The computer grounds the relay which starts the fan. I have tapped into both ground wires and tested the wiring. Both start fine. My concern was if the small wire low amp circuit would carry the load. I like a light because I am old and getting a little senile. I don't want to be running both fans any more than necessary. I think you answered my question Coaster. Thanks to all that responded. Later! Frank

Yes, those are the bulbs I am referring to. For some strange reason, my 86 is using a completely different bulb. I had purchased a kit from Mid America that had the 882's in it. My cluster was using bulb # 7073 (which is a different base) which is used on the 89 clusters. I searched around and could not locate the 7073 bulbs, so I ordered the 4 from Mid America (was $ 20 for all 4). I figured since the dash was a little dim and I had everything apart, I might as well replace while I have easy access to them.

Well it certainly is an interesting business. As you know it is always challenging getting the shot right and on many shoots we have waited hours just to get the light right.

I've watched grips take hours lighting a car for about a 5 minute shoot.

I loved the work but it is pretty demanding.

What you're doing sounds cool too but I guess once you lose the interest in it for any reason it would be hard to make a good product.

The free lance Gig is a good one for sure. I've also worked with many Directors that free lanced for Ford Communications Network. They were pretty cool people and from what I could gather, like you they did very well financially.

I wish you luck with the new adventure. I'm sure you'll be fine. Keep us up to date if you can.

One question though. Where in Pa. is your wife from?? I grew up in Lancaster County. Ephrata to be exact.

Take Care
Gary

My 84 has a plastic sill with a little pad on it where you slide across, it matches the interior color, I thought it was factory?

Do the fan relays switch the fan motor grounds or the 12V side?

I recall my fans have fusible links, not a fuse. I don't really like tapping into fat circuits like that for some little bs wiring inside the car, its not as safe IMO.

Yeah, it depends.

The easy way is a light that tells you if the switch is on.

The other way is a light that tells you if the fan is getting power.

The little light is easily powered by the low current side of the relay. If you can't find a lighted switch you like, try some miniature LED lights, painless makes them I used a few in my truck. They require drilling a 1/8" hole.

I stuck my fan switch out of sight near the ALDL plug. It powers both fans on, but only when the key is on. So if I forget and leave it on its no big deal. I would notice next time I turned the car on and heard the fans whooshing with no engine running.

Are you going by Batee.com web page on how to repair the dash?

From what you typed I am not sure what you are talking about.

There are three small bulbs, Two are under the arrows and one is under the Blue Bright light indicator. These are available at all car parts stores.

Then there are four larger bulbs that I would have to research exactly what number they are. They are available at Napa for about $7 each. They are kinda hard to locate as a NAPA will only have 2-3 in stock......and I threw one away Just Yesterday and the trash man drove off a few minutes ago so no getting package out and reading it to you.

There is a re-solder process for components on the board that needs to be followed. You can get the instructions from Batee.com.

Tell us where you are in this process.

What's wrong with a 5/8"x1/2" ? I figured you were doing 3/4" because of the bolt size.

Those rod ends looked really narrow, I figured the stock bushing would be way wider and you'd need some shims in there.

Are you sure you don't want to clamp any force on the sides of the ball? How tight do the

As for the attachment, I was mixing that up with a control arm mount, I forgot you were dealing with basically replacing a miniature ball joint.(factory tie rod end)

Is it really necessary to replace those? They already have bearings in them. I thought the goal was to just get rid of the bushings.

Also I think you may be incorrect on those control arm bolts being in shear from the factory. The bolts merely clamp the bushing sleeves. The load is taken up by the contact surface between the sleeve end and the knuckle. The bolt isn't supposed to carry that load. The bolt should be (?) in pure tension I believe. Otherwise you can visualize the slop allowing the inner sleeve to rattle on the bolt and beat it to death.

You are correct - the sleeves are necessary because no one (at least no one that I could find in 2 weeks of research) sells a 3/4-16 thread with a 1/2" bore. Most are 3/4" bore so you need the reducer bushing.

It is slightly longer than the thickness of the bore so the bolt clamps down on the bushing rather than the rod end.

The attachment is definately putting the bolt in shear. It bolts to the top of the "arm" that sticks rearward from the knuckle. I can take a photo later if you like.

I can't remember how the stock toe arms attached, anyone have a picture?

The camber rods are surrounded by the knuckle on either side, but again, the bolt is in shear. But I do remember that this is how the stock parts were fastened.

Sent these pictures over to the previous owner and he couldn't believe how far I had gotten on it. He also liked the red...before he decided to sell the Vette, he was thinking about doing red interior. But, he really liked the black/red combo I have going. :thumbright: The previous owner can't wait to see my Vette when I am done with it. Of course, then he might have some serious sellers remorse.

John,
You can count me in for a pair, especially if you can do that rear flair part too. Would be nice to have those on to keep the rubber from the slicks getting all over the side of the Vette. :thumbright:

Fixed it for you! I see this all the time on 4x4s, monster long shocks and no bump stops, then they snap the shock mounts and damage they're pretty shocks.

Obviously the front shock on these IS the bump stop, but at least that's in double shear or otherwise not torquing anything like the single-shear bolt on the bottom rear mount.

I just got back online after a week's hiatus and read the latest on this thread...

A few comments.

Most C4's on track run about 1/16" to 1/8" toe out up front, zero in the rear. Toe out allows the front tires to be closer to paralell while in a turn. However, you will always have them on a slightly different radius no matter what you do (unless you have active steering, which can turn the wheels at different angles ) As mentioned by Bill, it increases drag on straights and can make the car darty, so you would never want toe out on the street. Toe in, or at worst, zero up front.

I have the VBP suspension in the back of my car (basically the same as the EM stuff Brian linked above) and my first time out with it I lost about 2 seconds on a track I know well. There could be a lot of factors involved, but that was the only major change I made to the car since my last run at that track.

However, why would anyone bother on the street? You don't "feel" the difference tooling around town, and you have to constantly maintain the heim rod ends, either greasing or replacing them. They're not designed for water, salt, etc...

How are these spacers working? The rod end hole is bigger than the bushing bolt. So you put a sleeve in the rod end, sort of like the original bushings have?

Then this sleeve has to be long enough to clamp down when the bushing bolt is tightened, or at least have the correct ID so that it isn't sloppy on the suspension bolt.

Are your rod ends loading the suspension bolts, or the knuckle directly? The reason I ask is usually the bolts aren't supposed to be put in shear. They're put in tension which causes the bolted components to transfer the load directly through the load bearing surface. If that doesn't make sense let me know.

Of course none of that really matters for me right now because it looks like I just blew my car budget for the next few months when my tranny went out.

Received the Speedway parts last week and installed them last night. No feedback on how they last will be available until this summer, however. One concern is that I had to insert a reducer bushing (3/4" to 1/2") in each one and in one end the bushing was loose. The other was a slight interferance fit as expected. I wonder if that will translate into slop on the track.

Cost seems to be the main reason as stated above. Initial "bite" is more a product of pad compound than caliper selelction. Rotor thickness will help with cooling, but In a street application this is irrelevant. On track or Auto-X this is more important.

So...go with what you can get for less money up front and less money for replacement parts.

Well, it appears that the bulbs in my gauges are from a 1989. Don't know if the gauge cluster was upgraded or not. I did notice, when I ordered the cover for the idiot lights that the one for 1986 had a light for battery charging (lower left corner) and the one that was on the car had an Overdrive light (from a 1985). Man, is my 86 from all over the place. The targa top is a late 86 model, but the heads on the motor are early 86. Go figure!! :shaking:

Nope they are not full length. Just the foot area like you said. You could get an L shaped piece of stainless or go to your local upholstery shop and have them make you a cover for the area maybe in leather or vinyl to match the seats.

I may give the upholstery shop a try. It's amazing to me that longer ones are not made. Both 88's I have owned have been worn out by sliding your $ss across them, mine included.

I added 900 sgft to my house all the work was done by me and the Kid.
The kids a licensed contractor, that helps a lot.

I had a basement that I turned into a apartment, we added a full kitchen, a full bath, laundry room, living room and one bedroom.

The basement had nothing in it, just concrete. We did all of the electrical,
plumbing water and gas, all of the framing, all of the concrete work, all the cabinets, all of the tile work all 700 12"x12" tiles, all of the dry wall.

Water heator, water heator closet, all the bathroon fixtures, etc.
Its been up for 10 years and its returned about $60,000 in rents.

Total cost was about $18,000
A friend with money remolded his kitchen and gave me his old cabinets.
I cut them to fit my project and it finished off the apartment.

It took about 1 year to finish, I worked on it after work and all day on the weekends. The kid did about 25% of it.

After that I didn't need the kid anymore and I remolded my kitchen up stairs, new cabinets in some areas and in the other areas I built new cabinet doors and cabinets. I intalled a wood parquet floor in the kitchen and I tilled the counter tops, new sink, faucet, crown moulding, all new paint and then I added a 200sgft extension to my balcony.

That got pergo, which is crap.

I have a lot of money in tools just to do the job. If you don't have the time or the skills or the money to buy the tools do as The Central Coaster says and just do a quick make over of the exsisting kitchen in this market nothing comes back.

I try to stay away from politics. I hate to get into heated debates about this stuff. A lot of that is because I don't really know my democratic donkey from a whole in the ground, so I can't have an intelligent conversation with a political analyst.

I am not a fan of George W. But he did do one good thing. He motivated me to get off my ass and get registered to vote.

So I am a registered Democrat. But I don't think I can vote for Hillary or Obama. I could maybe cross party lines and vote for Chuck Norr... I mean Huckabee. He actually seems to answer questions when he is asked, rather than double talk his way around them.

But if it comes down to Hillary or Obama, and Huckabee is out of the running, then I would probably vote for McCain if that was an option. Even though sometimes I see him standing at the podium and I find myself singing "We represent the Lollipop Guild..."

Whatever happens, I think the country (and perhaps the world) will breathe a huge sigh of relief once Bush is out.

My apologies to the Bush fans. If you dig him, I can respect that.

I think a better source for the light is to use the output of the relay to the fan motor. If it lights up, you know the relay is sending voltage to the motor.

Yeah, so I just blew a or both rear speakers. I have the premium bose system for '96. I really don't want to replace the whole system. My question is basically what requirements do the new speakers have to meet? Wattage, two way, three way, etc. I checked on the little computer at Best Buy. It gave me several options in the way of 61/2 in. speakers. I read where 6x9's might fit? That would be great if they did.

Right now I make those cheezy local television commercials you see running for local businesses. Although mine are not too bad. I've been doing that with a major cable company for eleven years. Pay is just OK, but benefits are outta sight.

I also do corporate videos and longer format stuff on the side. I make out like a bandit on those, because I can write, direct, shoot, edit, do graphics and author interactive DVDs on my own. So I don't have to pay anyone for anything.

That's where I make my play money. I bought my Vette from the proceeds of about 3/4 of one job last year. I make sure my kids have cool toys and that my wife can travel back home to PA a few times a year, all with freelance work.

I hate to think about leaving the deal I've got going, but the regular 8-5 job is pretty corporate, and I'm tired of working for "The Man". Ya know? It used to be a fun company, but the bean counters have taken over. I suspect that has happened to a lot of companies.

I have not had to do much traveling in my current position, but that may change with the new job. Hopefully it is not too destructive for my family. I think it will be maybe one or two months a year and that's about it.

The position I am considering is a shooter and editor for a reality TV show, but also being an influential partner in the production company that will produce the show.

Basically a show that brings a bunch of drivers together to compete for a shot at an Indy car sponsorship. I've seen the promos and stuff they have already produced, and they need my help pretty badly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjW1cVaMdY8

This lacks energy, IMO. They could have done much better. But the folks that are responsible for this edit have been sacked. I think it's my turn next.

I am cautiously optimistic...

The first place I went was the Tech Library. All I see are two unrelated articles. Later! Frank

We have an intersection by us in Ft. Lauderdale (west) that has racked up the most accidents of any intersection in the U.S.

Flamingo Rd and Pines blvd.

I heard Huckleberry this morning talking about the elimination of the IRS and impimenting the flat tax. It should have been done a decade ago. Current tax laws are waste of time, energy and money. There has to be a better way based upon what you buy is what you pay. The more luxurious your lifestyle the more you kick into the till. Aint got nothing or buying nothing you don't pay nothing.

I'd love to see a change in our tax system...Steve Forbes likes the above system (I think).

Good Morning Gurus!

Not too much going on here.

I did get a call from the guy I hope to be working for in a few months. It is looking like I will be on location for nine days sometime in March, shooting part of the show. I'm not sure which racetrack we'll be shooting at. He mentioned Texas, Arizona and California. Whichever one it is, I will let you guys know, and maybe if I am close to any of you, we can get together, or I can get you on location for the shoot, if you are interested.

Looks like I may be full-time with the new company on April. So the March shoot is a big chunk of freelance cash. I gotta burn a vacation to do it, but that is not a problem.

How ya'll doin?

Hey Cool

What kind of work do you do??

I used to work on a film crew filming TV Commercials for Ford/Lincoln-Mercury. We also did marketing events and auto shows etc.

Cool work but I was gone a long time. I would leave to go to California and the wife would be at the front door crying. I would stay out 1 month then I told them I was coming home.

I loved it. Always worked with beautiful women and went to beautiful places. They don't film commercials in the ghetto's.

Gary

California, has some of the best roads in the country, and some of the worst drivers. The real problem is no-one slows down when its fogged in or raining.

But on the other hand we also have some of the best drivers in country.
Theres actually few fatals here considering the 38,000,000 people who live here.

They left out Hiway 17 theres something like 300+ accidents there every year, but you put one crusier out there and theres 0 accidents.

Whats that mean?

Back surgery can be more of a problem than a cure.
Sounds like you got a good doctor. Good luck to you and your family.

Well, for diagnostic purposes, I swapped an auto 2.59 chip for an auto 3.07 axle ratio chip. It wasn't the chip, but a previously intermittent problem became a permanent code and helped troubleshooting the problem. I guess we got lucky on that one.

With auto probably being 2.59 and manual 3.45 axle ratio, I doubt it would make any sense for Dads90 to swap chips.
I would assume, using an auto chip in a manual set up is not so much a problem as vice versa.

Dads90, before I go through the trouble, see if you can find out. I have a 3.07 rear auto.

I picked up the replacement light bulb kit from MidAmerica for the 4 bulbs that go in the speedometer/tachometer area. They sent me 4 halogen bulbs, but the ones in the car are 7073's (look identical to 194 bulbs). The halogen bulbs that were sent have a base on them, instead of the wedge-type that are in the dash. Does anyone know if the 194's would be fine to use? Figure, since I have the car apart, I'd rather replace the bulbs now. Thanks.

Alright man, here are some videos for you to watch. Hopefully you can get past the British accent. The first video shows you how to get your photos onto Photobucket. The next video shows you how to put them on a forum. Good luck!

Maybe his was slate or something then. The tiles were much thinner, like 3/8".

He had the end pieces ground and polished. I'll try and get a pic from him and post here later today if I don't become my boss's whipping boy all day again. I haven't even left for work yet though.

Is the countertop damaged other than that cheap ass laminate peeling off the edges? Can't that simply be replaced, leaving the rest intact?

Another option you may consider for the countertop is granite tile. My friend did his in granite tile with very thin grout lines and it came out great. Much cheaper than solid granite.

Yep, granite tiles, that's where I'm going. The good ones butt together and have very small grout lines. The tiles are 1 1/2 thick with bullnose edges and inside corners available. They can be cut with a tile saw.

Roughly $24 a sq.ft. at www.bedrockcreations.com, but these have the edges that are separate from the field tile (12 x 12).

www.benissimosystems.com, has the full tiles with the edges on them for a more professional look. I haven't priced these yet.
