I keep a log of all the work I do to my vette on my computer with prices, part numbers etc, and decided to add it up. In 3 years I spent a total or $21k on my vette. I don't know if I should be happy or depressed!
How much have you guys put into your vette over the years?

Buying them was costly enough. Maintaining and repairing 2 Porsche 911s and 2 C4 Corvettes has cost us more than cuisinart wants for his ZR1. That's just the past 2 years. I hate to think about it. I could easily spend another 10 to 20 thousand without even trying. Don't look back ....... If I do, I'll forget about how much fun I'm having.

A big chunk of the money was for the engine rebuild and interior restoration. It's depressing to think I'll never get that money back!

Putting 20000 miles a year on a 13 year old vette can get costly. Seems that there is always something I'm working on.
Haven't kept a log but I'm sure its getting up there. Only dealer work was the first oil change and that was traumatic.

Instead of "How much have you invested?" it should read How much have you pissed away?

Exactly right!

Counting the purchase price, I've got about $14k in my 87 in the last 1.5 years.

Oh boy, once your upside down and have spent more than it's worth why bother counting ? This year I bought a solid targa $330.00 on Ebay, it shows up cracked so after fixing the crack and painting it it was a $730.00 targa. Then the headliner started to sag, so $50.00 later for materials and glue it was a $780.00 targa. I noticed the A pillar and windshield weatherstripping wasn't jiving with the new targa so I bought that as well which was $103.00 with shipping so I then had a $883.00 targa.

I don't invest in it. I spend money on it to make me smile when I go to the road course or down some back country road at a higher than published speed.

Spending money on hookers is a better investment.
You still get to drive your torque monster and feel like you pissed your money away afterwards anyways.

Yep. Like I tell my wife, could be worse I could be giving it away $1 at a time at the titty bar.

It's a hobby. Hobbies take money

I just figured out that with the expense of maintenance on my boat, it cost be about $500 per use.

Now that's a waste...

I paid about $6700 and have less than $1000 spent over the last 3 years. I would have to say I am pleased, but a hotcam and headers would be nice.

Radiator: $200
Door Panels: $100
Rear Carpet: $75
Console lid: $30
Iggees: $gift
CAGS elim: $gift
Exhaust: $150
Claw: $80
MAF: $35

thats it other than gas, oil changes, and a fuel filter. over 2 years.

$7300 was the purchase price.

Don't look at the "what does your vette need" thread.

Including performance mods, I figure I need about another 30k. Minus performance I need about 8k to get it back to showroom beautiful. But hey.. I wanna go fast :P

Hi All,

Yeah, we all dump alot of money in our vettes. But thats just another reason to keep them and drive and enjoy. They will eventually go up in value and we will get it back.
I have about 9 or 10k in my 86. Thats including the car, paint, interior, weatherstriping, wheels etc. I wanted to restore this car with minimal investment. But, I invested alot of my time and muscle. Just be happy that we do not have an 800.00 a month car payment on these cars.

I don't know nor do I want to know. But just figuring loosely in my head I'm sure it's easily over $25K, including purchase, and probably closer to $30K If I figure in a rather substantial parts inventory too. All of this for a POS, modified car that might be worth $8K on a good day. Yeah it's a good reliable car but it has a multitude of stupid, little things that need fixed and could definitely still stand a paint job. The upside is that's approaching 50K miles of good, reliable service that it's given to me in addition to the 81K miles it had on it when I bought it. And it's never left me stranded (yet) and is a blast when I stab the fun pedal. It should be, I've got an easy $8K in the engine alone.

Spent about 6k on it since Ive had it .3k in work it needed, 3k in stuff (while Im at its) I wanted. 18k total which is about or real close to its worth. Doesnt matter though if it mkes you happy when you hop in it. If I was in a better spot Id dump another 5k in it and not think twice about it. By the time its worth anything Ill be dead or too old to care.
