For mexico, all I've ever needed was to look like a white boy, or sometimes a drivers license if they ask for it on the way back in.

They'll soon require passports though, so I'll probably quit going. Mexico is overrated anyways.

But I'm not driving there for business or anything, that'd probably require more documents.

Funny how it's harder to get in from Canada than Mexico. Must be all them canucks stealing our jobs!

I know Exotic Muscle's fabricator makes a beautiful roll-bar for the 'vert. Problem is, you have to notch your deck lid.

Seems like there could be one card with different certifications attached to it. Like a motorcycle certification on a driver's license. Or better yet, a card that could be scanned or something.

Not so sure, and now I can't say for sure. But in the past, I used to see stuff written about CF on CKS,DC and BCF. Jim Willis said it doesn't matter what is said as long as it isn't on CF.

I would hope that is the case, but that's optimistic. I remember bashing CF once on DC, which got crosslinked and I got a rash of shit for it, that was mostly just members, but from you also. I think you took it personal (rightfully so) yet you did not ban/punish me on CF for it. That was very professional of you.

That is one thing that can really bug me about some people, is that they can't take criticism without overreacting. Criticism is sometimes constructive, sometimes destructive, but a person that can't take it or leave it is never going to feel comfortable in their own shoes.

But yeah, I quite giving a rats ass what they think awhile ago. Probably right about the time I changed my avatar to a fake lifetime member sign with dollar signs in it.

I don't know how many of you cross an International border on regular basis but as a truck driver in Canada I cross the border between the U.S. and Canada daily.

The amount of I.D. we have to carry is getting crazy.

Right now to cross the border I have the following I.D.
Passport
Fast Express card (means Free and Secure Trade)
C.D.R.P. (Canadian Drivers Registration Program)
P.R. Card (permanent Resident card--I am American living in Canada)

And now the department of Homeland Security is mandating we have another form of I.D. to get into designated refineries in the U.S.

It is called the TWIC. Meaning Transportation Workers Identification Card.

Man where is this going to end. I mean I'm all for security and all but this is getting to the point of over kill.

The other part that many people don't realize is that some of this I.D. we must have as a condition of our employement. Not eligable for a certain card or have it taken by customs for any number of reasons and you lose your job. (Has happend to 4 of our drivers)

To get the F.A.S.T. , C.D.R.P. and the new T.W.I.C. card a background check is done and you must be interviewed by customs. You basically must have a clean record since the day you were born or they will not approve you application for said card.

How things have changed. We were once an industry that employed the outcasts. Not anymore.

I'm just waiting for the chip in my a$$.

Gary

I've actually had trouble finding a shop that'll tint my side windows, since CA law only allows 70% there. So I may try those myself. If I do, I'll try and document it with pics.

The back window though, I can go as dark as I want legally, and since it's huge I'll at least pay a shop to do that. Obviously I won't go too low or it's hard to see when backing at night.

So I'll probably end up with 30% all around. Most people I've seen paid ~$200 to have their entire C4 tinted.

I'm just North of Knoxville, Tennessee. I've got an extra bedroom for someone to crash if need be. A small 2 car garage and a pretty decent collection of tools from my time at the dealership. I can help wrench or fix most things but my garage space is limited. I'm a pretty decent cook and the fridge in the garage allways has a 6 or 12 pack of something. Usually Warsteiner, Natural ice or some other type of German beer.
Wife and I have had all our shots and we dont bite except for our 2 year old son but thats mostly just ankles.

I'm currently active duty Air Force security forces and work all kinds of odd hours. I'm home at weird hours too so no trying to B&E . If you need a guy to clear a room, knock down doors, and advice on how to get that 1k meter head shot I'm you're guy.

The part numbers were only on the actual bearings. they FAG CANADA 151 and 154. Other than that the machinist I was working with said, the mechanical seal is a very common item, very similiar to pumps onboard ships, for example. But for 50 bucks basically I got everything I needed.
The only thing I didnt get, which is minor, is the O ring that goes on the shaft that comes out the back of the pump. They are little o rings that slide on the back, and get rock hard over time.

Anyone have a hookup or suggestion where to get high quality rod ends for racing applications?

They're $30-50 everywhere I look (Summit, VBP, etc).

I need 3/4" thread, 0.50 bore.

Just an example, a standard steel 3/4 x3/4 bore is rated at 11,500lbs, $30, the high strength alloy is 27,000 at $73. These are Aurora bearings.

You can get to the .50 bore with a reducer (it's done all the time on race cars) or with hats ( which is done a lot but they're a pain ).

Get this catalog: go to www.aircraftspruce.com and get their racecar catalog,
their aircraft catalog is good too.
Their west coast warehouse is near bogas and central, east coast is in Georgia.
This is where I get all my hardware, I only use AN bolts on suspension stuff.

Another good reference catalog is at: www.pegasusautoracing.com , lots of little hard to find parts, etc.

Well it is a simple process. I finally found someone who would sell me the seals, bearings etc. He is H2Opumpman on ebay. It was done not through ebay, but I emailed him asking where I could get the parts to rebuild. He finally did, and if you decide to do this, be tactful, as it is his business to rebuild pumps, so he was a little standoffish. Here are some pics, with little write ups.
This is the mechanical seal, which is supposed to stop the weep hole from weeping. And the bearing assembly(Canada FAG 151/154 dual bearings already attached to shaft.
Resized Image
First thing is to take 6 cover bolts off to expose impeller.
Resized Image
Then use a punch or whatever you have to get impeller off of shaft(you may need to heat it up), and to somewhat push the shaft bearing assembly out of the bottom.
Resized Image
Once that is done you can tap out the shaft with the bearings useing a light hammer or whatever you want.
Resized Image
Resized Image
Then tap out mechanical seal in the center of the pump and voila, start putting her back together. First put the bearing assembly in from the back of the pump with a light hammer and a 7/8" socket.
Resized Image
Then I put a little, very little RTV on the outside of the mechanical seal and tapped it back in with a 1" socket.
Then put the impeller back on the shaft and use a socket to tap it back to the height it was on the shaft before. NOTE: It may have gotten bent a little (impeller), but you can hit the center and flatten her back.
Resized Image
Once the impeller is back on , put the cover back on with O-Ring supplied with kit.
Resized Image
Done.
here are old bearings and seals.

Is it recommended to weld in some threaded ends like these, or just cut threads directly into the tubing?

I guess this allows you to run larger, thinner, lighter, stronger tubing, right?

Nope, never cut threads in tubing that will be under stress, especially under tension. We use these to build struts and suspension links and use only DOM chromemoly.

Good advice. And aside from any other mandated specs, check wall thickness. .095" used to be the standard for most things but .120" minimum seems much more standard these days. Most kits are mandrel bent and should be. But also make sure it's seamless tubing. That's also generally required.

Yep, for cars weighing 3,000 to 4,000 (roadrace) the spec is .120 x 1.750dia and must be DOM (seamless).

Pull it off, bead blast it,
then spend a looong time
cleaning the inside to get
all the media out and then
your bodyman will be more
friendly toward the pan.
Bead blasting is about the
only way you can really get
rid of all the rust and I'm
sure he knows this and he
also knows how long it will
take to get ALL the media
out of the pan. Time is $$$
to him. This is the cheap
method, myself, I would just
get a new pan so I would
know that no blasting media
was going to get in the engine.

Good Morning Gurus!

Wow, Friday again. Seems like just six or seven days ago it was Friday.

I was supposed to work last Saturday, but a computer snafu put a stop to that. So I will be driving an hour to work on Saturday. Our office is closed on Monday, but I will be back up here again, editing all day.

At least it is for a freelance job that pays well!

Much warmer today in my part of the world. Up to 11 from -8 yesterday. So I suspect I'll see college kids wearing shorts whilst out for lunch later today...

Enjoy your day, and have a kick arse weekend!

Air is the limiting factor. You could put a converted LT1 intake on, a stealth ram with custom plenum, superram, etc. The electronics will run it fine. You can change injector size, throw in a 255lph fuel pump, tune the computer, and the computer/electronics are good to go. The electronics can give it all the fuel and management it needs, just need to get more air in there to make more power. Depending on the power level reached (how much air you get in there, so to speak) a tune may be all you need. The stock TPI restriction is that the runner length from the plenum to the valve is so long that after about 4500 rpms it can't get enough air to make any power. It is a torque monster due to the air velocity at low rpms, but sucks up top. I've heard people say for autocross or road course type racing a modified TPI with the right heads/cam is the way to go because of the low end torque that accelerates you up out of the corner. I don't do that tho so I have no experience there. For drag racing it is best to scrap the TPI. I am currently putting a holley stealth ram on my L98 along with a CC503 cam and reworked heads. I can't wait to see how it runs.

I vote every day, sometimes twice (2 different computers and internet connections). If everyone would go vote every time they logged on for the first time each day we would be first in a couple of days.

No, I don't think plan A is unrealistic. It seems you have the money, time and patience to accomplish your goals. That is great. If I were in your shoes I'd choose plan A over plan B. There is just something about a supercharged vette...... Notorious must have a killer combo put together so if you choose plan B I'd take notes on his setup. I think the "lowly" hotcam is what keeps his car so "usable". I chose a CC503 cam, which is just a little bigger. (Mine is not an LT1, but a L98 in the process of a heads/cam/hsr intake swap) Many people overcam their engine and the powerband ends up so high that it feels weak on the street. I think that is the most important part. I've noticed most guys in the C4 world stay fairly mild with cam and head intake port size and I think that is why their cars run so well on the street compared to listening to many camaro guys who put huge heads/cam packages in complain that their car gets smoked by a turbo 4cyl in a stoplight race. Let us know which way you decide to go and keep us updated on the progress!!

Would love to see some pics. I'm considering them but wonder how snug they fit.

If its an original type headlight motor it does not have bushings like the 89. Does it continue to make noise but the headlight is not moving? Gear. If it is not making noise and just stops turning, could be armature.

Didnt know that...thanks.

CF can't do jack here. So there.

I can guaran-damn-tee though that some of those losers in charge at CF are spying over here though!

Guarantee they are.
Not so sure, and now I can't say for sure. But in the past, I used to see stuff written about CF on CKS,DC and BCF. Jim Willis said it doesn't matter what is said as long as it isn't on CF. I'm not so sure I believe him, then or now. But who cares anyway? At this point, let's just enjoy ourselves

Oh no, we are waaayyyyyyy to voyeuristic. We need the details.

The fact that that place has now booted you, is only further affirmation that you did things right. Back when it was still possible, you went a long way towards making CF an enjoyable place to hang out.
Thank you, I always tried to please everyone if it was within my power.

I am no longer a Moderator at Corvetteforum. They canned me for doing my job.

Proof, once again, that no good deed goes unpunished. Thanks for everything.

RACE ON!!!
Good to see you, I noticed before I was canned that you were placed in Moderation. Did anyone ever talk to you about it Like I did that one time?
