These things are an absolute nightmare to do anything on. I mean doing injectors sucks, the water pump sucks, and especially removing the engine is an absolute nightmare. Only to be capped by the install of the motor.
Just the sheer number of crap that is on this thing. |

Don't forget about the Torx bolts, especially the intake ones that have to be installed backwards by a trained hamster.

I personally hate dealing with the L98.
I know was an evolution and an important step that gets us where we are today, but it really hasn't aged well. |

If my John Deere ever throws a rod, the L98 will make a great replacement.

Man, you guys are bashing my mill! They may be hard to work on but at least they're slow, damit! And like any other boat anchor they are fairly reliable. Also the distributer is where God intended it to be and I think ECM's, if you ever need them, can be got for a C note.
Since I am on a roll here, in my brief time on the Guru site I believe there have been a lot more weird can't figure it out problems on the LS stuff then the time honored and Respected L98. What say you? Can I get a little help from my L98 brothers! |

Sure. Underneath the Star Wars inspired intake is a good old gen 1 small block Chevy with real valve covers.

Ah, hell, neither one would bother me. You just do whatever it takes. Intake vs opti, so what?
Teched a Nissan GTR at the racetrack last month. You can't even see the engine with the hood open. |

Dont blame ya I hated working on mine, nothing about it seems pleasant or easy too much crap in the way and with a TPI its a puzzle, has to go back together in a certain order otherwise youll be tearing it down yet again to go back and get it right. Sure spoiled with carbs, 10 min 8 bolts and its out. |

Every engine/vehicle has its pros/cons. The fuel pump is the easiest thing in the world to change on our vettes. Most cars you have to drop the tank. I hate working on vans like my neighbor's E150...there's no room under the hood. The clamshell on the vettes makes it easy to get to 99% of the components under the hood. Granted, it's a nuisance pulling off the runners to fix things, but once you've practiced a few times it goes quite fast.

Yea, really. It's just a matter of how long it takes. Some things easy, some not. I remember Rick talking about a timing belt on one of those little Dodges last month. Yea, everything's easier after you've done it a few times. Opti doesn't bother me, an hour and 20 to pull it. #8 plug is 5 min. after you figure it out. If you want to gain a perspective, do a frame off with a lot of rusty parts. |

It's not like it's any fun working on C-3's with those huge fenders all in your way!
I haven't ever owned an LS Vette so I have nothing for comparison. |
