The market has hit the C6's hard too. I have been seeing alot of nice examples with slightly high miles sell for mid 20's or less.
They are calling out to me. |

You need to call back and set up a date with one. Have you driven one? I have only looked at them and never even sat in one. I have been keeping an eye on a yellow Z06 at a dealer not to far from here. Not that I could ever afford it but just to see how long it sits. It's been there since spring. Nice looking ride!

I've seen some incredible deals on used 05s around here - they pop up in the mid-high 20s. That's crazy. New I've seen them advertised for about 42k, but I haven't looked hard enough to see how low they could go. To be honest with you, what's wrong with a "stripped" vette....still goes just as fast as the one with a navigation unit!
I am still waiting to drive my cousin's 06, but it'll have to wait until spring. Matthew |

Brian, do you have an information on these problems? I work closely with the folks who developed the C5 and C6 AH systems. I wonder if they've been involved with these incidents.
Which sensors are failing? Accels? Yaw? Wheel speed? You would typically need a dual failure to get past the error protection built into these electronics. This is pretty rare...as in nonexistant. |

False, the only thing that was changed that was of value from the C5 was the ability to retrieve codes. In the C5 you could use the DIC. On the C6, you have to have a tech2 or other scan tool. |

I can't even begin to tell you how many false statements based on suppostion our friend awschucks has made on that thread. Quote: awshucks wrote on the CF: I think every description of how AH and ABS work that he mentions above is wrong. I'll have more time later, but let me address the initial comment that a bad SAS, or steering angle sensor, will send your car into the ditch. The SAS supplies its values on the vehicle CAN communication bus. Very few things are hard-wired anymore. If the SAS failed, AND its own internal diagnostics didn't catch it, or if it had an intermittant connection, it would simply NOT be sending steering wheel angle to the rest of the vehicle. The ESP module, no longer receiving steering angle, would shut down active handling and light the warning lamp. But let's suspend disbelief for a minute further and say that instead of sending no signal, the SAS sends out an erroneous signal to the vehicle, and thus to the ESP module. The third degree of error checking would then come into play: The car would take the "supposed" steering angle along with the vehicle speed and calculate the expected yaw. This would then be compared to the amount of yaw measured by the yaw sensor. Noting that they were way off, the system would assume one of the sensors was bad and shut down AH. In this case, ABS and Traction control still work fine (they require no steering angle value or yaw sensors) but the ESP module would disable active handling and light the warning light. There is no case where the car will activate a brake to help you with a fake steering input and drive you into the ditch. This is an obscene example of someone with a voice on the internet propagating fear for attention. Also, good luck getting your DelCity "off the shelf" connectors to handle the 100,000 miles and 10 years of vibration and freezing temperatures that your GM specified connector is rated for. BTW, most (dare I say all?) safety critical connectors are gold plating over tin or nickel. With a minimum gold thickness. They do a pretty good job of resisting corrosion. |

"If you see the warning and have the connector serviced, I'm suggesting that you or the tech use white lithium lube on the connector. You should also make a determined effort to keep the connector from flexing when the steering wheel is moved in and out. You might try to replace the connector, but that brings up a full can of worms. Should I use the existing connector design or use something better? As I said earlier, solder is the best, but there are better connectors that could be used if you want to fix this once and for all." This guy is soooooooooooooo full of crap. "Soldering is best" ? If it is why did m company build the entire wiring harness for the Apache helicoptors using crimp technology? I don't have a problem with soldering but, most people don't do it right. And soldering a crimp contact that goes into a housing is a failure waiting to happen. The military's been using crimp technology for years and years. Jon's right about the gold contacts in critical connectors except they don't resist corrosion, they don't corrode period. Tin plated contacts are subject to "fretting corrosion" which is caused mostly by vibration. No one designs in tin contacts on crcuits under a half amp (known as a dry circuit). Above one amp, you have enough electrical force to blow thru normal corrosion on tin contact. Loss of contact in a tin plated connector is usually due to repeated mating and unmating which will reduce the normal force excerted on the contacts. A connector that sees a lot of cycles should not be made of tin plated brass. High cycle connectors should be made of beryllium copper and plated per the application. If (BIG IF) wiggling the connector helps, there may be a problem with the design, quality of the connector, etc. And I'd like to know if the contacts are "insulation support" contacts. I've engineered in/sold over a billion (true figure) connectors, most due their job quite well. |

I'd have to see more information. Certainly things can fail, but in most of the cases like this, once you dig in a little bit you find that it's driver error, hear-say, and miscommunicated facts.
I trust DRM, too, when it comes to building some badass race cars. But production stuff is a whole different ballgame. And while these systems are extremely robust in every way, once we introuduce things like race tires and 7000 rpms things can happen. That I will not deny. But I seriously doubt that yaw sensors are failing...and even less likely that they fail and cause any sort of an unpredictable reaction. We do millions of tests in just about any situation you can think of...the industry standards for failure frequencies in these types of modules are about 3 parts per million. So a bad one can get through once about every 25 years of Corvette production... |

My father's friend just stumbled across an 09 Standard 6speed Non-Z51 Vette fully loaded otherwise with 6,000 miles for $32,000. It was at a Nissan Dealer, I am pretty sure they did not know what they had. I can only imagine the beating that the owner took on that car when he/she traded it in.
Oh, it was traded in on a Nissan 370Z... YUCK! Looking back, just a year ago, I paid over $30K for my 05, which at the time was a killer deal we searched long and hard for. Today my 05 can be had for Mid-Low 20's. But you know what, we had a lot of fun driving it this summer, and that's what you pay for... I am glad i bought it even if I "overpaid." No looking back now! However, I just want to mention something I've said in the past. All the Vette's have something special to offer. I miss our 89 as much as I love or 2005. The 05 is fast, handles like its on rails, and is comfortable, but I miss "driving" a vette. With my C3 and C4 you had to stay on your toes.. the power was raw rather than refined which is more fun for aggressive spirited driving, The car was loud, and took a harder beating than I was willing to dish out to the new one. Overall I am happy with the move, especially since my girlfriend is the primary driver... the car is certainly safer, and more predictable, but by no means do wouldn't I consider another C4 (in fact, I am looking for one... shhhhh!)
