Do you think Roger Clemens is guilty (of steroid use?)

I was stuck watching the Roger Clemens hearing this morning, but finally left for work.

I have not been following it, and it pains me to see our tax dollars pissed away on something like this, but it's probably the best way to try and sort out the truth when everyone is lying. And the other side of me enjoys watching people living in a fantasy world face the music that they aren't above our system, particularly when it comes to perjury. Because if you can't trust people under oath, the whole justice system fails.

The way I see it:

McNamee has zero credibility based on previous lies.

Clemens has zero credibility because he has everything to lose and will take the Pete Rose / Barry Bonds route.

McNamee has no credibility only because he was defending Clemens and others initially. The fact that he kept everything confidential with each of his 'customers', even with Pettitte and Clemens, gives him some integrity, unlike all the others involved with loose lips. I think his story now and his motives are believable, but not provable. So Clemens will probably get off legally, but be convicted by the media and deservedly so.

It's really a shame, but I guess exposing him is beneficial to the players that stay clean, and a good lesson for up and coming athletes that cheating won't help you.

It surprises me that McNamee is dragging everyone under the bus with him though. If he was already screwed, why didn't he just keep his mouth shut and take his hits and work a deal with these bigtime players to take care of him? Maybe he offered them that and they told him to piss off.

How come Sammy Sosa never got a congressional committee for his corked bat?

Ok so let's try a few easy numbers to see if we have an issue or not.

Suppose we have a gasoline powered car that get 20 MPG. That's very realistic I think. It would produce a gallon of water for every 20 miles traveled. So if one were to scatter the ice crystals from one gallon of gas over a 20 mile track could that cause any safety problems? I don't think so.

I understand that to produce the same power one needs to consume about four times as much hydrogen gas as gasoline liquid by volume.

Let's not use the 4:1 ratio. Let's go to the extreme.

Suppose we have a hydrogen powered car that gets only 1/20th the MPG of the gas car. That would mean putting out a gallon of water every mile. So would it be a hazard if the ice crystals from a gallon of water were uniformly distributed over a 1 mile strip? Again, I don't think so.

This is totally off the cuff so please poke holes in my reasoning.

I'm late to this party, but very interested. As far as your stated theory above, it sounds fine for one car, but if you put thousands of cars on that track, things could get interesting.

OK, so what if every car on the planet emitted only water vapor as a byproduct?
Would we then see a change in the climate of the world? Like lots more rain? Less sunlight? Growth of polar ice caps? Reverse global warming?

Damn, I hate humidity!

Not sure about that. State Farm allowed me to set the replacement price of my car. I named the number, $10k, they agreed. Now if I told them $20k, might have been an issue.

DOES NOT EXIST.

Trust me, I've looked high and low. BTW, don't confuse it with stated value or actual cash value, they are different.

Your only choices are to be either under insured, or to lie to your insurer about your driving habits.

Question: Why do you think your car is worth more than other similar ones in the autotrader? An insurer doesn't want to cover a $10K car for $15K because it opens them up to fraud. And in all honesty, why should you ever be entitled to more than replacement value?

Semantics. Low conductivity = high resistance. They are inverse of each other.

Pure water will dissolve your metals.
Mineral water will cause galvanic corrosion.

You can't win. That's why we add 40% ethylene glycol. It isn't there just for the freeze/boil protection! Personally I think the galvanic corrosion is a bigger issue. The aluminum intake on mine corroded to the iron head and allowed coolant to leak into the engine on my car.

Proper coolant maintenance and driving the car regularly will prevent this from ever happening.

My wife and I had our first kiss up on Mt. Washington, by the incline. I lived in New Eagle, commuted an hour every day to the Ross Park Mall, where I was the manager of a Kay Bee Toy & Hobby.

She lived in Munhall, practically across the street from the old steel mills. I hear there has been a lot of development where the mills used to be. I haven't been back to PA since about '99.

Oh, crap... Nevermind. So much talk about PA, I was thinking you were from there. Seems like several members here are. Dang, that is quite a drive!

I think what you have to do, if you carry full coverage on your Vette is to insure it on an agreed value. Most companies will allow this for an older car. Your rates will reflect this agreed value, and they won't go for crazy valuations like $1,000,000.

You are correct in assuming that at some point, the cost of full coverage will outweigh the benefits you might receive in case of total loss.

Only you can determine what that point is though. If your car is paid for and you would not have a problem in replacing it, if it was a total loss then I would say full coverage is not cost effective.

Having a full coverage insurance policy is just protection for stuff you can't afford to replace on your own. But at some point, you will have paid out more in premiums than the car is worth.

The above only applies to comp and collision, as I am assuming you must carry liability insurance at all times.

CSS, The guard/reserves also account for a large portion of the total forces in the aor. At one point they consituted half the force in theater. It only makes sense that half your force accounts for half your suicides.
Guard and reserve troops for the first 2 or 3 years of this war were also treated like crap in the aor by the active components and recieved less training and inferior equipment. Heck, the DOD just recently awarded 4 star level to the director of the national guard. Even at the highest levels we were getting shat on. Most of that was because we hadnt made the difficult transition from a cold war strategic reserve force to an active participant force as now. In many ways its tougher to be guard/reserve than active. We get less benefits/trainging and spend less time on active duty but still get deployed and are expected to keep up with active components. We also have to try and maintain our home life and proffesional civillian careers. Theres alot of factors that play into it.

I thought liquid glass sucked. It was way too abrasive and left scuff marks in the paint that I had to polish out later with something finer. I wouldn't recommend it on black paint.

Well I carry full coverage on all my cars including 2 million in liability.

AS far as the collision helping you.....If I understand your question, If your car is written off by the insurance company after an accident at the very least you will get a check of some value.

No coverage = no check. Just the wrecked Vette to sit in your driveway. So yeah I would say it's worth it. JMO

I think the property tax increases are restricted in CA. I know Hawaii had problems with that where people literally owned their homes but were forced to reverse mortgage or sell to afford the ridiculously high property tax increases. How stupid are we to let the govt' tax us on something we own?

I think it's complete bullshit that it's based on property value too. Why should the guy next door on the same street, same lot, with a nicer house be paying more than his neighbor?

The goal here is, when they need to tow a car off track (whether its stuck or just broken), to not spend 30 minutes dicking around with the driver that's more concerned about his paint getting scratched by the tow strap than about the track time he's taking away from the other drivers.

Sounds like a MAJOR training issue! Do Guard and Reserve troops get the same training as regular military?

Almost sounds like the proverbial sending boys in to do a man's job. They can't handle the truth. Not saying anything against Guard or Reserve troops. I'm sure they are tougher folks than I. But if they do not get the benefit of the same training both physically and psychologically, the results could be frightening.

I heard the Bush signed the economic stimulus package, and checks would be sent out in May. Is that the final deal, or are there more hoops to jump through?

As far as the stimulus deal...I heard it's a done deal. Any one under
$75 K a year will be getting a check. I think that's what was on GMA last week.

Well lets see........When I'm on the road I always stop and have at least 1 hot meal a day. I don't know how some people can eat sandwiches all day. If I don't have something hot at least once a day I feel like poop.

As for what I like...Yesterday I was lucky and delivered to Reading Pa., about 30 miles from my hometown so I knew where the good food was. Stopped at a truck stop/local people hangout and had veal with tomato sauce, mashed, corn and endive with hot bacon dressing. Top that off with warm rice pudding with whipped cream. Mmmmmmm

Is it lunch yet???

Happy eating Guru's.

On that forum which will not be named there is a thread discussing insurance full and or basic.... I know we discussed it some, however there is a lingering question, or two...

If I have full coverage yet the possibility exists that after an accident my car is totaled out because the repair cost exceed the value of the car, has full coverage insurance helped me? I think there is the factor of diminishing returns when it comes to having full coverage insurance....

I am still looking for insurance that will give me a agreed upon value yet still allow me to use the car as a daily driver....

thoughts anyone?

No, not yet I don't. I am figuring on either getting that ability this spring or taking the car to someone who does. Everything seems fine now but after I run it a little and work the bugs out I will most likely have someone go over the tune. I'll watch the spark plugs to make sure it isn't running way lean or rich in the mean time.

Would I use RO or DI in the coolant system? NO WAY... why? whats your block and internals made out of? Metal... metal will leach into the water because the water is "pure".... in turn it will create havic and damage to your engine. All metals will leach into the water guranteed!

Yes but if you add a DC power supply to already contaminated (Tap) water then you have increased the rate of metal deterioration 10 fold.

You bring up a good point about the water wanting to absorb what it contacts, but you are overlooking the Electrolysis that occurs with a liquid that has very little resistance. so the closer you are to pure the Higher the resistivity of that water the lower the rate the metal will dissolve into said water.

absolute is what science is always after, The closer to absolute the better in many many cases. However as we figure out how to magnify and inspect we get a better understanding of what absolute is.

My point is this, You are right with your point, the metal will dissolve into pure water. But is that rate of dissolution greater or lesser than it would be with a water that is highly conductive coupled with a 12v DC charge constantly running through it?

you made Very Very good post. that is thought provoking.

Gawd I hate being sick. Luckily it happens to me very rarely, but when it does it's never the sniffles and a cough, it's a knock-down drag-out brawl with germs that lays me out for a week or more. Sucks.

I just sit there and get pissed off about all of the things I can not do that I want to, like go out, work on the car, drive the car, drive the car to work, work on the car so I can drive it to work, etc...

I've seen HOT DI water used as a degreaser for some metal finishing operations. Whether that's good or bad circulating through your engine block and radiator, I don't know.

Good vids, Case!

Hey, is it just me, or was Brown's band sporting TWO bass players in the first video? That's crazy man! The guy up high in the back looks to have a white Fender Precision Bass, and the guy on the left side of the stage looks to have a Fender Jazz Bass in a sunburst color.

James Brown's layin' down the booty shakin' frequencies!

And further proving that white folks can't dance...

"Over half the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan who committed suicide were Guard and Reserve troops, new data shows". from the Wall Street Journal.

No rain... I think my cold has finally left the building. Last night I was SO damned achy... my knees hurt like crazy and were actually HOT! I slept if off, and woke about 0300 all cold and shivering...l that's called the fever breaking. I feel MUCH better today.

I still have a little congestion and a touch of a tickle in my throat, but the worst has passed.

Another hot/wet day in paradise. With a high of 80 and a forecast of rain most of the day (we need the rain) I've had it with the heat!

What do you folks do for lunch while you're at work? Do you bring stuff from home or go out? What are your faves?

I go out pretty much every day. I wish I could get away from that, but I simply love food too much. (And it shows)

Some of my favorite places:

Panera Bread: Roast Beef on Asiago Cheese bread with French Onion Soup

Chipotle: Burritos bigger than your head! Chicken, Rice with lime seasoning and cilantro, grilled onions and green peppers, a nice fresh mild salsa, cheese and lettuce.

Borriello Brother's Pizza: The ONLY place in Colorado where you can get REAL New York style Pizza! Not sure why these guys are the only ones who can get it right, but I've tried lots of places. Thank goodness this place is close to my office. Nothing like some big ass slices of thin-crust NY style, folded over with a large Coke! Mmmmmm, mmmmm!

Sometimes I hit Burger King or Popeye's, but I am kinda trying to stay away from the fried foods a little.

So, what's for lunch?

Good Morning Gurus!

I'm a little behind this morning. My compy at work had some updates to download before I started.

Snow on the way for me tonight. I am SO done with winter, it's not funny.

So, how's things?

EXACTLY. When I took it apart I made a note to where the distributor rotor was pointing and where the #1 terminal was in accordance with the #7 rocker arms, when the engine was at #1 TDC. When put all back together those had me real close. It literally turned over 2 times and fired up. It spit and sputtered and shut off, but refired instantly. I wiped the cylinder walls down with oil before I reassembled so I'm sure that is why it sputtered. I just can't wait to road test it so it is tested under load and make sure there aren't any major problems. I just bought a used smog pump delete bracket and pulley setup from ebay for $100. It was a $120 or best offer, so I offered $100 and he accepted. He has 2 so if anyone else is interested go check it out.

A boating buddy is looking for a C5 Vette..
(I know- I tried to talk some sense into him to buy a C4 instead, but he is a hard head)
Must be a Vert
Must be white
Interior 1. Black or 2. Red
Must be in above average condition.
He will not budge on above.
He is willing to go anywhere in the USA to p/u.

Anyone have a line on one?
