K, just because you heard some tidbit of info from somebody else, or might have read it some place else does not make it right. I'm getting tired of idiots typing up some response only to sit there shaking my head and asking why.... why must you be some damn stupid and perpetuate your stupidity onto others.

I know this isn't tech related, but this is what irked me.

Quote:

stupid poster wrote:

They will run the GT1 class until June so they qualify for the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Sad part is the Corvette has qualified 3 times before even setting foot on the track for the 2009 season.

Cars placing 1 & 2 in ALMS in each class get an invite.
Cars placing 1 & 2 at Petit LeMans get an invite.
Cars placing 1 & 2 at previous 24 hours Lemans get an invite.

But I see it posted even in the technical aspects of Corvettes.

If you don't know the answer, please don't make yourself look like a fool. Just think before hitting the submit button.

I thought the definition of "Forum" was: A place where you can go be stupid.

I don't see that changing.

Doesn't make it any less annoying though.

Almost, It's a place you can go be stupid, and have other people swear to your stupidity...it's more of a group stupidity.

Just refining.

You know, thats one reason I keep my mouth(or fingers in this case) shut when dealing with subjects I know nothing about. If I know a "little" then I usually say, "It's been my experience" or "I read this information somewhere else".

I think somepeople feel that they can just get involved in a topic they know little about because they feel there would be no reprecussions(sp?) of their actions. Kinda like an "Internet Bad-azz" of knowledge.

I think its fantastic that the forum allows people to express their stupidity with pride, and also that it allows others to point it out to everyone else.

If stupid people weren't allowed to post, there would be no forums.

I've wasted quite a bit of money following false tech advice, so I'm careful what I say to others, and careful to disclaimer it if I'm not sure.

I agree. Completely. Arguments start when a question is asked and responded to in a juvinile fashion or with faulty information. Plenty of examples.

Personally I ask people what they think, then ask them to back it up. When their so called evidence is pointed out to be worthless as it relates to the original question, that's where it starts. People take umbrage when their vision of the world is demonstrated to be baseless and not supportable.

Personally, I call it an education. I'm on my balcberry or I'd link to a good example under
EFI at vettemods.com. Those guys are willing to discuss not argue.
Either way, that is no reason to argue.

And, no, I don't use it in the C4.

What makes it worse is that on some forums you will get banned for questioning rediculous claims like we see above if said offender is a forum sponsor.

What makes it worse is that people will argue to the death the points on said advertisment with little or no qualifications to make those arguments or the facts to back them up.

Now take that to the logical conclusion that some 20 something year old kid worked all year to save to do some mods and is told that unless he buys this pile of expensive parts, mods aren't worth doing. Now this is twenty bucks imagine if it were 2000.
Wonder why less kids are hot rodding?

Forums who stifle dissent against forum vendors, and the people who support it are just as big of a thief as the guy selling $20 air.

Well, perhaps not anymore, but it's not the airfoil I speak to specifically, it's any item that becomes "cool". You can't challenge the cool.

Using the tire example above. They make some pretty big claims.

1. Tires last longer
2. Run cooler
3. Smooths out Bumps
4. Improves braking
5. Improves handling
6. quiets tires
7. Improves ride quality by "muting bumps"

Pretty tall order from going from atmosphere which is 70% nitrogen to 100% nitrogen.

Let's be serious, do you actually believe those claims?

If someone came here and said "I got new tires, what should I put in them" and everyone said NITROGEN!! And cited the reasons as being:

1. Tires last longer
2. Run cooler
3. Smooths out Bumps
4. Improves braking
5. Improves handling
6. quiets tires
7. Improves ride quality by "muting bumps"

Would the responsible person say "perhaps you should ask for proof that all those grand claims are proven before giving Potamic Nitro $20?

Should Potamic Nitro have to prove those claims? Those are pretty stout claims.. or should we just hand them $20 because the cool kids do it.

As this thread was born, that is the problem with the internet, and it's worse when the forum owners are accomplices in the theft of people's money by stifling those people who ask Potamic Nitro to prove it.

That sounds totally REASONABLE to me....

It doesn't quiet the tires, it "quites" them.

"Dis week I got some nitro in ma' tires, and they's quite better now."

I think we're way past the point of no return on false advertising claims. It's 100% buyer beware now. Nobody is holding the advertisers to their word, and to try is an exercise in futility.

TV, internet and newspaper are chock-full of ads for pyramid schemes, loan refinance scams, gas savers, penis lengtheners, and psychic hotlines.

I also forgot to add that if Potomic Nitro had all over their website "THE BEST DAM AIR YOU CAN PUT IN YOUR TIRES" and "FAR SUPERIOR TO ANY AIR ANY WHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD" "NO BETTER TIRE FILLER IN THE UNIVERSE" then put up a bunch of charts and stuff to back their claim, made up a few catch phrases of dubious credibility, but actually prove nothing, I'd have even a bigger problem with them....just sayin'.

Even more reasons claims need to be backed up with fact, manufacturers and vendors should be questioned.

Cool, did it solve your problems with the clap too? Cause it claims to.

Since we have a disconnect, allow me to explain:

Plain old air: Free

Patomic Nitro: $20

Alleged benefits:

1. Tires last longer
2. Run cooler
3. Smooths out Bumps
4. Improves braking
5. Improves handling
6. quiets tires
7. Improves ride quality by "muting bumps"

Proven Benefits:

1.
2.
3.

ok, well nothing.

Internet folk lure benefits:

1. Tires last longer
2. Run cooler
3. Smooths out Bumps
4. Improves braking
5. Improves handling
6. quiets tires
7. Improves ride quality by "muting bumps"

Evidence:

1. I know a guy who put 1,000,0000 miles on his tires and he used Patomic's product.

2. STFU and show me your lap times.

3. You're leaving handling on the table and you can cut your track time by two whole minutes if you spend $20 with PN. I know guys who spent a lot of money on their cars and they put PN in their tires, and their times increased a whole lot.

4. My favorite...go run some lap times, dismount your tires, put on new tires, new shocks, align the car, fix the brakes, fill them with PN and tell me how your times improved. See, it's all because of PN. All on your dime. (yes ladies and gents, that's what passes for information on some forums)

Now, as the OP points out, if anyone says anything closely related to tires, they will be accosted both in public and via PM by people on said forum that if they do not hand PN $20 for what they can get anywhere else in the form of free air, they are idiots. That right there is the origin of internet forum idiocy.

Note through out this process no one has ever validated:

1. Tires last longer
2. Run cooler
3. Smooths out Bumps
4. Improves braking
5. Improves handling
6. quiets tires
7. Improves ride quality by "muting bumps"

And given good reason to spend $20 when there's something available that accomplishes the same thing and it's free.

I know I left out the parts where Joe Patomic comes out and posts pictures of flat tires at the track, and makes even more absurd undocumented claims about molecular stability of Nitrogen and such, and the crowd described above who backs it, after all it's true Nitrogen has molecules ya know, and it is technical, we said molecules. Just because there's a group of idiots, doesn't make them any less of an idiot. See how that works?

So when people sign up to said TireForums.com and ask advice, the entire conversation is framed all about:

1. Tires last longer
2. Run cooler
3. Smooths out Bumps
4. Improves braking
5. Improves handling
6. quiets tires
7. Improves ride quality by "muting bumps"

Now, no one said that he should USE PN, however, if you don't consider the above criteria as gospel, you're an idiot.

Which, as we have demonstrated is unproven and undocumented. IN FACT it had gotten so bad that the term "free air" is not even mentioned. It's no longer air pressure in a tire, it's PN in a tire. What PN pressure should I run?

So some kid who worked all year to save his pennies to do some mods to his new cool hot rod, will send $20 to PN as a result, and will have pissed it away. He could have better spent in in 1000 other places, but it doesn't matter, his tires are filled with PN and he has won the respect and adoration of the PNites.

In fact, he goes as far as to take his new shiny PN tires and put them atop bent rims and a rusted frame. Because we all know PN is magic and can cure all those other ills. Of course, now his track times are slow, and the car fell apart around those shiny PNs. But it's all OK....he can brag about his PN filled tires and that makes everything OK.

I think I made my point....

Anybody tried these? Does having a bigger penis give you more horsepower? or more drag?

(serious note) - I think I am wary of all opinions / comments / statements on the forums, which is why I often research a topic until I find concensus (and always try to spot and avoid 'group stupidity'). And so far this has proven fairly reliable. But.. I think my age (44) leads me to be more suspicious of false claims / opinions than someone in their 20's might be.

When I was younger I was educated that 'the written word reflects more on you than the spoken word, and the written word is more legally binding'. I think modern technology has relegated the written word (texts, forums, email) to having less value than the spoken word - how many forum posts would NEVER be said face to face?

Anyway - about that male enhancement...

Yes there are alot of internet idiots!

There is also the typical guy that is trying to make a point, but he fails to release that no one is listening to him for several reasons. Those guys waste hundreds of hours for nothing typically typing late at night, and in the end, they find out they where wrong to begin with, lol!

There is always good, and bad advice on the internet. It's up to the person too decide if the source is credible, or if it's hear say, or just bullshit!
