In researching the supercharger thing it looks tempting but seems to have its own dark side and complexities that may not be worth it (to me) for a daily driver..... unless I see some info to the contrary, supercharging a vette might be good for a weekend warrior... not a DD..... Although I certainly believe it can be done successfully, that's kind of the conclusion I came to too. My choice although would have been turbocharging and I did consider it. But done correctly, these things get ultra-expensive. It costs way beyond the price of a given "kit" to do it right.

Bleed them properly (with car off) and ensure that pedal is rock hard. Also make sure the booster pushrod is adjusted properly so you don't have any extra play in the pedal.

There are complexities and attention to detail is a must, but any car can be a good supercharged daily driver. In fact, most supercharged street cars are more tame for the street than unsupercharged cars making similar power. Although not a vette, I have 2 friends with a superchargers on Cobras. The one car is EXACTLY like stock when idling and cruising, yet he runs 11.28 at 121 in the 1/4 mile. It is a Kenne Bell. The other has a whistle while idling but otherwise seems like stock. It is a vortech S trim, and he has run 11.34 at 130. Very traction limited. Both are sticks. Both could be in the 10's easily without much more modifications. The one with the Kenne Bell is bone stock other than the supercharger, it still has the stock exhaust and all. I don't know anyone with a vette to compare to, but I know that supercharging can result in a very fast car that is very much able to be a daily driver. I think it is all about the tune.
Also, Notorious put a post up about his combo. If I were in your shoes and I wasn't going to supercharge, I'd let him be my teacher.

I dunno, but going to all that work then sticking a plastic engine cover under it sickens me.
Toss that in the garbage and give me something to look at! I presume it uses some type of roots blower setup? Or is it centrifugal?

Well, it has the beige interior, auto (not easy to find a six speed), stock everything right now. According to the RPO codes it is supposed to have a solid top but mine has a clear blue one. My wife is not too excited about it but my two boys are. I got rid of the goat before my oldest was born so this is deep in the cool zone for them, me too. As cool as the old cars are, and I'm certainly not ragging on them, they're just not as driver friendly as a fairly modern Corvette. At least not without a lot of work as in a pro-touring update or something. When I bought my Vette 5 years ago, I already owned a pretty nice 1970 340 Cuda with a stout engine, new interior and very solid body. As cool as it was, I basically just lost interest in it. I finally sold it a couple of years ago. Plus, given the market on '70 Cudas over the last few years, I turned a nice profit on it, nearly doubling my investment.

All cults seem nice and wholesome until you get behind the scenes. I guess its natural to get turned away if you're exposed to the advanced brainwashing sessions too early on. I could mention a few other cults, but we probably have members in them.

Sorry, been gone a few days, trying to catch up on everything is getting harder and harder as this place grows!
Quote: With all other factors being equal and assuming the ambient temperature is 80 degrees, does it take the same amount of energy to raise room temperature from 70 degrees to 90 degrees as it would to lower it from 90 degrees to 70? Yes, all things being equal. Although in reality heating and cooling use different forms of fuel and work at different efficiencies, and cost different rates. Quote:
If it's perfectly insulated, then yes. But if its perfectly insulated, ambient outdoor temp doesn't matter anyways. If it's 80F outside, and you have a poorly insulated building, or windows open, you can cool it from 90 to 80F for free, whereas going from 80F to 90F would cost some energy. Quote: And lastly, would the energy need be different if the ambient temp in the above exercise was lower or higher i.e. 50 degrees and going up to 60 or down to 40 or 100 degrees and going up to 110 or down to 90? Nope, same thing. To summarize, you're correct to focus on temperature difference driving heat transfer, but there's also way more to it than that. Most buildings, in the southwest at least, where the cold and hot seasons can be about the same temp difference from indoors, have more air conditioning than heating ability. This is because the buildings are constantly being heated from things that have nothing to do with temperature difference, such as solar loads (radiation) from the sun, thermal mass storage (concrete walls feeling cool in the day, and warm at night), internal heat loads (people, appliances), and then you've got air infiltration or ventilation, where you're getting some outdoor air entering the room directly. This can add or remove heat. The other trick, is it's easy to heat because a typical gas fired heat exchanger can put out really toasty air. A refrigerant cooling coil though, can only go so cold before it freezes the moisture in the air. So for the same amount of heating/cooling, you need more air through the cooling coil because the coil may be only 30F colder than room temp, while the gas heat exchanger in your furnace can be really fucking hot. Now this is only talking about sensible heat transfer. In commercial buildings, and residential in some climates, you have to consider latent heat, which is basically the amount of moisture/humidity in the air. If I'm in Florida, and it's 75% humidity in the morning, I can't just bring cool ventilation air in to my building to keep the workers happy. I'd have to run my air conditioner to condense moisture out of the air, and then maybe even reheat it to get it back to a comfortable temp. Sort of like how the defroster works on your car. Removing moisture costs a ton of energy. A 4-ton air conditioner might only actually do 2.5 tons of sensible cooling in a really humid area. That's when the owner sues the contractor and hire us to redesign it.

Does anyone know where (if) GM stamped or otherwise put the Job Number on the C4s. I have a C5 as well and I found the job number on that. I just was wondering if it was on the car somewhere I can retrieve it.
Thanks.

Thanks for the inspiration.
I'll chronicle my entire garage build on here. I have the money, just need to get off my ass and complete the design. That's the hardest part, because it entails dealing with the bastards at the planning dept and holds everything up.

It sounds as though the light wasn't properly recycled when the oil was changed. I would expect there is a procedure for turning the light off in your owner's manual. If not, I'm sure it is in your HERE. I would post it if I knew it, but with my '84, I have to do it the old fashioned way.

I'm with you guys...I'm ok with simple questions (how do I change my oil?) as that person wants to learn and hopefully the next project will be bigger and badder.
But hate lazy questions (what's the diameter of my stock rotor?) that guy just wants someone to do work for him. But most of all, I hate people who ask questions and insinuate that they care about the performance aspect of a modification or product, but really want to look cool. I'm fine with mods for appearance, but PLEASE admit that's what you're going for so I can offer useful advice to you. IME The most common area for this is brakes. If you want cross drilled rotors because they look cool, great. I agree, they look cool. But if you ask me what will stop better, and I tell you solid rotors and spend 15 minutes explaining why, and you go buy the cross drilled ones anyway, then you've wasted my time when I was genuinely trying to help you. If someone really wants to know, I'll spend as much time as it takes to tell them as much information as I can. But if they're just looking for justification that the airfoil they bought was a good use of money then go away. That's the main reason I don't post as much as I used to over there. However, I'm trying to be more a bit helpful over here...

The oil life monitor must be reset every time you change the oil. Otherwise, as you have found out it could come on way before the next oil change is due.
1. Turn the key to the "ON" position, but don't start the engine. 2. Press the ENG/MET button on the Trip Monitor and release it. Then, within five seconds, press and release the ENG/MET button again. 3. Within five seconds, of Step 2 1990 รขโฌโ 1991 , press and hold the RANGE button on the Trip Monitor. 1992 -1996 , Press and hold the GAUGES button on the Trip Monitor. 4. The CHANGE OIL light will flash. 5. Hold the RANGE or GAUGES button until the CHANGE OIL light stops flashing and goes out. When the light goes out, the Engine Oil Life Monitor is reset. This should take about ten seconds. If it doesn't reset, turn the ignition "OFF" and repeat the procedure.

From the new movies, it's hard to pick because most of them suck.
I'd recommend Sweeny Todd, with johnny depp in it. Violent/creative/musical type movie. Very well composed. Great for a date (not first date tho), or with friends, but not for young children.

What are the benefits of this over Craig Moates "ostrich" setup? That one basically converts the ECM into a real-time flash-type setup.

I'll put some pics up of mine later. 10' single, with washer/dryer/waterheater, and Still have plenty of room to park and wrench on my car or truck, full set of tools, air compressor, workbench, and all my boxes of parts and car crap.

On the way home from school today my "Change Oil" light came on. The oil was just changed not even 800 miles ago so I know it's not old. Is this light a "timed" light or does something else set it off? How do I turn it off?
