Besides wrenching on your 'Vette? My other main hobby is internet music collaboration (I play keys, hence the moniker), which I discovered about 8 years ago. I don't have any desire to put in the time to be in a band, so this is the next best thing. I've had a lot of fun with it, getting to play with people from all over the world, lots of different genres. And a bunch of folks from the collab site meet up every year for a weekend - I'll be driving the 'Vette out to Pennsylvania next summer for that. Here's a sample, a cover of an old Babys tune I did with a friend from California - I played keys, and he did all the rest:

http://www.bradprestonmusic.com/Music/BackOnMyFeetAgain.mp3

Besides music, I wrestle with my miserable golf game, and have a seemingly endless list of home-improvement project to work on. I enjoy working in the yard, though one of the benefits of living in MN is 6 months of no yard work. Here's a pic of the perennial garden:

http://bradprestonmusic.com/Photos/Garden2006/Garden3.jpg

which looks about like this now:

Scuba dive, car shows and auctions, enjoy my Labrador and the luxury of not having to fix cars every day. It's a lot more fun as a hobby than it is to earn a living.

My wife Karen is my regular dive buddy, we are diving tomorrow morning here in Boynton. PM and we will get together some time.
We used to dive with Pura Vida a lot out of West Palm but lately have been using Starfish in Lantana because they are close.

Well, when I am not on here or fixing up the vette I am either playing with my kids or playing with my Arcade games and fixing one of the cabinets so it will work again. I also been meaning to tinker with the go kart thats been down and out for over a year now. And when I get enough money I do home improvements, speaking of which my next project will be getting underway in about 2 months. I will be remodeling my kitchen from floor to ceiling (no joke). My house is old and it needs leveling and with that I have to have the ceilings drywall removed and replaced.

The only two other things I like to do beside my Vette obsession is to participate in a number of shooting sports which includes both handguns and long-guns. I also was very into riding bicycles last year and did a 100 mile century around Lake Tahoe. I'd like to do that again.

I haven't been riding since August and probably just as long as that for shooting. Maryland is just not a very gun friendly state and there are just not that many places you can go to shoot that are convenient.

Cheers

What is this spare time of which you speak?

Work around the house.
Work on the cars.
Work on the boat.
Work on not doing any work.
Then of course there's work.

Well, I make cheezy TV commercials for a living, then do longer format video projects on the side so I can afford nice things for me and my family. I got in a little trouble with debit many years ago, so now, if I don't have cash, I don't buy it. Therefore, a lot of my time is spent working.

I sporadically spend lots of time playing video games. I just got a Playstation 3, so that has been eating up many of my nights. But once the newness has worn off, there may be months where I don't even turn it on. Although Grand Turismo 5 is due out soon, so there goes my year....

I used to ride dirt bikes, but now I don't
I used to ride street bikes, but now I don't
I used to shoot, but now I don't

I am playing music with some friends. Two of us are pretty good. One member of the band is not too good, but very enthusiastic... Really sounds awful sometimes though.

I'm pretty much in the same boat with you. If I don't have cash to buy it, I don't. Everything for my motor build up has been a horse trade or hard saved cash. I still need about another couple grand to do the dif. and trans stuff I want to!!

Oh yeh -- Shoting and riding bikes is essentially a thing of the past with the upcoming purchase of a house to keep wifey happy!!!

Brad, nice tune...too bad you don't live closer, my buddy just canned his keyboard player. Although he's more of an "indie rocker" type. He writes and performs all of his songs on the albums, but of course has to have others help when he has a gig. Good stuff.

I play hockey and soccer (both poorly) and drink a lot of Guinness with my posse; yeah, that's right, my posse. I do live just off 8 Mile, yo! On a less publicized street called 10 Mile. We are creative with our street names here in the D.

Any cash that does not go into the vette goes to travel, I've been to 26 countries in 4 continents (both for work and liesure) and have many more to go. Although last year's annual trip didn't happen for various reasons, so the last good one was Russia and Estonia in 2006.

This is what I like to do when relaxing. I bought one like this about 3 years ago. (Will have to take a picture of mine). Put satellite tv on it and it is air conditioned and heated. Going to have the back of it closed in and extend the top back. Lots of fun and partying in the summer.

I build race cars, drive racecars, and teach high preformance driving.
If I'm not doing that I ride dirt bikes and drive a 125 shifter kart.
If it's snowing, I ski at Tahoe (15 minute drive). I've actually skied in the a.m. and riden dirtbikes in the afternoon.

But mostly, I drink beer.

Spec, My last closed wheel was in 2004, the 25hour endurance race at ThunderHill ia a Miata (I was asked to drive, it was a free rdie).
I also did some testing in a vintage Nascar last year.
I only drive the C4 as an instructor, lead/follow with the novices.

All this came to a grinding halt this year. I decided to take some time off and work on my house so I can sell it. I was working in a private raceshop, 2500 sq ft, car lift, spotlessly clean, etc. and couldn't stand going back to my 2 car garage that's so crammed, I have to walk sideways to get by the C4.
I'm planning on anouther house with a 2 car and a 30 x 50 shop but have to wait on the housing market for a while.

The only thing I've driven lately is my 12 shifterkart.
It's driving me nuts.

So is there as much nirvana in a Kart as in a car? I've done many days in the local kart track, and while it's fun, I don't get the rush. Maybe it's because I can't die, maybe it's because it's much slower, maybe it's because there's no elevation. But every time I spend 8 hours 3 days in a row struggling under my C4 and wonder WTF I'm doing, I line up in pit lane at a real track and my heart rate reminds me...

Unfortunately my budget still has me in a C4 vs. C5 and C6's, but I'm taking the fight to them (along with the rest of Spectator Racing) and plan to do quite well this season.

...Both on track and in the pits with the beer drinking contest

Hey Spec, First of all, what kind of kart were you driving? Most karts are not as fast or fun as a car, right up until you run a 125 shifter. My 125 has about 40 HP and weighs 385 with the driver. 0 to 60 times are under 4 sec.
If you regear it for the big tracks (willow Springs, ect.) it will top out at close to 130 mph. Also a 125 is the only kart with front brakes, makes a big difference.

I sold my roadracer 2 years ago. It was a full bodied 100cc single speed.
This kart ran 115 on the straight at ThunderHill and ran laptimes of 2:02 which is about what a C6Z will run.
I wish I could post a pic directly from my computer, I keep screwing it up.

If you really want your mind blown, the unlimited roadrace karts were one of the scaryest things I've ever seen. They really don't run these anymore.
Most were custom built. The 300cc max., twin cylinder Rotax engines put out 110hp and weight with driver was 485. One of these held the track record at SearsPoint for some years until the IMSA GTP cars showed up.
These guys had $25,000 in these karts.

The costs and the danger are what got me out and into openwheel. But I did run the big tracks for 10 years and won 5 championships.
My 125 just got too expensive to run on the short (sprint) tracks. In 125, guys are getting new chassis every 2 years min. $5,500. I bought a 2000 Honda 125 engine. The cost of the engine, motormount, carb and exhaust was $5,000 and wasn't competitive because it needed a $800 blueprint and the new digital ignition $500 that the front runners were running. On top of that, a set of tires is $220 and they only last 25 laps (one race). This was just for the local Reno club races.
So, I bought a Formula Ford with all the spares for $10,500, one hell of a lot safer.

I keep the 125 because you can join the Reno kart club for $250. This gets you a key to the gate, you can drive anytime. The track's one of the best on the west coast, I know because I ran the bulldozers and backhoes to build it. The track's 3/8th mile, 12 turns with elevation changes.

Come on out, I'll let you drive the shifterkart. :thumbleft:

Drag race on Saturday's, either do a Sunday Cruise with other vetters or work around the house(never ends).

I used to SCUBA, but I haven't in 12 years.

Fishing and camping when I can, go karts, I have three old school R/C trucks. Atlantic City is only an hour, so is Philly and NYC. So sometimes a little day trip happens.

Then there are the times when I'm not working that I lay in bed with my woman all day and we do unmentionable things to each other(Ok, we have sex!).

Vacations are usually spent somewhere other than at home.
So far this year, I have Daytona 500, both Dover races, a Pocono race, honeymoon in Canada, Cruise In, Panama Canal reunion and hopefully a trip somewhere that requires a plane ticket and a foreign language(maybe Panama again or Costa Rica again).
