Many would think that the deadliest and most dangerous roads to drive on are the big and busy highways with a lot of lanes. However, according to the U.S. General Accounting Office, in 2005, 61% of those killed in auto accidents were driving on rural, two-lane byways.
Forbes, went on a hunt to find out more about the problem before they turned up with the 2005 data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System, the most recent available, to check if any improvements had been made in recent years. In the end, nine roads, none of them major highways, stood out. Topping the list is U.S. Route 19 in Florida, which accounted for 38 deaths in 2005, followed by Highway 74 which accounted for 31 fatalities. Both are currently under construction to become safer. Click through for the list of the Top 9 Deadliest Roads in America. If you had your hopes up after hearing rumors that the production Chevrolet Camaro will make its debut at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, you’ll be pretty disappointed after reading this. The folks at Chevy are saying that you won’t find the production Camaro at any auto shows until a year from now.
One reason is that the coupe and convertible concept have already made their major auto show within the past two years, and now it’s time for the smaller markets, like Cleveland and Philadelphia, to get their peek at local car shows. Also there aren’t any pre-production cars built to travel auto shows in the country as of yet. Insiders at Chevy fear that the production Camaro will lose appeal by the time it hit roads. Basically, they think that if you show too much of a car before it actually hits the dealerships, you risk having it look old and outdated. Rumor has it that launch dates for the production Camaro coupe are February 16th, 2009 while the Camaro convertible will hit the roads on December 7th, 2009. http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/01/21/ ... jor-auto-shows-this-year/

The automotive world waited what seemed like forever to get its first look at the 2009 Corvette ZR1, but one lucky bidder won't have to wait any longer to get into the driver's seat. The "first retailable unit built" ZR1 was snapped up with a final bid of $1,000,000, not including auction fees. The winning bidder, Dave Ressler, also bought the oldest available 1953 Corvette just a couple years ago at Barrett-Jackson for the exact same price. While the ZR1 on stage was not the actual one purchase, Ressler will get a one-of-one Le Mans blue version that no one else will get. All of the proceeds from the sale benefited The United Way, and everything over the $99,999 list price of the ZR1 will be tax deductible. Not a bad way to spend a million bucks!

Holy Moly them things are expensive. Do any other cars carry the same set up that would bolt up? I want to do this but at 100 bucks for one side its a bit out of reach for me right now.

Your talking the power window regulator? I want to do that, the PS already had it done and I would love to do it to the drivers side as I go into a military base all the time and putting up and down the window is like watching poop slide down a small hill

I have lots of Mid-ohio footage, it's a much more interesting track but I didn't have a microphone so there's no sound other than wind noise. I'll see what I can come up with.
Thanks for the comments, gents. Oh, and how many watched until the end when I got owned by the 911T?

Its around 20 after 11 here in eastern Pennsylvania a and its still 25 degrees. Wish Casey could share some of that southern hemisphere heat!I'm about 4 cups into this day and need to get moving. The South Jersey and southeastern Pa guys from that other forum are meeting for lunch at one of the member's pizza joints in Nj. Its supposed to be a" Take your Wife to lunch" thing but I can't get Patti to budge out of the Warm robe sitting next to the fireplace. Might have to go myself unless I get guilted into helping with the house work.....I really need to do the c5 brake conversion. I have all of the parts.....the garage is effin' cold though.
Have a great day folks

We'll get the warmer weather tomorrow.
Sunny and 10 degrees right now. Supposed to get up to 35. Gonna change the oil and grease the fittings on the family truckster and the daughter's car today. Might wash some of the salt off, if it does warm up.

Head alignment. The tapes you are using were probably made on a machine that the alignment was slightly out. OR you heads are slightly out.
Try recording on one of the machines in question then playing it back on the same machine, see if the problems persist. It takes very little for heads to be out. Also, take the receiver out of the equation. That may not be passing video effectively. When was the last time you cleaned the heads? A little rubbing alchol and a Qtip will do it.

Especially on cars like coupes, hardtops and convertibles, the doors tend to turn into real pieces of crap as the car ages. At some point, just plan on replacing every wear item inside. On your car, it wouldn't be a bad idea to update to the later regulator design too. There's not much to it, I'm told. A friend of mine did it on an '86 and said it was no big deal. They're a better design, faster and much more trouble-free.

I've recently rebuilt/upgraded my transmission. Some of you have
probably seen my thread on CF but I thought I'll post it here anyway along with some questions on a few issues that I still haven't solved. Anyway, here is a short version; Parts list that I've ordered through PeteK according to his suggestions: Alto red clutch kit Beast reaction shell Kevlar band Clevite bushing kit govenor gear govenor retaining clip thrust washer and selective endplay washer kit front seal retainer reverse piston orifice 3 accu pistons lock up solenoid 29 element sprag low roller clutch accu springs new pump vanes hardened pump rings and slide spring kit lock up connector filter transgo 700 2&3 shift kit transgo separator plate .471 boost valve oring style lo/rev boost valve vette servo kit 4th wot upshift valve I have also added trans cooler and 9,5" 2800 stall TC. Here are some pics of project progress: -tranny and TC removed]http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c4/sliding1//skinuta_getriba.jpg[/img] -a few hours later -case cleaned and ready for reassembly -DIY compressor tool (needed for low/reverse clutch piston disassembly) -work on Lo/reverse assembly, pics, new parts, clutches...... -after lo/reverse assembly I started to work on input drum assembly: -new, stiffer springs from Trans-Go kit -presoaking new Red Alto frictions before reassembly -after input drum was over, work started on pump: -new, stiffer spring, and new pump vanes -all large assemblies ready to be installed back into tranny case: - befor I started to assemble things together, I did all work necessary on valve body. I took quite some time because of the mods necessary to convert it for stick shift operation -finally, I started to reassemble everything: -checking endplay -valve body back in place -place for drain plug/temp sensor -governor modified for stick shift operation -ready to go back up -while I was down there, I've installed new rear mail seal -cooler, TC, and cooler lines -tranny back on the car After ~1000miles here are my observations: 1-2 upshift- absolutely great, instant, with no delay when shift lever moved to 2, really quick and firm shift 2-3 upshift- same as 1-2 upshift 3-4 upshift- instant when lever moved to OD but not as firm as on 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts. If I try to upshift at wot above 500 rpm I have to let go off throttle to get shift. Below 5000, I have normal wot upshift. 4-3 downshift- instant when lever moved and if throttle blip applied, really smooth 3-2 downshift- same as 4-3 2-1 downshift- smooth but with little delay when lever pulled to 1 fully warmed 2-1 downshift with cold tranny, there is even more delay and it feels like I have pressed brake pedal before 1st gear engage Here is what is bugging me: 1. Why I dont have 3-4 wot upshift above 5000 rpm? 2. What can be causing 2-1 downshift delay? 3. When I start hard in 1st and if I let go off pedal I can hear loud squeel sound for a moment. That only happens if I let of throtle after hard start and in 1st. I f I continue to push and shift to 2nd, there is no sound. What could cause that? 4. What can cause that "no 1st engage" with cold 2-1 downshift? P.S. Did I say here is a short version in the begining?

Worn hinge pins and mis-aligned striker come first to mind.
From outside the car, watch as the door closes to see if it moves up when it latches.

I had 3 VHS units get screwed up this year. No pic or lines/fuzzy. Toshiba(old), Sony HiFi & Phillips HiFi (newer).
I thought the low humidy around here might be generating static on to the video head. I haven't looked around for a VHS demagnetizer yet. None of the tapes have been closer that 15 feet to a computer. I can unhook the vcr and take it out in the shop on that tv, no difference. The tracking buttons just move the lines around. I hooked the Phillips up in the shop and let it run for 45min. and the picture came back but not as sharp as it was.

I can't answer your question from experience but I plan to find out. For the many reasons I want them, the decision's already made. Just haven't spent the money yet. If you've never seen Mo Bandy's site, he has some great info about them on it.

I slept in good today, just finished my first cup. Gonna be a balmy 40 here today, but it isn't going to last. Projected high for Wednesday is 2
3 more weeks until we escape this crap for sunny Puerto Vallarta, and then only a couple weeks after we get back, I'm bringing the Vette home to start on all my projects.

Bet you are happy to have that on and done! As far as the fuel lines, I ended up cutting the stock fittings off, then bought little -6an nuts and sleeves. The nut slides on the metal fuel line, then the sleeve slides on, then you flare the line with a flaring tool. Very easy, just make sure the part of the fuel line you are flaring is cleaned really well. When done you end up with the female end of a -6an fitting on your steel line. You can buy a male to male -6an union to screw into it, then screw it to the female -6an end you put on your braided steel line, and you are all done. Certainly makes me more anxious to get it done.

Cold here, hoping to get my fuel lines off today. The garage is insulated and attached to the house, covered on all but one side. I have a heater. It's not bad at all.

No mate, only one unit at a time, i dont run all 4 units at once.
The Samsung combo unit is connected to the Sherwood receiver with S-Video for the DVD player side, and composite video for the VHS side, the lines out to the projector are 1 S-video and 1 composite, even when bypassing the Sherwood to have the composite connected dirrectly to the projector, there is no change, even if the Sherwood receiver is unplugged from the wall. No power drop offs, continuous supply at an even 243 volts AC. They are all only used one at a time, only one connected and powered up at a time, and when transmitting a broadcast signal, there is no issue with any of the units, all of them pick up the same channels, all transmit a clear enough image, but only one will play tapes in here (the Panasonic from the other room), and the tape i just watched was still flickering every 20-25 seconds or so thoughout the entire movie. Sound was perfect the whole time, only picture is the issue. Ive tried a few different known good cables i have here, the only thing that changed was the sharpness, so i went back to the Monster ive had for 10 years. Tried turning off the computer before starting anything else, didnt make any difference. Its not cables, its not connections, its not the tapes cause they work fine in the other room, its not making any bloody sense. The projectors are both Epson, the one in here is an EMP-S5, the one in the other room is an EMP-S4, damn near the exact same unit, S4 has 1,800 lumens and 500:1 contrast ratio, S5 has 2,000 lumens and a 400:1 contrast ratio. The S5 fitted in this room never ever misses a beat on anything else, so i dont think the issues lies within it.

Sunny Sunday morning here in the Nation's Capitol - Feels like 40-45 degrees. Nice day. I'm heading to Northern VA to help my sister move into a new house. The Navy already moved the heavy stuff so, I get to sit on the couch and watch TV with my BrotherInLaw and Dad while the gals arrange the kitchen stuff!

The "new" standard for fuel line size is said as 6an or 4an or 8an. 6an, written as -6, said as dash six, not minus six, is similar to 3/8" sae.

Well Alcee, put in a good word for all of us pagans. I'd love to see the Giants beat the Pats, but I doubt it too.
Ron, is that the perpetual El Camino project you're talking about? So where's it stand overall? I love those things.

So I get up this morning, turn on the TV - and what do I see?
The morning news guys...... Now, I watch these yo-yo's every day - so now I'm thinking "Where did Sunday go?". Did I sleep all weekend? After all, if they're on then it MUST be a weekday, right? I get up, shower and start to get ready for work....... But still, where's Sunday? I check my phone, it says it's Sunday...... But my morning guys are on...... Something's not right here....... Turns out it's a special (we have rain here, so storm watch stuff, etc...).... So - IT'S SUNDAY!!!!!! I didn't loose it afterall........ And for those who care, today is the ROYAL RUMBLE!!!

I can never make up my mind which system I like best on my car. I need two more Vettes so I can use them all. I'm currently running a custom set-up with Corsas out back. It sounds good and is very quiet inside the car at highway speeds. Certainly no complaints there. I also have a Power Effects system which I like. I love the look of it's tips, they're unique and very cool. It also has great sound and in fact I always got the most compliments about how bad-assed the car sounded when I was using it, especially at the track. It was okay on the highway too, but did have a bit of resonance around town, even with the mufflers on the quietest setting. Not unbearable or constant though.
I also have a modified stock LTx system with an X-pipe in place of the resonator. It's the quietest of course but still has a great sound, just more subdued. Lots of folks have told me it sounds really good too, and I agree. Ahead of this I have long tubes and high flow cats. And I'm just as bad about headers. I currently have two sets, the SWs I'm using and a set of DRMs that I've used in the past. Both stainless, both top quality, both keepers. But now I want to try a set of those 4-2-1 headers. Is there like a support group or something for folks who are addicted to exhaust modifications?

What causes a door to rattle? Sounds like a hammer when I hit a bump down the road and its been doing this ever since I owned it. I really never thought about asking about it until today. I looked for signs of rubbing a few months ago and I think I will post pictures of that latter today if I get a chance.

Its been raining like crazy here, but im up, got my coffee and heres my 2 bits. Its sunday and like every other sunday im going to church, I sing on the praise team so thats what i'll be doing this morning. When I get home i'll spend some time in the garage. Every since I fixed that short and a few other things with the C4 its been running great (im loving it). Havent been driving the C5 much but I plan on putting it in the shop soon for some custom body work and graphics, got to get it ready for the next car show season. Heres a thought, wouldn't be something for the patriots to win all season and loose the superbowl they probably won't but wouldn't be something. Enjoy your java. :thumbright:

How do you have this hooked up?
Cascaded (one VHS to the next), switch boxed?, etc.... You might be having a signal loss problem. I would take each player to a stand alone mode. Find out if the problem is with the player first. Also, are you having any drop's in power? Basically, prove the components good, then build then in 1 at a time to find the problem.....

Sorry to hear that, I was
one of the ones who changed the washers and got positive results. Keep looking, you'll find it. I had a noise in the differential of my '98 GMC 4X4 that I chased for 4 years before I finally found it.

Twas cold here too. Woke up to frost covering everything out side. You know, my vette runs like poo on a cold morning. Partly cause of the carb and the other part is my shifter, dont like to shift right in the cold. Once it gets warmed up it shifts like a wet dream though. Mine's still injected so no worries there. Of course I wouldn't romp it until the oil's nice and warm. But it gets a head start. I have an oil pan heater that I plug in and is on a timer. It comes on about 2:00 AM. I want to add a coolant heater too.

[ Thanks everyone! The lower rear is .600 diameter and we can use a 15mm Heim that is .591. Obviously, there are 2 choices , either turn .005 off of the radius (about a 5 minute job on my 1962 LeBlond lathe. This is another story, this thing is huge, like 2500 pounds, and I bought it last year in like new condition with tons of accessories for $3k from a shop that replaced it with a CNC lathe!) or have the CNC shop above make new ones out of 17-4 PH SS. The question I have is: is this part still available from GM? The other mounts are common to C4, C5, C6 so it gives us some economy of scale.

After all, doesn't the IRS contact everyone by email now? And I'm sure I've made sure to send them my email address at some point. I wouldn't want the invasive bastards to be lacking in any minute detail of my life or personal business. Anyone else gotten an email like this?

Or if you prefer, cappuccino like I'm drinking. It's a beautiful but chilly morning, 35 degrees here. I'll go out and get a fire going in the shop in a little bit. Before long it'll be nice in there and I'll get a couple of things done on the Vette. Who knows, I might even clean up the place a little. But in the meantime, lets enjoy our java and chat. :thumbleft:

Good stuff. It definitely doesn't need music, it's already got eight cylinders of it!
