Karts are great fun. We had one for awhile when my son was still a boy. I have a lot of room in a large side lot and we had a blast sliding that thing around. 35 MPH in a kart feels like 120 in a car!
Shift karts, as I think they're called and you mentioned are a high level of kart racing. Many great racers got their start in karts and it's more common today than ever. Ricky Rudd, now retired Nascar driver comes to mind. He was a as tough as nails son of a bitch..

I reckon it would, cause if you look at my dash parts, the A/C vents, around the radio, and also the top pad, youll see they are mirrored, and they are all made of fibreglass,

So i reckon if they can do that pretty well, it should be doable to make some flares that are almost the same on both sides

Having done a bit of racing on an amateur level, I can't even imagine the intensity level of doing that stuff for hours on end. Hell, I was young, strong and in shape back when I raced a dirt track stock car. And sometimes after just a 15 to 25 lap feature race, I'd hardly have the arm strength left to pull myself out of the car! Those guys are bad to the bone.

Please no arguments about which is best, just what floats your boat and why, if you want to elaborate. First, since I've been a hot rod nut for as long as I can remember, I've always enjoyed drag racing. But I must admit I found it much more interesting years ago when the cars were much more diverse. I'd rather go to one nostalgia show than a whole season of modern pro drag racing. Give me the gassers, the fuel altereds, A/FX cars, early super stockers and "rail jobs."
Also stock cars and anything else that runs in a circle. Sprint cars, supermodifieds and the Indianapolis 500, still and always the greatest race in the world, no matter what, IMO. But what wouldn't I give to have seen it anytime from the early 60s on back, when "the big cars" were king. Watson roadsters, Offenhauser power, you know. I didn't get to see the race live until 1968, the beginning of the long Unser dynasty.
And although Nascar is the only professional sport I follow closely, I'm happier at a great short track show with ultra-competitive racing. Where the drivers are only known to the locals but are heroes just the same.
Good God, the racing I've seen on tracks no one's ever heard of. Shady Bowl Speedway in DeGraff Ohio, the best stock car racing I've ever seen, week in and week out back in the early and mid 80s. Sandusky speedway, also in Ohio, also good stock car racing but even better, supermodifieds! These cars were the most balls to the wall cars to ever bolt on a set of pavement rubber. So damned fast you'd swear they had to be on a tether. Fuel injected big blocks, lots of rubber, wings, a driver and little more. And sprint cars, the ultimate show on dirt. Fremont Speedway in Ohio (where I regularly raced my stock car way back when), the Famous Eldora Speedway, Wayne County Speedway, Lima Land (a 1/4 high banked dirt bull-ring where I also raced a few times) and many others I'm sure that I could recall. If you ever have a chance to catch a sprint car show live, DO IT! And their little brothers the midgets, no less impressive but more rare. Mainly they run in touring circuits only these days, such as USAC. Sprints and midgets also run on pavement in USAC and other series and can put on a helluva show there too.
Anyhow, that's my rant although I've seen and appreciate many other types of racing too. I saw the Trans-Am series early on at Mid-Ohio in '67-'68, etc. I saw Mario win an Indy car race there in '84, I believe. Mario was my boyhood hero. Back in the early to mid 60s, he won USAC sprint and midget championships before moving up to Indy cars.
I went to a vintage racing weekend at VIR a few years ago. All of the great sports cars that I remember from way back. That was damn cool.
Someday I'm going to get to the Bonneville salt flats. Without a doubt, the purest form of hot rod racing left.

I was a big fan for years, but I'm getting less and less interested as the cars go farther and farther away from their street car counterparts. It's becoming NASCAR on road courses. The CTS-V's, while incredible cars, share about as much with the street version as a NASCAR Toyota Camry does.

I'll still watch as it's one of the few series that still has Corvettes, but with LG gone I'm not sure who to root for. ALMS GT2 might be interesting this year with the huge increase in entries (including Corvette, of course), we'll see.

No not since thismorning.

The 74 Mercedes Benz owned by the Benz mechanic i used to use had over 3.4 million klms on it last time i saw it, still going strong and same owner since new, and the 78 280 SEL my old man had went very strong at well over 1 million miles, the odo was in klms but it was at 634.XXX on its second way around when it stopped working, and it hadnt worked in about 10 years. THAT is durability

That's because nobody makes them. The only sets I see are occasionally on eBay or in the CF Parts for Sale section. As for the left side still being in stock and the right side discontinued, that's been the situation for at least the past year. And what's with that? Why wouldn't both be still around or neither be still around? Why just the one side? I don't get it...

HA!!! 300,000 miles is nothing. I said 1,000,000 miles. When you hit the one million, THEN ill consider it durable

Have you and Brad been drinking again ? I only drive 6000 miles a year in my daily commuter and even if I tripled my driving I would have to drive this Merc. for 50 years and it still would be 100K off the million mark.

I finally got a video to where I feel it's acceptable. Take a look and critique it...

It's mostly footage from a few warm up sessions, some with a passenger, so nothing spectacular. It was also my first time at the track so don't use it to learn Putnam if you've never been, I was trying different lines and shift points I still managed first in class later in the day, but later spun which got me DQ'd. Had to settle for second.

Notice the sweet missed shift at 5:00 and at 6:05 I just about lose it and go into the beach

So...is it too long? Is the first lap with no action boring? Should I put music in like lots of people do? More captions? Less captions?

The Japan spec cars left the factory with the same flares as seen on the GS since way back, there are a few C4s over here that have them, most are removed.

Don't worry, the novelty will wear off soon enough. Your challenge will be to work there without being sick of cars in your off time, or losing interest in your more modest cars.

Take full advantage of those perks!

She spent half the day landscaping my front yard, so I can't exactly complain!

I got the car driveable this morning before wasting a whole day in mexico. I'll pull the rest of the fender and try fixing that, and the botched front end repair that was done previously.

I should just get a new fender and then maaco it.

I've been watching all day...

Although I'm more into the Koni challenge cars, which ran yesterday but won't be televised until next Saturday night. The Spectator 2 Corvette was purchased from one of the teams (Rehegan racing, running 4 Mustangs). They were 1 - 2 for 20 laps late in the race but lost a few spots on a pit stop and finished 5 - 10.

Yeah, Nascar is exciting to watch, usually. I can appreciate the other motorsports more, but until they learn how to put the level of money and attention into televising them like they do nascar, they're hard to watch.

Rally racing for example, is unbelievably exciting. In-car views on open wheel road racing gets my blood pumping, yet the broadcasts are so terrible to watch.

I remember watching 24 of daytona (last year?) when Tony stewart was nursing it to the end with broken suspension, one of the closer races in recent history, but the broadcast was so damn boring.

Tires used: 84
Fuel used: 367 gal.
Gearshifts: 17,368 including upshifts & downshifts
Cases of Red Bull: 30

These guys due have one luxury, Daytona's all lit up. It makes for better tv watching but it wasn't too many years ago that they were driving with the track totally dark. That makes it much harder.

I agree with Bogus about ALMS, but then GrandAm's in bed with Nascar, that's why the prototypes all look alike.

I prefer the ALMS... but that's just me.

I am watching... but the numbnuts at KTLA (Fox 11) here in LA, decided to tape delay the broadcast of the start of the race from the scheduled 10am to 2pm. This means that anyone watching the start will be doing so whilst the rest of the race is showing live on Speed. What am I missing here? Oh, they did this, apparently, so they wouldn't have to preempt Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... God forbid...

I am going to pull them out and take them to a place that makes high pressure hoses locally. I'm going to have them fab something and I can probably use the old fittings so I know it will fit.

I'll know more next week.
