I figured I'd share with my Guru family since you guys are all very close to me now. Yesterday morning my father had a heart attack at the age of 56. Luckily he was right next to my mom and realized what was going on. She took him to the hospital and the doctors were able to do an emergency angiogram/angioplasty and inserted a stent. He's gonna be fine, but in the hospital for a few more days. I'll be heading there this weekend for a few days to help out and get things situated. We dodged a big bullet this time. I might be on a lot if I have free time, or I might be on very little due to this. Not sure yet. So if you don't see me around that's why.

I think this is a good reminder for people to take care of themselves, eat right, and throw some exercise in there every now and then. I hope for my folks this is the wake up call to be better with their own lifestyles.

Thanks for listening and everyone out there take care of themselves!

Matthew

Matthew,

Prayers are sent for a full and speedy recovery. I'm so glad he's going to be ok. Thank goodness your Mom was there and got him quick medical attention..

Sorry to hear about this Matt. Was he getting regular checkups before the incident? Don't forget, my brother had a heart attack at 44 and he died from it. Get well soon wishes to your dad.

We will be praying for you and your family and am thankful that it was caught in time. It is very important to stay on top of your health when you hit 50 and up. Doctors have some great diagnostic tools these days and we all need to be using them. Hang in there Matthew!

Good Luck Matthew. I lost my father when I was 7 from one.

But today's medicine is so much better.
The guy who had the raceshop I was in had one at 62. Since then he's been able to renew his race license (which requires quite a bit when you have a heart attack). He works out, does all kinds of physical stuff, like rackette ball. He leads a very normal life.
Hope it's the same for your dad.

Sorry to hear Matt.
Might be one of those blessings in disguise?

However, I'm 52, and I don't know that I'd see a heart attack as any sort of blessing, disguise or not!

All the best to your Dad. I know how stressful it can be to have an ill parent... very!

Remember - take your own advise, take care of yourself! If you get sick right now, that won't help anyone!

I am glad it was minor; and yes, these are blessings in disguise. A co-worker (this is over 15 years ago) had a SEVERE heart attack. He was all of about 42 or so. Darryl was a smoker and a drinker and ate anything that moved... was overweight and didn't seem to care to change.

He had this heart attack and it really messed him up. He survived, but at a high price. His heart was damaged and he was placed on a transplant list.

He lost a ton of weight, quit smoking and drinking, ate healthier and got into something that resembled shape.

About 3 years after, he had another attack... and all recourses were gone. He died. He was 46.

So yes, this is a blessing. Matt's Dad had a wake up call and will be fine from it...

Thanks all for the kinds words. Dad was released from the hospital today. He has a checkup in about 2 weeks. Right now they've got him on 6 of 7 different meds, but those should narrow down in the upcoming months. I'm gonna go have to kick his butt when I get there this weekend and pound some sense into him about a diet and exercise routine.

One day at a time!

Good to hear he is back home. I survived a heart attack several years ago, then surviving the idiot cardiologists was almost as bad. Good thing I have a good family doctor.
Hope he continues to get better, it is a scarey experience.

Wow, this one totally went by me. Hope for full and speedy recovery for your dad!
Seems like this was a mild one, at least I hope so.
Since I know you speak German, we got a saying that sums it up pretty good, ”die beste Krankheit taugt nichts“

Update:

Dad is doing well. He is able to move around and be mobile, just not overly active and can't lift more than 5 lbs per doctor's orders. He has to take an extra nap during the day due to being more tired than usual, but that should go away later. Today we ran around and did a few errands with no apparent problems. One day at a time.

Axel - thanks for the well wishes. Let me know when you're ready for your parts. Danke!
