PELOSI....... "SNOPES" VALIDATES THE BELOW FACTS: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's home district includes San Francisco. Star-Kist Tuna's headquarters are in San Francisco, Pelosi's home district. Star-Kist is owned by Del Monte Foods and is a major contributor to Pelosi. Star-Kist is the major employer in American Samoa employing 75% of the Samoan work force. Paul Pelosi, Nancy's husband, owns $17 million dollars of Star-Kist stock. In January, 2007 when the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $7.25, Pelosi had American Samoa exempted from the increase. This makes Del Monte products less expensive than their competition's. Last week when the huge bailout bill was passed, Pelosi added an earmark to the final bill adding $33 million dollars for an 'economic development credit in American Samoa. Pelosi has called the Bush Administration "CORRUPT" ? ? |

It's comments like hers that do nothing for national peace. It only creates yet another form of obstructionism. This is where Lincoln was so special. He was willing to let bygones be bygones knowing that the health of the union was worth more than the political fodder of retribution. Until modern politicians - from either side - learn this and truly embrace this, we will continue to have wide chasms of division in our country. It takes a strong person to not react to having been slapped down, and apparently, Nancy isn't one of them. I was wishing for more... but, alas, expecting more of the same. As for the Bush administration... corrupt? Na... misguided? Incompetent, sure. Corrupt implies criminal acts. Short of suspect intel, I don't see a trail there. |

A few years ago there used to be regular Saturday protests about the war in Iraq. A small crowd would gather downtown across from the post Office and hold signs condemning the war and Bush. My friend's Mom, and her husband, were both ex-cops, and both now work in legal...he's a prosecuting attorney and she's a lawyer. They both started a very popular lawn sign here that said "Support Our Troops."
Anyway, my friend's Mom and her husband started to protest the protesters. They would stand across the street and hold signs supporting the troops and their missions and their well being and basically protesting the crowd on the other side. One Saturday, a man from the anti-war protesters crowd crossed the street and went face to face with my friend's Mom and TOLD her to drop the signs and leave. She refused stating she was well within her rights to protest there. He dropped his PEACE sign and pushed her and punched her in the face. Her husband, a very large man, detained him on the ground in a very painful manner...mind you he used to be a cop and is now a prosecuting attorney who actually ran for mayor here...and the man was arrested on assault charges. We later found out he was the OWNER of a small hippy shop downtown called the PEACE NOOK. Ironic, he was picketing for peace and anti-war yet he felt obligated to punch a 55 year old woman in the face for exorcising the same right to protest. I don't know what happened to him but his shop stayed open and they were a HUGE supporter of Obama. |

People need to quit taking any of this stuff personal.
Obama is your president and mine, but like all the ones previous to him, he doesn't give a shit about you unless you've got something for him, (other than loyalty, which is a waste of time.) The AIG mess is comical. Governmnent pumps billions of dollars into the company with little direction, and then makes a big stink after the fact on how they spend it. Maybe they should've covered their bases BEFORE writing blank checks to a company with a bad track record? That's like me giving $50 to a crackwhore and then complaining afterwards that she didn't buy granola bars. |

It is possible to protest against a war without protesting against the troops fighting it.
I doubt you'll find many of those peace protesters that wish any ill will on the troops. Some of them even have sons/daughters/husbands in the service. |
