD...
If I was the owner, I would not even try to negotiate with the shop owner. I don't care what a nice guy he is and what is reputation was. End of story, Close shop!
I would be in touch with a good attorney in the morning and have my Insurance company to come down and total the car. Then buy it back and try to salvage the HiPo stuff for resale or reuse.

Just no excuse for this. This is why Crucifixion or public leaching should still be legal. I'm sick of this kind of crap that goes on. Nobody gives a crap about anyone except themselves.

Good Attorney + aggravation fee = New Vette +mods .

That company will go away after the law is done with them. No excuse for that kind of treatment/behavior.

This one's a sticky in the C4 section over there. While it's not as dramatic at the one Vis linked to, it's pretty bad in its own way and that's because it happens much more frequently:

I really feel sorry for that girl. I cannot believe the owner would let an employee use a customers car. I'm not an attorney but I believe she should be able to get more than a payoff on her car. There is a heck of a liability issue here.

Whenever you have high performance work done most shops will put on some miles to make sure the upgrades are functioning properly.

The shop owner blew it. He should have covered for his employee, saying the car was on a test drive. Insurance would have covered things and his rep wouldn't be damaged.

He has no choice but to make things whole again.

First off, I feel this case is better tried in a court and not in a public forum. All this does is anger people.

Also, it creates an attitude of trial by press.

I agree that CAM screwed up. It isn't uncommon for hipo shops to take cars like that to a local track and dial them in, however, they should trailer them, not drive them.

As I read that, I don't see a criminal charge, neglect, yes, liability, yes, but nothing criminal.

I worked in a lot of shops when I was younger...Occasopnally (rarely) would one be taken to get lunch. Only once was someone allowed to take one home.
I bet the owner didnt give the guy permission to use it for an entire weekend??
Dam, he had his kid in it too, coulda killed her.

What puzzles me is why the airbags didnt go off or if they hadnt been removed before.

The shops insurance should cover the car and criminal charges pressed against the employee....NO way would I believe an owner says go ahead and take some cutomers supercharged car out and have fun.

I was that irresponsible young azzhole once when I was 19 (same story only much much worse ending) and wound up doing some time over it, boss's insurance bought her a new car.

Most guys in shops beat the crap outta cars that come in, know that for a fact. One reason why I refuse to take one in....THeres always someone that wants to get a "test drive" in.

^^ Whoa! TMI on the doing time thing. That is wild.

The Shop has liability insurance. All business's have insurance for this kind of thing.

The Vette owner just needs to litigate and the shop insurance will litigate for the shop owner and off it goes.

No, the Vette owner should not take "book" value but instead be looking for replacement value of the actual car. This will be a $50k + lawsuit.

Yeah I can't fathom why the shop owner wasn't kissing her butt to keep her from going it alone, now he's going to lose so much business that $50K car isn't going to seem like much.

Letting the guy take the car out was risky enough. Not cleaning up after the mess was worse. Let the insurance suck it up, and pay a higher premium! BFD, but now its a cluster****.
