Maybe not on radiators. But on many parts there, at least you have the option in front of you of buying chinese vs buying quality. Autozone only stocks the cheapest part that will kinda fit/function.

Place isnt the same without everyone else there. Tons of unanswered questions, board is moving real slow over there.
No humor which is what I really miss. CC and plenty of others were always good for a laugh in addition to a straight no BS answer.

THere are paying members who hang around and wait for good info that they now cant get wether it be from payuing members or not .

That is a huge misatke if revenue is their primary concern...

Look at the ZR1 sec there tonight..Someone got on and started 2 pages of threads with same titels and nothing else...Sabotaging it .That area is worthless without Jeff there .Plenty of pizzed off dudes there .

I find myself hesitant to post. A wisecrack or a hint of sarcasm gets me banned now? Granted most of them I deserved and Im not even referring to the one C4 mod who I suspect is pretty decent guy...Think there are others there that step in with the gestappo bit.

This hobby is fun...Forums should be also. JMO.

unless I were to get the boot again there Ill be around, but I find lately I dont post as much. I get bored easy .

Dont want to over-reach or sound out of line. Just a thought. Maybe we could at some time in the future add a section for military members or military chat. Just a thought.

Tommy, I'm not familiar with your setup on this car but the popping and backfiring sounds indicative of a timing issue more so than a cat. It 'could' be a plugged cat but they usually idle fine and just refuse to rev over a certain RPM.
Also, I wonder if they checked the pushrods to see if any got bent. Hydrolocking can do that.

No problem. Maybe someone else can chime in with some other suggestions. If they don't have a FSM for a 91, by all means..let them use it.

[size=12:55924920c5]Hey kids - get those pencils ready, here's the QUIZ: Yes, I received a Code "H61" when I retrieved codes via the paperclip method. There is NOT a code 61 in ANY of my manuals, in any of the forum threads, or even in any of the "F" Body websites. Yes, I am sure of the number - even checked it twice (like Santa does his list). Does anyone have a clue?

Prior to struggling back to the garage, heavy black soot was coming out of the tailpipe and covering the entire rear of the car. I checked a few fittings and generally shined the flashlight around (like THAT was gonna help) . . . Now it runs fine.

C'mon guys/gals - someone has to know what's going on here . . . lol

Thanks in advance, Gary

Yep , still have precats. Legal exhaust system. Just the Magnaflows on the back. Thanks for your input RRT. You've been helpful to me in what I should ask tomorrow. Hopefully it will all get sorted out soon before my wife calls for my head. LOL. I'll hopefully post the final chapter on this very soon. I better take my FSM with me and let them borrow it.

Yes, raw fuel or very rich exhaust can ruin a catalytic converter, fairly quickly. Do you still have precats?

I would let them check the plug wires in association with firing order The FSM give good info on this and even the crappy Haynes has some info. Find out if they pull the dist. If so, they might want to get #1 clyinder to TDC (HB at 0*) and take the cap off and make sure the rotor is pointing towards #1 cylinder. My 86 was out of time and it caused the "little power and backfiring" situation...sure you remember reading about it. These are very easy steps to take and require very basic tools and cheaper than replacing a cat that imight be good. IMO

I am glad!!! It has been a labour of love to get it this far... I know brut put his share of time into it... a lot of time!

As have I... and it is hard to get something going. Sometimes, tho, timing is everything, and with the actions of certian firms/sites, we are poised to make it to the next level!

No gas in the oil anymore. The oil has been flushed and the injectors and regulator replaced. I guess it leaves the cat, the distributor and the ecm, right? Unless wires are crossed but they supposedly already checked that.

Thank you for not giving up on this site. I joined shortly after it first started and would come here every so often, even posted links to some of the Tech Articles in response to questions on "that other site" but as someone else said in another post, a new site is tough to get off the ground. People come for a look but don't see much going on. Someone starts a thread and there's no response for several day or weeks, if at all.

In the past week things have really changed. I think I've spent more time on this site in the past week than on the other 3 well known sites combined.

Once again thanks.

Is fuel still in the oil?

Wonder if they disturbed the timing? Did they take the intake manifold off and reseal it, as I noticed they replaced "unreadable" intake gasket. Most likely just the plenum and runner gaskets because of replacing the injectors. If the intake manifold was taken off, they might have not installed the dist correctly. Ask them about that.

They could do a exhaust backpressure test to determine if the cat is flowing correctly.

Rob great to see you man! I was wondering when you would find your way over here!

You're right this place has a fantastic "people feel" to it. I'm also confident that this will become THE technical site for C4's in '08 without all the BS.

Newsflash...... This just in

Things were looking up today, then down , then back up again ending finally ending with a bang. Many items replaced.

8 A/C Delco spark plugs
front timing seal
serpentine belt
tensioner
oil pan gasket
A/C recharge
Complete engine diagnostic
4 fuel injectors
intake (unreadable) gasket
oil change
oil filter
a shop fuel regulator (no charge)
a stock coil replacing my supposedly not working properly MSD6AL

The engine is running but backfiring. He now thinks it could be a fouled catalytic converter. Total spent so far just under $2000 U.S. Rechecked the plug wires. The car has little power and is backfiring. I have to call him back in the morning so if any gurus have any input I would surely appeciate any guidance. The guy is not an idiot but then again I would like to take it out of there running without losing too much more. His do-boy seems to be like a bull in a china shop when he works on this. I just want to get it home and get a master to go over his work.

Let's see what tomorrow brings. The last couple of weeks have been brutal

Hey Andy - I still have a tech tip I created back when I had my 88 on removing the door panels. How can I add it here?

Also the 92 is going under the knife for the next couple months (suspension rebuild and head gaskets) I could be persuaded to take pictures and write something up.
