Matt, what species are you putting down? Red Oak, Maple, something exotic? How wide is the room? Red oak will expand and contract approx 1/8-3/16" per foot of width, so if the room is 15 feet wide, theoretically it could change in size from 1 7/8" to 2 3/4". The guys who came in to lay the new gym floor left 6" on each side, and every three feet or so they put a row down with a nickel in between the two rows to make up for the expansion/contraction issue. Wintertime the floor will be a contracted as it will probably be. I never been to Chicago, but I think that the humidity there gets pretty high (yes?). Well in the middle of summer the floor will expand and that's where you'll have the problem. Personally I'd leave the 3/4". If you don't, I hope that you prove me wrong.

Well we got the day off here. Got the call at 5:30...No School Today. I've been out, it's not too bad, but I guess they were concerned about running buses. OK by me I'll go work in the shop.

I had a feeling that something was going on Chris. You hadn't been on for a while. It's no shame to do what you did, the Corvette just was not practical. I had to face the same issue 30 some odd years ago. I had a 64 coupe, got married and was working in the oil fields. The vette was my only car...along came #1 kid....the Vette had to go, like it or not, I knew it was the thing to do. 29 years later I bought the 94, after marrying off the last and youngest daughter.

Morning, another day here. I hate it when I can't sleep, usually because I've got a half dozen things on my mind. I tried a couple wireless headphones, my experience was like Brads. So just bought a nice set of Sony, right before Christmas, I won a gift card from the local classic R&R radio station and had to use it before Christmas.

We are in for a winter storm watch this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow morning. Not a fan of snow, but we really need the moisture.

It's another bust day. I have lots to do yet. I will start spraying the lacquer tonight. And I have another computer to work on. When it rains, it pours.

Afternoon Gurus....

Another typical day. My grandson had his best scoring game to date last night 21 points and 10 rebounds, he only played three quarters. My in-laws were here to see the great-grandson play, they were very happy for the grandson.

I ended up short of having enough stain to do all the staining, so I'll head over to the "city" to pick some more up today after school. I need to try and get that done so I can start spraying the lacquer.

Morning....typical Monday here at school. The kids are hard starting, they seem to have to talk over everything that happened this weekend. I'm dragging myself, so I kind of understand. It got cold again yesterday. I got my doors all done, but not stained. Oh Well, maybe this evening.

Matt, remember Tommy is retired and loses track of the what day it is.

Morning Gurus....Sorry to hear about your MIL Tommy. I hope everything works out OK.

Speaking of MIL, mine called this morning and they (FIL & MIL)are coming out today to spend a few days. They want to watch the grandson play b-ball, his last regular season game is Monday. They haven't been out in a while, so it will be good to see them here.

I'm out in the shop working on the cabinets. I hope to get them all sanded and maybe stained today. It would be nice to get them ready to spray the lacquer by tomorrow (after the grandson's game of course).

Yup...happens all over I guess. VB...you must have been married to the same guy that one of my co-workers was married to....she calls him "doofus" too. With a name like that it has to be the same person.

Back from the three hour drive. Not much of a game our boys ran into a buss saw. There are memories, but not the kind you want......

Have you read the instructions on putting the flooring down,Matt? They used to say spread the flooring out to allow it to acclimate to the surrounding. Just thought I'd suggest that.

We are headed out to middle grandson's b-ball game today. An hour and a half drive, play for 40 minutes and then another hour and half home. Oh well.

I worked on my cabinets until 10:30 last night, I'm making headway on them. Need to get the last six doors glued up and then sand, stain and finish.

Oowwwwweeee, home improvement projects! Sounds like fun. As far as retired goes, Tommy has it right.

TGIF, I need a little rest. Yesterday after school we went to my grandson's B-ball game (an hours drive away), they lost but he had a triple double. 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocked shots, so he had a pretty good game. Came home and the repair parts for my garage door opener were in the mail, so I went out to the shop to put those in. Then I finished up making the door parts for the cabinets I am building (using the shaper)...just have to cut the panels now and glue them together. The panels are a 1/4" plywood with 2 good faces, so they won't take too long to cut. After I got that done, I went in the house and finished up the computer I was working on. Another night not getting to bed until after midnight. The alarm went off pretty early this morning.

Hope you all have a great day!

morning guys, been busy....again. I didn't get to bed until after midnight, then up early. My butts dragging. Still working on computers and building those darn cabinets I told the people I'd have done and installed by mid February. Weather here is cloudy, but it's supposed to be in the mid to upper 40's...I can take that for January. I'm glad I don't have your snow, Brad....although we could use some moisture.

Morning guys, The weather is a bit better today than yesterday. The weatherguys missed the mark yesterday, said it was to be upper 40's, didn't get above freezing. Today looks and feels more like they are saying...upper 40's again.

I've been so freaking busy....computers, school and cabinets. Worked in the shop until nearly 11 last night. Time is running out on me to get these cabinets done, so I have to burn the midnight oil.

Matt, have a safe trip. Brad, I've never been to Puerto Vallarte, so I'm a little jealous of you. Bill, that's a pretty unusual sight. Can't say I've ever seen a Snowbow.

Morning...Glad to hear your dad is doing better. I've been a really busy guy the last couple of days. I've got a cabinet job going, and like normal, when it rains it pours when it comes to computer work. I've got four computers that need my attention. Watched my grandson play b-ball last night. He had another double double. 15 points 12 rebounds.

Afternoon Gurus. Retirement....according to my calendar, 88 more contract days, but who's counting.....ME! Like Ron, I'll continue working, but on my schedule. 52* right now, a very nice January day. I have some work to do once I get home. Been working on computers off and on today. Tomorrow, I have a grandson playing B-ball (3rd grader), other than that, I am working in the shop trying to make headway on those cabinets. I am supposed to have them done by mid February.

Morning guys, things are a bit slower today. Weather is not as nice as it has been the last few days, but not bad for January. The extended forecast is pretty good too. I have lots of things to do today...not sure I'll get them all done, but there's always tomorrow.

Tommy, have a safe trip. 95vette, those are just some of the things we do for our kids eh?

It's been a heck of a day. I've been so busy I haven't even had time to look at the internet until now. I got my load of lumber in and I have been out in the shop, first unloading the pickup, then later starting cutting up the wood for the next job. I also put a new passenger side mirror on the daughters van that she broke some time back. Then while I was cutting up the plywood a former student dropped by with a computer problem, so I stopped to help him out.

The internet has been so slow around here lately that I get really frustrated at times, but can't seem to be able to do without it. I feel your pain Matt. See you guys tomorrow.

Morning folks! I'm not going to let anything screw with me today.....it's my birthday (55) and I'm going to enjoy it. Got the tunes on here in the shop and the kids are working away.

Today's youth has no respect, but unfortunately, they come by it naturally. I am teaching kids of the kids I've had in my earlier years, so I know where many of them come by their attitudes.

Matt, you're right about Leno not being Carson...but Conan....I don't care for him at all. I think it has to do with the generation thing, I don't find him funny at all.

hey guys, It's a beautiful day here in SW Kansas. 55* right now and sunny. Like Tommy said, what a difference a week makes. We had the freezing fog last week....sure makes the trees and everything pretty, but the roads...not so pretty. We are supposed to have 'seasonal' weather for the next week or so. That's good.

I have a couple of computers to work on in the next couple of days, and tomorrow I have a good sized load of lumber being delivered for a couple of cabinet jobs I have lined up. They say "there's no rest for the wicked"...I must be the most wicked man on earth....or the craziest.

Man, Tommy that sucks! We expect that here in the bread basket this time of year. But that's not what you think of in south Florida. I hope your not hurt too bad.

Well I got the big run to KC accomplished without too much trouble. When we left Friday (about 3:45pm) it was 32*. When we got to KC (about 9:45pm)it was 2 with wind chills to -20. I worked about two hours that night, hanging some cabinets that I built and finished up hanging the last of the sheetrock. Went to bed about 12:45 am and then got up at 6 to get the pickup ready. All this in nearly knee deep snow.

Hooked up the dolly and gathered up the tools....oh it was -3 and WC to -25 at that time. Grabbed the SIL and went out to where the car was. Unhooked the dolly, so I could back up and get the engine, then we hooked the dolly back up but the ramps were too steep to push the car up them. Really snow-packed roads and couldn't get any footing. Luckily, the guy had some car ramps and I backed the rear end up on them and relieved the angle enough that the four of us guys were able to push it up on the dolly. Got it all strapped down and we were headed west by 8:30.

They gave me directions to get back to I70/Kansas Turnpike, but I missed the turn (brand new on/off ramp that my Garmin didn't show) so I thought I'd just keep going, my Garmin took me right back to where I needed to be, but it didn't know about the snow-packed spots. It was a very slow first 35 miles (about 40 mph, if that). Once back in I70 we were about to pull it at 65mph (even though, right there on the fender, in the rear view mirror it says 45mph limit, what do they know?)We made it back to Great Bend in 4 hours, it was about 30-45 minutes longer than normal. Dropped off the engine and the car at the nephews place and he said he hoped that he could have it done by next weekend. Jumped back in the pickup and dropped the dolly off and headed for home. Stopped in Garden City and bought a new garage door opener (the other one shot craps Wednesday) 2 1/2 hours later we are back at home. I missed working the JV girls game (I called ahead and let them know I wouldn't make that one), but was in time to work both Varsity games.

This morning, I got up and went to church and then came home and installed the new opener. Then we went back to GC to take the daughters family out to eat. Today was the oldest grandsons' 13th birthday, Friday was the Daughters/SIL 10th Anniversary, and my 55th birthday is Tuesday, so we got all those knocked out with one meal. Oh it was 52* today here, in KC they got up to 8* according to the daughter, I'm glad to be home.

Tomorrow it's back to school....man if this is what retirement is like, I'm going to be one tuckered out boy.

I've never heard it approached from that angle, but I do know that the earth precesses around it's axis of rotation, much like a wobbling top. I don't know how much effect that would have on climate, but I am aware that sunspot activity has a lot to do with how much energy the sun generates. Right now, the sun is in a sunspot minimum that has lasted longer than expected.

Dale, the next thing those people will try to tell us is that the sunspot activities are affected our fossil fuel usage.

Been a hectic day here. Didn't really have time to look in much earlier. Headed for KC in about 2 hours. The Auto shop teacher (across the hall) is out for another two weeks as he had to have emergency surgery to repair a "cut in his colon" that happened when he had a colonoscopy last week. Got really sick just hours after he had it done and found that they had poked a hole in his colon. Anyway I have been trying to keep his classes in line with work as well as mine....yes they have a sub, but the little gal they have is a bit overwhelmed by the Auto-mechanics/welding area.

I probably won't have a chance to check things out tomorrow, so yo guys have a great weekend.

Colder than cold today. Not complaining though, as some of you are in much worse shape than us.

It's been an eventful week for me. lots of work to do and stuff I've gotten done. Have a B-ball game of my grandson, to go to this evening. Tomorrow I'm headed for KC to get the daughters car and haul it back to get it fixed and need to be back Saturday evening to work a B-ball game here. So 900 miles in less than 24 hours....and work on her house while I'm there.

Morning guys.... It's another typical day here at school. Cold, but not unseasonably, tomorrow is supposed to be the cold blast. Tommy, I'm glad you seem to have dodged the bullet. Matt, snow is snow in my opinion....the 'white sh!t'. Not much to say this morning, so I'll just say "Have a great day"

Morning guys. Oh where to begin....I get home yesterday and I have two computers to work on. One has the "Internet Security 2010" rogue virus on it. This SOB is not a fun one to try and get rid of...very ornery. While working on that I get a call from my youngest daughter.

If you will remember back in early Nov they ran their car out of oil and ruined the engine, I bought them a used engine to have it replaced. Her boss was going to swap it out for them. Well he still hasn't even started. He keeps giving her excuses why he hasn't started. So I told her to call my nephew, her cousin (an ASE mechanic) to see if he would do it for them. "Sure no problem, bring it in, shouldn't take more than a weekend." The only problem is I have to drive clear across the state (400 miles) to go and get it and then drive half way back across the state to drop it off.

So, as soon as school is out Friday, I am headed to KC. They are supposed to have the car dolly ready for me. Then early Saturday morning we'll go load the car and the replacement engine and I'll head back, dropping it off literally half way back across the state.

The biggest concern is all the snow that they have on the ground up there, and how that will affect the loading of the car.

Weather is pretty nice here...for January. Looking for highs today in the low 40's, but another cold front is due in tomorrow night through Friday.

Morning guys....Back to school today. It was a bit hard to get out of bed this morning as I've been sleeping in. But it won't take too long to get back into the swing of things. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be pretty nice...for winter in Kansas, high 30's and lower 40's, but we are headed to the deep freeze later this week -5*F predicted for Thursday night and a high of 8 on Friday.

Right back at you on the good day Tommy....

It was nothing special, I worked on the computer for a while, watched a little TV, and the wife and I were in bed by 10:15. We are having the daughter and three grandsons here today (SIL has to work).

I have a guy bringing over a staircase handrail for me to work on a little later, but other than that nothing planned for today. I worked on getting my business expenses and receipts for 2009 together, can't get to much of a head start on those taxes

Well, we had an uneventful trip home. 5 hours and 50 minutes of actual driving time, but with the stops about 7 hours. When we got home I started feeling crappy, achy, upset stomach. Then I turned on my computer...the blue screen of death on startup....even in safe mode. So I had to reinstall XP and all the programs (I haven't finished yet) and my router keeps going off, so I've been fighting that as well. I got to feeling so bad that I went to bed about 9:30. I'm feeling much better today. But still have to finish getting all the stuff back on the computer.

The wife and I are planning a quiet NYE here at home...may not even stay up to see it in, we are getting old. Less than two weeks away from my 55th birthday.

Morning CGs. Snow in KC too. We are headed home today around 9am, so we'll be fighting a little snow.

We've been invited to a family get-together NYE, but we've been gone all week and the wife has to work tomorrow and then turn around and head back just doesn't make sense. We're going to just stay home and enjoy it ourselves.

Have a good day.

I have accomplished quite a bit this year. Next year will be just as good....I hope. This year has flown by, as we get older, they seem to go by faster and faster. Thanks Tommy for the advice. Matt, I hope the little one gets to feeling better soon. Pete, those are tough times, but not surprising. Brad, that's great..seven weeks is one great start.

Good luck and a happy new year to all.

I finished hanging the sheet rock, and first coat of mud on (except the inside corners) yesterday...took until 11 pm. Today I am picking up the machine to blow insulation into the attic, so I will be crawling around on my belly in tight quarters today, but it will be good to have that done.

We are headed home tomorrow, so I need to get this stuff done.
