Did you strip them all the way down to bare metal, or just spray with brake cleaner?

TPIS has been the best fit that I have seen, my Hookers (2151) did not fit my AFR heads so I cut the tubes out of the headers and welded in sections that better cleared the spark plugs.

If fitment is an issue, buy uncoated headers, and cut & weld the tubes, then have the coated by Jet Hot etc.

I know, it has been done many times before, just wanted to document the lower cost for parts.

Rock Auto C5 Rotors = $50 shipped ($20.99 each)
14x2 mm Bolts = $10.00
C5 Calipers, Brackets & Pads = $190 shipped
SS braided brake lines = $100
Conversion brackets made by me = $0

Since these are NOT Z06 Calipers, I have to paint them the color of my choice

So I painted them w/ RED & Black caliper paint and left the lettering silver, then clear coated w/1200-degree clear,, painted the retro-brackets too

I did this last May, gonna do the rear's next month

OK, I bought the Coil-over part list from Mo's website, www.ndneyes.com

Since the 1985 shock towers are wimpy and narrow, I cut them as seen in the pic below.

Then I machined some 1/4" thick 1018 CRS to match the same angles as the stock towers and ol'RJ welded them up.

The last pic is just the mock up of the new QA1 in the new tower.

Once the wheel well area was cleaned it was repainted,

Just an FYI, vette2vette.com and tabercorvetteparts.com had 1990-1996 front shock towers you can buy and weld onto your 85-89 (not sure where the thin towers end and the wider towers begin) to replace the factory towers.

The early years shock towers use .125" thick steel and the later years use .160" thick steel. I used .250" thick on the sides and .375" on the top due to the larger span

I would say that it would take @ 4 hours to cut off both towers,
1. IF you had a decent air compressor using a cutoff wheel
2. and a spot weld drill bit,,,
3. and if you removed the lower ball joint nut and swing the a-arm up out of the way.
4. Then you need access to a 220volt welder of your choice,

I saw the car when he first for it. All he did was paint it and do the misc. stuff I listed.

I took another look at it (forgot my damn camera, so no pic's yet) - looks like the previous owner was trying to make it into a rolling boom-box.

There's a Kenwood amp bolted to the back deck and what looks like a speaker box in the back too.

I had some road debris actually come up and break the petcock on the bottom of the radiator. At least that is the only way I can think that it got broken, but it was leaking from the drain. I hade to buy a new petcock. It was cheap at the dealer.

I hope yours is that easy.

Do this, save the job until the weather warms a bit (April?). Then go to your local cruise in and ask the hot rod guys who sets their gears.

Hello eveyone,

First would like to start off by saying I am glad to be on the new site! Looks cool, now I just have to figure out how to use it.

With that said, I didn't know where to post this questions so here goes.

I need to have a new rear installed in my car. No not the Corvette, but the 96 Impala. I have everything from a new Eaton Posi 400 Unit, to 3.42 Gears, a master overhaul kit, oil, posi lube... everything.

I made an appointment for this place that was suggest to me over on one of the other sites, but after doing a little research and not having any information on this company turn up except for the one person (I don't know) who told me to go there I am getting cold feet.

I am located in New York and obviously would like to get this done as close as possible. I know corvette owners are generally more anal when it comes to this sort of thing (this is a good thing)... So I ask on here, Where should I go?

DG

I DO have a coolant drip... found evidence of it today when I was changing the oil.

Now all I need to do is find the source...

How thick does the flange have to be before going to the 1" bolts? 3/4" is stock right?

Wouldent he be better off sticking with his stock LT1 exhaust? Just cut it far enough back to fit some bullet cats after the headers.

I got the EM long tubes in a group purchase on CF, something like $700 shipped. I would have loved to go with the hookers for less than half the price but I could not find them for the LT1 and could not figure out just what was different so paid the extra. I like what I ended up with so no complaints.

Yep, that's right, I put the C5 in the shop a couple of weeks back. Here's a list of what I'm getting done.

1. Breathless performance rear brake ducts.
2. True flames on the center of hood
3. True flames on and around the word CORVETTE on rear bumper.
4. Cut center bar out from the muffler area on the rear bumper (tiger shark style)
5. Repaint doors, front bumper, rocker panels, rear bumper, mirrors and hood.
6. Buff out entire car.

I can't wait to get it back, I'll post some pics when it's done.

Just click that, then type in your stuff.

Thanks for the info. With my cam I have my idle at about 850 to 875 and I like it there. With the higher stall converter it is hardly noticable that it is higher than stock. I hate to say this but performance wise I am running out of things to spend money on (until I can afford a forged bottom end and can spray a 300 shot instead of a 125 shot). I need to save for part breakage so I don't know if I'm going to spring for pulleys or not tho. I've been told by some that underdrive pulleys will pick up .1 or .2 in the 1/4 mile, others say no gain at all.

Stainless Works also makes a good setup. I forgot them in my first post. You'll need mufflers if you put headers on.

If you want to get crafty, you could use TPIS headers, into their ypipe. Shove a cat onto the end and then run an L98 cat back. You might need to make a bracket or two but it should be pretty straight forward to essentially swap to an L98 exhaust system. Power loss should be minimal if at all. since you are an auto, I'd either not buy the UD pulley or get the two pulley kit. Autos idle lower than sticks when sitting at a stop light.

The water pump will be fine if you radiator and fans are working as they should.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't spend the money on the pulleys. It's just not worth it I think. There are better items to spend your money on.

Nobody talking about the Vegas race? My man running 2nd and gets wiped out by Gordon. OOh well, I know it wasn't intentional. Too bad tho, Kenseth was making a nice comeback in the points after crashing out at Daytona. Nice finish last week then running 2nd near the end tonight. On the bright side, Kahne and Newman and Junior all had good runs again and Gordon and Johnson and Busch did not!

Great job on the transition. We need to add the "click here to vote for the top 100" button on the forums page. I liked it right there and being able to vote in about 2 seconds flat. Also I think we better change the name again, just pm everyone except for Tommy what the new name will be!!

I'll ask CafePress if they'll consider adult body suits.

If I was forced to choose a C2, I would want a 65 BB coupe. First year for the BB and the only year with the 396. Sure the 427 is better and over shadows the 396 but when is the last time you saw a 65 396?

Now if we are talking non stock, any 63-72 coupe and I'd either put multiple different LSx combinations in it or just buy a different car each time I wanted the change the engine.

To the best of my recent knowledge when my car was last tested about 18 months ago they used a sniffer on the rollers. The guys never opened the hood.

Everyone in my club that has headers on thier cars have put aftermarket cats on, so I don't think that is an issue.

Tony Corvettes is up in Gaithersburg, MD and he does an artful and beautiful installation of long tubes, crossover pipes and cat backs, but it costs a lot of $$$$$

I'm just looking for some tubes and cats to plumb into my existing system. Although I have not mufflers either, so that could be another problem.

Thanks, that is what I needed to know. If I buy underdrive pulleys then I'll buy the 2 pulley kit. I hope my water pump still spins fast enough tho, seeing as how it is going to slow down.

Well, I guess I will start the first thread and hopefully it will be a good one for people to read.

The C3 LSx swap headers I designed will be available very soon. One minor revision needed to be made and they are on their way back to the company doing the building. They said they should have them ready in about a week. It takes almost a week for the headers to get there. I am hoping in two to three weeks to be able to say they are ready. I'll be having an introductory sale on them for sure. I have no idea what pricing will be right now. They will be available coated and uncoated. They only come with 1-3/4" primaries and 3" collectors with no AIR or EGR fittings.

I do have the motor plates and Zbar bracket available now though. Well, the Zbar brackets will be available in three days. Pricing should be $130 -$140 for the motor plates and Zbar bracket black epoxy coated with hardware. I'll set the final price once I get the Zbar brackets back from the coaters. The headers were designed to work with the Zbar bracket.

Contact me for any more info. speedhound at netzero dot com

Thanks
