I wanted to introduce myself as a new member to the site.
A former c6 owner and now an owner of a 1994 LT-1. The C4 is surprisingly a much better car than I imagined it would be. Here is what it looked like the day I brought it home. And after a little tender love and care here it is today. I have been on the other corvette forums but was pointed to this one as a great resource fr C4 info. My future plans are head/cam and longtube headers. I don't need or want anything extreme but mostly I love the sound of these LT engines. |

Sharp look'n car! Is it a 6spd or auto? You may want to consider a brake upgrade... those little 12" rotors look soooo tiny in the wheels! Welcome!!! |

I'm back!
I was confused as to why I could not log on! Thanks for the warm welcome. I am located in Asheville, NC and the car is a 6 spd. I have always loved the black halo's and I never got around to doing it on the C6 but I am glad I did it to this car. I took the seats out this weekend because they needed recovering. They were really the only defect on the car when I bought it. Somebody suggested I upgrade the brakes and that is next on my to do list. I looked in to the c5 brake upgrade but I'm not sure if they fit with the 17" gs wheels. If they don't fit, what do you guys recommend? I know almost everybody has A-molds but I think they fit these cars perfect and I want to keep these rims. I appreciate the help and thanks again for the welcome. |

The C5 upgrade will fit behind the GS wheels, but if you already have the J55 option you won't see much of a difference. Welcome back.

Yay! Got my little plea for help! Yea... C5 upgrade won't get you much over the J55. Do some killer pads and slotted cryo rotors like I did and you will watch the fillings get pulled out of your molars... I ended up with Hawk autocross pads. Very aggressive, noisy as hell... The guy with Stoptech recommended their pad, just as good, but without the noise and dust. I don't remember the number, tho. The 1996 GS brakes are the best evolution of the C4 brake... but not worth the $$ from J55. But they are anodized black and have the word "CORVETTE" cast in; hence, they look badass. |

Yes the C5 Brakes will fit GS wheels as many stated here..
I had them on my 89 with GS wheels and my 90, when my 90 had GS wheels.. While I liked the red wheels, I think the all black wheels with the black halo look very good |

Welcome, very nice ride.
It is clamed that C5 brakes work better than C4 brakes because of the C5's increased pad area. IMHO it is because the C5 calipers have a larger piston diameter of 1.62" compared to the C4's 1.5". C5 calipers = a change in the front hydraulic ratio that provides more pad pressure for a given pedal pressure. You can acheive similar results using an eariler year master cylinder with a smaller bore size. Your master cyl = 15/16". 88-91 master cylinder 7/8". While the master cylinder is off the vehicle suggest a DRM brake bias spring be installed it will improve rear brake performance. If you require statistical data on the hydraulic ratio changes I'll pull it off my shop computer. |

No statistical data required on my end. Good advise. The previous owner already tracked the car and has very good brake pads on there. They are amazingly noisy and they will coat my wheels with brake dust extremely quickly. The car does stop well, but I have not been able to track it yet. I will be putting the slotted rotors on for sure because the rotors need to be replaced badly. |

Glad you're back.
Yea, the C5 upgrade won't give you that much more. Brake pads are a compromise if you want to track the car occasionally. Hawk HPS - nice and quiet, minimal dust, big improvement over stock pads. Hawk + - noisy, takes longer to warm them up, but still good pads. CarboTech - XP10 front and XP8 rear - very good pads but pricy. With all that - on the track - I run the Hawk HPS (High Performance Street) pads. The track drivers complain about these pads, they also complain about high wear rates on both pads and rotors. The reason they complain is that they overuse their brake constantly - they all do it. I'm going into year 5 on ONE set of HPS using the old stock rotors. But I've been doing this a long time. |

Welcome back, again!
How do you intend on using the car? Street, autocross, track events? A change of pads and some brake ducts may be all that you need. Got to watch changes though if you're doing things like autocrossing. |

I want to track it but realistically, I will probably spend most of my time autox because it is close and convenient. The closest track to me is Carolina Motorsports Park about 3 hours away. I hope to get down there for some driving days. The previous owner Autox this car. He felt the need for slicks which I am replacing with Kumho xs in the next couple of days. Also you can notice they were Z-r1 wheels (the first pic shows the wrong offset) and I switched out the rears for the GS wheels to bring he tires in. He "upgraded" the suspension and disconnected/removed the fx3 shock system. I'm not sure how he got around the warning light, but I'm assuming he pulled a fuse. It rides worse than my Hummer H1. It appears he replaced them with billstiens. He also put a larger sway bar on so even though it rides like a dump truck it handles pretty good as long as the road is nice and smooth. It has an aftermarket shift knob but unfortunately no short throw kit... Everything else seems to be in good shape. It needed a good cleaning oh and I forgot some new U-joints. Every day is progress. I bought it for a fun ride to autox and to make into somewhat of a track car if I can find the time to get to some track days. I always wanted to track my C6 but I was in college and never got around to it. |

Cool, nice to see another autocrosser
Who do you run with SCCA? NCCC? Get a rule book and study it before you do anything else. For instance, the bigger wheels already put you into SCCA Street Prepared. |

Nice H1, too! Always preferred the look of the H1, but I've driven the H2 and it is very comfortable. Typical GM build quality, though. Matthew |

Ha ha Talk about build quality. That is the downfall of the H1. They took a military truck and screwed interior pieces on with self taping screws right into the doors. Every couple thousand miles, you have to go around and tighten everything up. The bolts holding the brake rotors to the differential are also known for backing out and jaming in the brake caliper. To Am generals defense, these trucks were never meant to be driven daily with a full interior. |

It wasn't a long drive... found the ride quality on par with the Corvette, but it was about as loud as being inside a blender. I must admit, it was fun, tho! Not something I would own, but an experience I won't ever forget... With that, a thanks to my friend Ray for letting me drive it! |
