LA MARQUE, Texas – A man blamed a low-flying pelican and a dropped cell phone for his veering his million-dollar sports car off a road and into a salt marsh near Galveston. The accident happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday on the frontage road of Interstate 45 northbound in La Marque, about 35 miles southeast of Houston.

The Lufkin, Texas, man told of driving his luxury, French-built Bugatti Veyron when the bird distracted him, said La Marque police Lt. Greg Gilchrist. The motorist dropped his cell phone, reached to pick it up and veered off the road and into the salt marsh. The car was half-submerged in the brine about 20 feet from the road when police arrived.

Gilchrist said he doesn't know if the car was salvageable, but in his words, "Salt water isn't good for anything." He says the man, whose identity hasn't been released, was not injured.

A 2006 Bugatti Veyron was recently offered for sale in Jonesboro, Ark., for $1.25 million.

Cars are replaceable people aren't

but why was he on his cell phone?

Couldn't afford a bluetooth after buying his car?

It wasn't Arnold's wife was it?

I'd give the insurance company 50K and take a chance on it.

Just a passing thought. If you were to spend a mil on a car, dont you think it should have built in floatation and a passive fire extinguishing system.?

I still feel worse for the guy whose wife rear ended him with her Hyundai while he was bringing his new Z06 home.

As for the Bugatti, on mine it goes up at 140mph. And will lower at about 85. Also, if you stomp on the brakes at 220mph, the wing stands straight up, increasing surface area, to help slow the car down.

Huh, oh... Did I mention this was in a video game? A highly accurate one though.

The seat bottoms can be used as flotation devices in a water landing situation.

The local news tonight had video of him leaving the road and
splashing into the water. It didn't look like it was going
much over the speed limit. Maybe the salt water caused the
spoiler to go up? Didn't see any pelicans in the video...

That makes me wonder if he owns the car or was 'test driving' someone elses. Either way I guess he now has his next project.

Man, I would be sooooo Pis**d off! Phones and birds just don't mix. That's some flat area down there. I've been on that stretch of road and there's no room to be taking your eyes off the road.

So is his insurance company!

The fact that it was caught on film almost makes it sound like a stunt. I mean, what are the odds?
