Personally, not for me.

Saw this C3 last year, nice conversion, I'd guess more than $700.00 by the looks of the chrome plated hardware.

Corvette Central has a kit for $1300.00 plus change, I'd also like to think it's a top-of-the line unit.

I have toyed with the idea... I am sick of trying to get out when assholes can't park right. The C4 doors are soooo long, add in the aforementioned assholes and toss in sometimes insanely narrow parking spaces (LA is tight!) and lambo style doors start to make sence.

If I was to do, I would french in the door handles and go all the way with it.

hi guys
thanks for your replies guys!!
thanks for not flaming my idea.
i really like the idea with out a doubt.
especially the parking idea/problem!!
but what i really like is the cool factor look!!
they are different and unusal on most cars
thats what i like mostly,to stand out even more and get more attention, lol!!
but as if you would need more attnetion with a vette hey, especially being in Australia that is, the vettes get head turners where ever you go,cool!!
when i get them installed i will post up pics ok!!
thanks guys
see ya

Give us a treat. Post some pics of different steps of the install. This way if someone else is contemplating doing this they can see what is involved and help them make a decision.

I would LOVE to see that kinda info.

I have seen pics of a C3 being done... but not a C4.

I am pretty sure the C4 kit pushes the door up AND out. So it will clear the A-pillar.

Personally, it sounds like a neat solution to an ugly problem... door opening space. I wonder if it opens high enough?

Glen its not something id do on mine, but i know a fair few people that like it, and a few that have done it as well. My mate in Colorado has a kit there for his C5 he just hasnt got to put it on yet, he reckons the kit he has you can still open the doors normally if you want to.

I remember when the first C5 kits came out. The guy showing the install claimed no cutting involved.

"Step 1- cut this panel"

hmm, no cutting?

I have a buddy who sells and installs these kits. He gets $1800 to do the install including the kit.

WTF is the matter with everyone tonight ? $700.00 for Lambo doors that half ass open up like a real Lambo is a complete and total waste of money. It will look box stock unless of course you open the doors and how often do you do that while driving ?? It's your car do what you want but for $700.00 you could spray it ! Better to blow someones doors off than to have funny opening doors, jmho

They are the COOLEST thing since sliced bread!! (J/K)

I love em. If I could afford them, then I would put them on in a heartbeat. To the OP, theres a website that is a fake site where you pay for them but never receive them. I saw it on CF about a year ago. I would have got them from Corvettecentral myself. The thing is, if the shocks break/wear out, you can't buy them separatley can you? Possiblity your door won't open or stay open. Should keep the stock parts handy in the event it did happen.....Post pics....I think people think they are outdated because ricers use them now. I saw a honda here with them on. Looked gay on his car...but he also had yellow tint.

not like stupid stickers on front doors, spoiler kits and other crap.
so are you calling lambagheni(wrong spelling i know)cars ricer cars then are you??
im happy so thats all that matters, well worth the money spent i say!!
btw, i hate ricers and dont class my vette or what i do with it any thing to do with the ricer word thanks!!!

glen, seriously, those kits are cheap, stupid looking, and dangerous.

Lamborghini dosn't even use the vertical door anymore, why? Because too many people have flipped them and then became trapped in their car.

Ever try opening a scissor door while the car is on its roof?

I love when I see some random ricer with those things, and watch them wiggle in the breeze just destroying the hinges and the paint at the front of the door.

Not to mention the fact that its just plan old fuckin stupid looking

This thread has pretty much gone to hell.

It has nothing to do with BALLS, it has to do with respect for other people's taste. The OP didn't ask your opinion or JD's. He was simply excited about his purchase and ensuing mod. This is why forums like this tend to be problamatic and different personalities grate.

Frankly I have the balls to say anything I choose, but I often hold my tongue because I respect other people a bit more than that.

I doubt if I'd put Lambo doors on one of my cars, but some guys like em, and I have seen several that look cool, and a little exotic. Who gives a crap if you don't like em anyway.

I've seen quite a few poorly done lambo doors. The worst one was an escalade, the paint on the side of the truck behind both front doors was all scraped off down to the metal from the doors rubbing on the way down. Looked hideous. And you still had to sort of swing them down then push them shut normally. Why can't it be done in one motion?

Maybe because the owners aren't willing to pay to do it right? I can appreciate any mod if it's done well, but that still doesn't mean I want it on my car.

How do you figure it was the installation? If the body wasn't made to have lambo doors then how would it do it in one motion unless the doors were custom made to slide in place and line up with the body?

Well, it's custom, so it's their job to figure it out. But doing it right was to much effort, as with many aftermarket parts.

There is such a thing as compound hinges that can move the door in two different axes.

Here's an example, the door has to pop out beside the car before rotating up:

Resized Image

Resized Image

Maybe it uses a hydraulic to pull the door in after it's lowered past a certain point, I dunno. But it's not ghetto like the aftermarket kits are.

Kinda hard to sell a supercar with ghetto doors.

Now on the scissored lambos, you're right, the car is designed so the door drops down into place.

The Corvette kit hinges up but in order to clear the car it has to open the door partway, which makes it look like a giant insect when the doors are sticking up and slanted outwards at a wierd angle.

Taken into consideration, the people who usually buy them get the cheapest kit they can and that is why it looks cheap. To get a good kit and have it properly installed or a custom job done would be very expensive if we are going 85 dollars per hour(mechanic wages here)....Cheap kit + cheap installion = ugly doors.....if I did save up the $$ for the doors, then I could install them myself and have it look terrible or leave it stock....I will keep it stock unless I win the lottery and can afford to get them custom done. Lambos on a escalade, Hummer, or any suv for that matter is just blah!

Now that I thought about it, since the way the corvette doors are stock, getting lambos on it would scratch the paint off on the inside of it? It has little clearance...Hmm...I hope the OP gets his installed and pics.

hi guys
this lambo door kit iv got coming from scissor doors Canada
comes with a life time guarntee, no welding,no painting.
full life time warranty, fully adjustable in what ever angle you want the doors to sit and this kit iv got coming is made to suit a c4 vette, its not a universal shit that has to be welded on like some brand kits are!!
also yes there are spare parts avaialble such as gas shocks!!
and it can be fully reversble back to standard hinges no problem!!
i dont see what is wrong with having this kit,i like it and it looks cool and it is all quality design and materials used!!
cheers

I think you have to wait until you get the kit to decide that. But after all this debate, I'm interested in seeing what they look like!

Are you comparing Koenigsegg's "dihedral synchro-helix" actuation doors, to a friggin lambo/scissor kit?!

A geared rotational pivot operates simultaneously with a parallel arm, in an outward arc. Balanced by gas struts the doors lift easily to allow entry, their refined "flying punch" movement setting the stage.

That shit took like 5 years to figure out!

If there's a will, there's a way.

In this case there probably is no comparison. One is a setup engineered to pop the doors up with minimal effort and movement, and has good fit and finish, and the other is a lambo kit.

One thing to keep in mind is he's not in the states, around here Lambo doors are common as can be on everything from 300 Chryslers to Civics. I guess if your car needs nothing then yeah whatever buy the door kit but most of these old cars could use alot of other stuff first. I wonder what his carpet and seats look like ?? I would hate to try and show off Lambo doors and have ratty or stained carpet or cracked leather on the seats.
