Just firing up the car sets MY mood! I got to drive mine today for the first time in a few weeks. Waa-Hoo! As low-key of a guy as I am, I feel obliged to hit triple digits once the car is warmed up, if it has been awhile since my last ride in the Vette. Guess I'm just a dumb kid at heart.

Cars home. The mechanic doesn't work on saturdays and it's been there for two weeks and hes way behind. First where is the vacum or passage maybe? to where the heat comes thru that would not allow it to get hot if it was blocked/not opening?

Second, spare tire carrier. The main bolt on the back and the tire. Once thats removed, how do I get the back of it under the car off? Can't see anything and I have to wait until the exaust cools off before I am going to poke under there...Wanna take it off and paint the suspension parts and clean it up...

Strange, I've been messing with a window problem and was draining my battery occasionaly. At one point when the battery was way low the blower motor would run, ASR light came on, and a "tivking" comming from the dash boadr?? etc. Someone told me it was because the batt. was low and the relays were clicking??

Does anybody have a good source for airbag sensors? My drivers side needs a new sensor but I was thinking of replacing both sensors while I'm at it. I already removed them, sanded them and the frame, cleaned and applied dielectric grease. I reset the code but it keeps coming back on. It's throwing a code 16, Did it a second time just to make sure I did a good job the first time. I reset the code using the Mid America reset tool. It worked a lot better than the paperclip method. The code goes away but comes back soon thereafter. Same result. So now I want to replace the sensors. Can I get a later model year sensor to work? Is there any difference? Or was it that GM just added the dielectric grease after the 90 model year?

Will only be the cap and rotor at worst if its related to the distributor at all mate, pointless to waste money and through away a good part when you only need a cap and rotor.

Telling the difference is theoretically very simple. There is no such animal as a 94.5, its either a 94 or its a 95. If its a 94, its got the old distributor design, provided it hasnt been upgraded (and why youd bother i dont know)

If you really are going to replace it, use an MSD hevery duty unit.

Have an 87 Van with 218k and a 160 stat, Z has 145k and a 160 stat, both pass Ca "state test only" inspections. Running the car in P at 1500 for a minute or so will get the cats good and hot although it may not be necessary. Keep it in good tune and youre set.

Here is the thread on CF: I did not copy the pictures but you should get the gist of it:

Default Front speaker challange
I have a 94 vette with an aftermarket Pioneer FHP4400 radio. On a 94, the front speakers are located on the floor on the side of the sill beam. The PO replaced the stock speakers with a 4" round speaker, but they still sound very poor. The factory location of the speakers seems very lame to me (on the floor pointed at your feet) and I would like to improve the sound as much as I can by just replacing the existing speaker with a better speaker, or by putting the speakers in another location (not in the doors). I see the speaker mounting plate is cut to house a single 4x6 speaker or a 4" round and a 2" round. The mounting depth is less than 2". I'm not a fan of small speakers but a 5x7 speaker will not fit (too deep for the available space). So, with all that being said, is there some amazing speaker that will fit in there to give me better sound, or should I consider relocating the speakers to another spot where they will function function better--and where would that spot be?

-----------------------------
There is no magic speaker that can do what you'd like. The factory locations are indeed horrible, and IMO not worth the effort to replace at all.

The best answer is to remove the forward segment of each door panel and customize the back side for midranges while adding tweeters in the dash. Like this :
------------------------------
Either I don't know the C4 interior like I should, or you did one hell of a job hiding the mids... Where are they exactly?

Thanks. See the curved light gray panel right below the power-window switch? From the factory, that's a plastic panel covered in carpet. Now it's open-cell foam with grill cloth, hiding 7" midranges.

Yea... now that you mention it I remember that panel that used to be there. Nice job on covers... you had me wondering WTF was going on.

So how in the world did you get 7" mids stuffed in there? Looks like a 4" is all that would fit from what I can see. Got any other install pix?

Mark
---------------------
I installed Infinity Kappa 5 1/4" components in the door sill area that sounded really good but, the highs were blocked whenever I had a passenger.

I decided to mount the tweeters in the upper door panels which brightend the sound stage and now the music sounds great.

The problem with the 90-96 door panels, are that both sides are not symetrical. You can modify the passenger door panel easy enough but, the driver side door panel is a lot tighter.

Here's a couple pictures.

Infinity Kappa's installed.

Tweeter relocated to the passenger door panel.

Tweeter relocated to the driver side door panel.

I did this quite some time ago, before digital cameras were widely available, so no pics of the back sides, sorry. The driver is a Vifa PL18WO-09-04

The driver side was considerably easier than the passenger side which required a sort of 'funnel' to get the response right. The main drawback was poor right-channel midrange response for the passenger (but quite good for the driver). I went through 7-8 variations of positions using the doors, dash and factory rail locations. The rails were awful in every instance, even when using very good drivers. While the tweeters were merely OK in the upper door panel, the whole soundstage opened up when I found just the right spots in the dash.

I went through both ideas GKK has, but quickly found them both to be unacceptable. I know my version requires a lot of work, but after several years of measurements and trial/error, I found it's the best alternative.
Spkrboy
--------------------------------------
I seems everyone is recommending the use of seperate tweeters. Spkrboy, I can't quite see the speaker in the pic of your door. Is it in that black area, and doesn't it get muffled when the door is closed? That's a great location for tweeters, what make are they?
GKK, that is a good idea on the floor because the new mounting board will allow speakers with more depth than the stock mounting plate. You can also angle the speakers a little better. I may try some 5x7s on the floor and tweeters up on the dash like Spkrboy.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

The mids are behind the light gray triangular area near the front of the door panel right under the black area. When you're in the seats with doors closed, it's above knee-level. When you take off your door panel, you'll see that area can be removed and modified.
Spkrboy

Spkrboy,

how are the 7" aimed? are they off axis or one axis? if on axis how are they mounted.

I know that there is room to mount the speakers in the doors. I also don't like the door sill mount. Although I had a 4 and tweet mounted to the sill, they sounded decent, but were easily blocked by the legs of the driver and passenger. that same system had a 6.5" in the door..

Maybe the 2 way will work better with the 6.5 in the door with a tweeter mounted like GKK did

They were as close to on-axis to the driver's position as I could get them. I used MDF, PVC, ABS sheet and a little epoxy to get the mount in the right position. Obviously there's only so much you can do on the left side, but the depth behind the passenger side allows you to tilt a woofer pretty far. You can see just how far to do that when you pull the door panel, remove that section, reinstall the panel on the door and start building out.

Any attempts at using the lower frame area were pointless. I hated every attempt I made. If it were only some sort of shallow midbass, it might have had a chance, but as a mid... no way.

Same as above, mounting the tweeters in the doors was unpleasant. It managed to raise part of the soundstage a bit, but the separation was excessive, and there was no depth whatsoever. I settled on a tweeter that could handle a lower crossover point than most. That helped a ton. Besides, getting tweeters in the upper dash is quite easy compared to getting mids in the doors.

FWIW, I'm extraordinarily picky about sound quality. Audio is important enough to me to go to these lengths, and it was not a simple task. The C4 is far-and-away the hardest vehicle into which I've ever tried to get a high-quality system. In the end, it was (to my ears) merely tolerable. After several years and countless attempts, this was the only solution I could live with.

Spkrboy,

Could you post a picture of the tweeter mounted on the drivers side of the dash? Thanks
GKK
-----------------------------------------
At one point I had a set of Orion HCCA 5s speakers, the 5.25" in the doors and the Tweeters in the dash (actually just on the dash surface) they were very harsh to me. could have been the speakers themselves. But I cannot recall how well the sound flowed in the car. I know the Pass speaker was closer to being on axis then the driverside.

Spkrboy, As you stated there is not really any room on the drivers side to get speakers on axis. I was all set in doing the tweeters and mids in the sill, but now I need to rethink things.

I like the set up bogus has with the 6.5 in the sill, the 4" in the door and the tweeter above.

I have a thought of that but need to see how/if I can fit the 6.5 in the sill, if so that might be a better route..

Athought the mid in the drivers door gets somewhat buried in the dash with the door closed

This is the best I have. You can just make out the top of the tweeter under the inspection sticker.

Jeff... I was never a fan of Orion drivers. Loved their amps, but speakers were a different story so they may have been the problem. As far as using the sill for a midbass, well, I haven't come across a midbass yet that was small enough to fit down there yet good enough to justify trying to integrate. The closest I came (still not really all that close) were the Kicker RMB6s. After messing with those, my hatred for Kicker grew exponentially. That's why I used very large mids. In the driver's door, if you take care, there is enough room to slightly tilt the driver. Nothing tremendous, but it's better than nothing.

I really can't emphasize strongly enough how BAD the factory locations are. Maybe Bogus will add to this?

Oh I agree completely.. What I am using for this install (as of right now0) is all CDT: Tweeters (TW-24), 4" (CL-4) and a 6.5" (EF-6). I have a set of ES/HD-300 3way crossovers. it sounded good in my 89, with the exception of the leg blocking. the 6.5" in the doors worked well as a mid-bass. the Sills had the 4" and Tweeter and I built pods to set them a bit closer to on axis and i was hppay with it (sans the leg issue)

I could ditch the 4" and use the 6 and Tweeter with the EF X-over or run active on a 2way in the front. I would like to use the drivers I have and might try to pitch the driver door speaker on axis.

As for the Sills, I could build out a bit, as I HAD to on my 89, since it had the 91 dash I had even LESS depth but I had something working. I have extra sill grilles to use and build out a bit for a 6.5" with might work out and the put the 4 in the door with the tweeter in the door/ Dash and see how that works.. I dont think the legs will be that big an issue with the mid bass..

where is bogus with his input??

What was your username on CF?

I'll answer that.
N.C.Kid.

And he didn't get much love over there, because of the posts like the one above.

Imagine, telling the IB of C4Guru he can make the forum better.

I bet he can too.

A 1 man forum.
Merry Christmas to you.

Glad to see you here, buddy! Now I'm not the loan Coloradoan! My hair is grey, I am fat, but I graduated high school in 87, so I'm not THAT old....

Anyway, I'm glad you found us, and I hope I can scam a ride in your Z sometime.

Hi everyone. I just picked up this 1990 on Wednesday. I was looking for an '88 or '89 because I didn't like the newer dash, but when I found this '90 and saw the newer dash in person I absolutely loved it! It's a black/black leather car with the 700r4. Right now the only thing wrong with it are the headlight motors.

Here is a picture I took yesterday.

Well, not new to Vettes, but to this site. Many of you know me from the CF...I reused my username as many have done here. I have no shame in that & nothing to hide. I have owned 5 Vettes to this point. I'm an 80's child for the most part & graduated in 85......yea, showing my age!!

I have to say that the bickering and dumb assed crap thats thrown from generation to generation is really getting OLD!! I have never bagged on any generation Vette. Theres some I dont like, but I never just bust out and tell someone their car sucks....thats just not cool. The part that really chaps my ass is when it gets personal....C5 guys are grey haired fat guys, C5 guys just wrote a check for their cars and have no personal attatchments to the car, C5 guys dont work on their cars, they just pay someone to do it......thats all pure bullsh*t...know how I know?...Cause I AM A C5 GUY!!!!!!

My love for the Vette in general is vast. I am of course particular to the C4. My first was an 89 black coupe, my second was a 94 convertable & now I have my 92ZR1. Now look at that, I'm also a C4 GUY!!! Can this be possible??? A C4 guy and a C5 guy at the same time!!! OMG!! and look, my hair is brown, I'm not fat & I'm not shi**ing nickles!!

In addition to my bright red 92 ZR1, I also own a badass torch red 02 Z06. Theres proof...I love Vettes period. I have to believe we can all get along just fine without tossing crap to eachother.

Having said all that, I will close by saying this. I have met alot of terrific Vette owners. Most own several generations....all the guys in my area are helpful, polite & respectful to eachother. I like to think I'm the same towards my fellow Vette brothers & sisters. I have done all my own work on all my Vettes & while not near as knowledgable as some of you guys are, I hope from my own experiences that I can be of some help to others.....and learn from others still.

Sorry for the long post.....Peace to all

Don't get into wars you can't win, ok?

Take a less confrontational stand, show some maturity and a true desire to learn and you will not get picked on.

You should be enjoying your vactaion, not watching over me. Trust me, if you let me watch over the site while you relax, it would be better than when you left it. Of course with Administrator privlages.

Just as soon as I get past tire pressure checking and dip stick reading I'll certainly consider what you have suggested. I'm still learning a lot about the tools. I think somebody sold me a set of left handed wrenches.

There's nothing wrong with your wrenches, they are for the left hand side of the car. You need to get a right hand set for the other side.

I was going to say that the wrenches you had were for the drivers side....but Case would have argued with me about that!

Only one more day of school this (calendar) year! Merry Christmas to all you out there.

I feel left out. I also participated in that "awful" CF bashing, but they didn't ban me. Schucks. I guess I need to do a better job next time.

I can't believe how self-centered, egotistical, obnoxious, those moderators must be over there to kick off a guy like Bogus. All he ever wanted to do was help his fellow Corvette brethren. What a bunch of asses.

Huh? Your one of the top bullys over there. I can say you have given me your fair share of rude comments when they were uncalled for.

You earn every bit of it mate.

I'm only a asswipe when need be. I can name a whole page full of members that treated me like dirt the first post I made 3 years ago when I first joined up over at CF. I remember my first ban to. Becawz I tiped lik dis s0 m0j0 done hit da ban mark 0n m3. But lets take me out of the equation for his and others rude comments on new comers with the Lambo door quiestions, air foil blah blah blah. I don't think they were born geniuses. They were newbs 2. BUT, I am not going to start a big match here cuz it's not as entertaining doing it here as it is at CF. Computer monitors give guys bigger egos than they really have. 3/4 of the stuff that goes on over there would never come out of someones mouth in person. Take my neons for example. If I went to Cruise in, I doubt anyone would say to my face, THOSE ARE FREAKING UGLY MAN.

Everyone knows that normally I am sweet as sugar...
