I just got a nice radio from my Father-in-law and still need to research where to take the test.I zipped through the training material(they give you the answers!) last week while stuck in the hospital. The FCC eliminated the morse code requirement a few years back, so it seems really easy to get an Amature Radio station licensed and on the air......From what I,ve read, the airwaves are a little more professional, not the cursing, cigarette sucking CBers we have been used to hearing at one time or another in the past.... just wondered if anyone else has ever been involved with the hobby.

Saw in yesterday's chat
Bowling, St Patty Parties, a/c and injector rebuilds, trips to Yet another Key (Biscaynne, I hate you Tommy)rebuilds on working plant shacks, threats of IPad purchases,(in Houston yet! and flight home in time to deliver a new trans to Grizz by Pete, possible track time....I'm so jealous!!! You folks have lives! Where do ya get one.....

Big ones involve travel, be safe Grizz, thats a long drive to Wilkes from MD. and Well, I guess Biscayne isnt too far(still what scenery!) Be safe gents and enjoy. I have to catch up with someone here in the east soon or run down to Fla for a beer with Tommy. I still have 2.59s in my rear so that would make for economy car mileage down to Fla. (Hmmmm)
Enjoy your days guys!

Good Luck Tommy.Drink lots of water today.

Nice weather was fleeting at best over the weekend. Sat am Thought we'd get out for a ride and a nice breakfast somewhere. Well, that idea flopped we got almost 2 inches of rain. What a weekend!

I am not sure how far it is from me. I would guess it's about 3 hours.

Next time I drive up to see my dad you and I should get a beer or something. He lives in NE Penna.

That'd be cool Jeff. Let me know.

It isn't simple, unfortunately.
The bushings are driven into their respective bores, to all different depths. There is no stop to locate them.
The correct driver shall have 2 steps. The lower step is the same od as the id of the bushing (less a thou or 2)
The upper step of the bushing will match the bore the bushing will go into (less a couple of thou).
I have never seen a driver set work, other than the specific specialty drivers offered for transmsiions.
Most shops have an approx 40 pc master set that runs 6-7 hundred bucks or more.
I own the 13 piece set specific to a 700r4, and think I paid about $300 for it. Perhaps e-bay has used sets?

I understand the 2 step function. ebay is a great option as well as Craigs list. Infact there are 2 sets on CL now with about a dozen pieces each ranging in size from 3/8 to 1 3/8 on the largest. Ijust need to know whats the largest one I'll run into. would sets this small cover any of what I might run across? Mabey I'll just need to grab a set like you have pete only specific to the 700r4/4l60e. I can't say price is no option, but I can spend to buy what I'll be needing. I'm a Pharmacist and I'm used to learning something new every day, but this cancer/chemo has had me out of work now for 2 years and I need to keep learning something new or I'll go bananas! I like a good challenge and this seems like it will make me think. So, basically, I need to know if sets in that size range will be a good starting point? are they too small? need to be metric? and what is the largest I should expect to see.

P.S. sorry for the rant mid-paragraph gents, no offense I hope. alan

you would have to get your pcm reprogammed. but you would also have to add a wire to the harness for the pcm to be able to control pwm valve. or instead of that you could just lock the valve back. its not impossible to run the transmission but there is the above that needs to be done.. i use to own a 94 trans am and it ate transmissions for breakfast. 94 is a one of a kind of sorts for transmissions. if you haven't purchased the trans yet you can find them in trucks and caprice/impala's also.

My Vet is the '94 (and actually the 95 short block is vette too} Remember, this is a learning tool for me and 95 z28s are 1500 to 3000 around here. I'm sure I could just rebuild it and toss it into a camaro if I get the build right. besides some kid is bound to pick it up this summer. I don't need to make a buck, just learn so I can do the vette at a later date Josh.

Pete? any help on the bushing sizes. They seem to come in a kit containing 12 or so to redo them all but no sizes listed. Mabey in the factory manual?

Mabey I should sell the 94 and get an 89. I think thats whats in the 3rd pic. That chromed intake (even not chromed) is just one of the most beautiful pieces of artwork chevy's engineers have ever come up with.....if it only made a few more horsepower.........

Nice shots Tommy, keeps us all looking forward to spring.

Don, thats a Beauty...would you really WANT to get rid of it??!! I did that search for the heck of it and looked over the nultiple listings . I saw the Black '96 Andy saw that was wrecked...what a mess...and they still want over 6K for it! I guess if you part out its worth it. not for me.
Maybe after They all sit on 'em for a while without a sale, prices will favor buyers a little more. We'll see, I've got time.

I admit it...I stopped in "over there" to check the for sale stuff. 150K miles(Highway!?) for 9 grand and more up to 14 grand for any old color/options!!! C4s aren't collectors yet are they?
Everytime I start looking again I get sticker shock. I paid 12k for my 50kmile 94 five years ago! WTF!! That Polo I want is further out of reach than I thought.

Yeah, hold me for a season. ( My garage is snowed in and roads full of salt so this is a good winter project)Unless I run across the Polo I want and can get a quick sale(yeah, right) on the 94. That should do. I'll try to get it together before the end of Jan. and post a pic with this thread. Thanks again for the advice on the double din and the other comments guys!

Looks reasonably plain but has blue backlighting and is a little glossy. I could live with it for a while. little wimpy on the output but pioneer puts out an 600W amp that would bring the output up to 50W or so a channel for cheap.

Really? Double din will fit with minimal trimming?

Just a thought Andy.
I'm beginning to subscribe more and more to your gut and replace theory. I guess I bought it with a shitty stereo and chances are some kid will grab it up anyway when its time to sell, will he care? I'm replacing the set with something better, so, probably not. Its a nice car but not a collector so I'm the only one who cares! I just hit 50 on 12/21 so its officially an old mans toy anyway. LOL!
Thanks for the input guys...keep debating anyway. It always brings up something somebody didn't know! I'll be watching.

not to throw gas on the fire, but, does that mean that you could leave the bose hu stock and take a "preamped" signal out of the reciever, send to a decent amp, and replace all of the speakers, therefore getting decent sound? How many volts is the signal?

Thanks for moving the post Andy.....its the chemo brain!
What I want to do is get it (the dash) cleaned up so I can maybe put it out there for sale. The rest of the car is in reasonable shape for being 15 years old. Clearcoat is still intact and its not a real common color anymore. I still have the original wheels in the garage as well as the complete original exhaust.I'd love to upgrade to an '96 lt4 in Polo green? The only thing holding me back is I still only have 61k on it and its well behaved, I know what I've got with it behaving and all(no mechanical issues). Its a bit of a garage queen but I "enjoy" it when its out stretching its legs.
What would you suggest for the sound? Not much out there looks terrebly stock for a c4 dash......I know I saw you post a question a long time ago about Nakamichi, I think the 400 model? It looks pretty plain, but then You'd need an amp too I guess. I picked up one of those dash plates that says corvette on the bottom of it from Vroom Vroom years ago and never put it to use. Help !

edit: I just read every post in the section and even found my original question from 2008. Opinions don't seem to have changed much since then and I guess I should apologize for duplicating my original post. Found a Nakamichi cd400 for $289. The display lighting can be changed to amber to"kind of" match the dash better. I'm chewing on this option(again)

A long time ago, I think I posted a pic of my 94's dash. the previouse owner did a real hack job on the radio, cut the bezel and "made" a single din Blaupunkt fit. I'm finally tired of looking at it. I found a HU on ebay for a '95 (white buttons)and have had a new bezel in the garage for a couple of years.....at least I'll be able to make the dash look stock! I really don't listen much, I prefer to listen to the engine doin' its thing. I think my My tuner is in the bin behind the passenger seat. They left the connectors plugged in there, so when I crack the dash, I expect to find the old wiring just sitting there. Hacks I tell you, Hacks!!They just ran speaker wire from the Blaupunkt to the Bose speakers in the rear and installed some Blaupunkt speakers up front.
I guess My question is, did I read the FAQs correctly....the bose amp is in the tuner in the '94? or do I need to find some amps?
Sorry for the long post, For some reason, the situation is just bugging me! Thanks guys.

Don't you at least have to downshift and swerve for the Gators crossing?

When I was young (back before dirt) that was a country road that ran up along the DE River. Very twisty and also very scenic and too many tourists on a nice weekend. Sounds like you really got to enjoy it to the max. Very Nice.

A rarity for sure, but when you get a nice surprise like that ya take it and run!!!!!!

Funny all of you know of this spot......Why did everyone leave? Fall is beautiful around Pa.!!

Hey Andy,
I think it was you who reccognized the pics of Bucks County covered bridges I put up last year......

Do you remember Rte 32 along the Delaware river in Pa. near New Hope? I ran across a 1990 Twin turbo Z(real nice shape well kept) stretching his legs a bit on that road yesterday. I was kind of proud to say I kept pace with him and before we new it, we had a mid 60s Jag xke chasing us too.... only 15 or 20 miles of twists with some short straights, but, I haven't had that much fun in quite some time! I stopped at the light next to him that crosses the river into Lambertville, Nj.....He rolled down the window and said " I think you were speeding a little back there" and I laughed and said You should know 'cause I could count the nicks and scratches on your bumper( I was real close)LOL! Fun morning

Hey gang,
I;ve got this 96 lt1 block... came w/ crank,rods and pistons
and aside from the heads, thats it. The bores look good, no ridge and still see the crosshatch. I measured it and is still a flat 4 inches so its never been touched. my question is, can it be built as a 94 obd1 block? I think 96 was the year obd2 showed up and the crank position sensor and all that junk showed up. Since I dont have the timing chain cover, I was wondering if I could just get one of those from a 94 or earlier(which would be minus the CPS) and go from there. Any opinions?
Alan

Gettin a hip replaced on Wednesday but I'll be up and around in a few days they tell me, so let me know if I can help!

Wow, hip replacement and up and around in a few days. That is amazing. Good luck with the surgery and the recovery. I guess nothing is irreplaceable. I'll pray for you to have a fast and complete recovery.

Thanks for the positive thoughts guys, but, I'm serious! They kick your ass daily with therapy, so, I'm plannibg to hit the ground runnin'asap....the cancer couldn't get me last year so whats a hip? A few pain killers( I'm a pharmacist, remember, so I know exactly what to ask for LOL!) some foul language I'll be good to go. Besides, I'll need stuff to keep my mind busy... somebody ask me to hold the flashlight or hand ya a socket or somethin'....
