There is Bare Aluminum and Clad Aluminum (sheet stock). The Clad Aluminum can be buffed to a very smooth and shiney surface. Almost chrome like, little different in color and depth.

Looking at his website, looks like he got a 90.
You want to open your ECM and check if the Calpack/Eprom is seated properly. You might have a Hypertech- or a custom chip on a carrier that is loose? If the Calpack has a tight fit, time to change the ECM.

What kind/size socket for O2 sensor on LT4?

I'm gathering up tools before spring, and assume I'll need a special socket to remove and install these? I don't have the car here so I couldn't check it out. I'll also be pulling the knock sensors, but from what I could find, it sounds like those are just deep sockets?

Thanks in advance!

I have not done anything to the car that would affect the battery and know about the new stereo - sys issues - I still have stock. I do need to buy a Helms manual but don't have access to one right now. The only codes stored in the car are 1.1 H41 and C41. I did e-mail Bogus who said I should post my question here to get more answers. I told him I thought it could be the alternator which I guess it isn't; he informed me about how the ECM, CCM and EBCM all work and when something isn't connected it gets screwy. About to go check all the wires and connections, see if I can't find something out of the normal, any suggestions? I was thinking about unplugging everything from the ECM, seeing if I can clean things up some and putting it all back together.

Why only a c4guru sticker you ask? Well, because of the off chance that another member could identify me as a part of this community we have here. Also, to encourage other c4 owners to join.

I don't put stickers on any of my cars. I would consider taping it up. They are too darn hard to get off.

Right! The wire I tapped into is the relay ground only. Later! Frank

Do the fan relays switch the fan motor grounds or the 12V side?
The secondary side of the relay is fed 12 volts from a fusible link. The primary side is hot only with the ignition on. When the computer grounds the primary side, the relay closes and the secondary side sends the 12 volts from the fusible link to the fan motor, which has it's own ground. In short, "the 12V side".

From what I have found, an ECM from an 86 or 87 is compatible with my 88. On the dark side I found a part number of 1227165. On ebay there is a guy selling one that is supposed to have come off an 85. However, the number is BUB 0122 7943. Would this be a correct part? I cannot find anything on a part number ending in 943.

Changed the fuel filter lately? I had a similar problem with my 96. Had good fuel pressure but would stall or die on accelleration. If I'd wait for awhile it woud run, but not for long if I gassed it. I pulled the fuel pump and the FP filter was sucked up into the pump. I pulled the filter and it had a ton of $hit in it. It had pressure but no volume & no codes??

I am going to change it even if it does not fix the problem. It is cheap and it can't hurt.

Pull ALL of the codes and follow the trouble shooting charts in your [color=darkblue:306d79576b]FSM[/color:306d79576b], starting with the lowest codes and working your way up. It is unlikely that either the ECM or CCM is the problem. Unless you know these cars, inside and out, backward and forward, any other method is just wasting time and money.

The door sills are apparently different for an 84 vs 88. I don't know if that was an option on yours or not. I do know it is hard to find what I am looking for. I am going to visit a fabricator tomorrow and see if he can come up with something for me in a brushed aluminum finish.

Sounds like a connection problem somewhere. I would wait for bogus to chime in as he could give you a pinpoint starting location. Have you done ANYTHING to it right before the problems started? Any electrical mods could easily short stuff out as I have recently found. So if you have a new radio, or other newly installed electrical trinket that might have something to do with it....just food for thought.

Hey guys, I had been having some trouble with my car recently. The SES and SYS lights were coming on at the same time and would go away pretty quickly, they would come on about the same times going to work. One day I had trouble starting the car at work so my dad and I replaced the battery that weekend and things were going well but the light started coming on again. Then this weekend we cleaned up some grounds and checked all the connections to the starter, alternator and distributor and all seemed tight and clean. The following evening the light came on again (damn!), and has been getting progressively worse. Today when I got to work the car would idle pretty rough and try to die on me and the voltmeter would go up and down. I tried starting it a few times on my breaks and at lunch and would take a try or two but would turn over ok and then driving home after work the light stayed on continuously until I got off the freeway. The light turned off then started blinking and when I stopped at the first light on the way home the car tried to die on me again. I finally got her home and had to actually push her into the garage and could not get the car to start again. This is my daily driver and need to fix this possibly today. I also found out how to pull CCM codes last night as opposed to ECM codes and pulled a C and H41 in 1.1, could the alternator cause this? The car would read normal voltage when driving but not while stopped/at idle.

Found out it is not the alternator, so is it my CCM or ECM? I'm going to check all connections later and clean them up - hopefully I can get this fix itself. Where is the CCM by chance? I want to check all connections to it as well.

Welp, got another good deal and I could not pass on it. This ended shortly after the superbowl which is why it went so cheap. I should be able to pick it up tomorrow.

i just sent that seller this email:

I saw your auction on ebay for the C4 competition headers and was wondering about your street version. Do they have the O2 sensor port and the a.i.r. fittings and the egr flange? What about a forward Y pipe to hook up to my stock size (3inch inlet) Random Tech converter? I tried to use google to find your website, but was unable to.

Thanks,

I did this mod to my 92 and really like the option to run the fans when I need them. One thing, when the switches are on and you go above 35 mph, you'll most likely get a check engine light.

Chrome plating aluminum is slightly different than plating steel. First, we should define what a "show chrome" finish is. Show chrome is a three to four step plating process. That is why show chrome (or decorative chrome) is sometimes called "triple chrome." OK, show chrome is: copper plating, then nickel plating (sometimes two layers of nickel) and finally chrome plating. When you look at chrome, you are actually seeing mostly the nickel plate. Chrome is thin and transparent, and really serves to protect nickel from corrosion. So really you don't see the chrome although chrome does slight;y "color" the final product.

Aluminum is zincated because it deoxidizes the aluminum and insulates it so it cannot oxidize before and during plating. When the part is plated, as it is lowered into the solution, the zinc is dissolved and the bare aluminum is plated.

OK, so back to the original question. Why don't you see chrome on aluminum. Outside of the above explanations, aluminum requires an extra plating step in that it must first be plated with zincate (Zinc) so that copper plating will bond, then nickel, then chrome.

Long story short, plating aluminum is more expensive than chrome plating steel, and aluminum can be treated cosmetically with cheaper methods.

The computer grounds the relay which starts the fan. I have tapped into both ground wires and tested the wiring. Both start fine. My concern was if the small wire low amp circuit would carry the load. I like a light because I am old and getting a little senile. I don't want to be running both fans any more than necessary. I think you answered my question Coaster. Thanks to all that responded. Later! Frank

Yes, those are the bulbs I am referring to. For some strange reason, my 86 is using a completely different bulb. I had purchased a kit from Mid America that had the 882's in it. My cluster was using bulb # 7073 (which is a different base) which is used on the 89 clusters. I searched around and could not locate the 7073 bulbs, so I ordered the 4 from Mid America (was $ 20 for all 4). I figured since the dash was a little dim and I had everything apart, I might as well replace while I have easy access to them.

Yeah even with those tacky looking cabinets, you can still just cut or remove the curvy shit and throw some new knobs/hinges on the existing doors. The counter does look dated, and the linoleum floor has gotta go.
Worse case thats what we were thinking too. Maybe throw some new doors on though.

Well it certainly is an interesting business. As you know it is always challenging getting the shot right and on many shoots we have waited hours just to get the light right.

I've watched grips take hours lighting a car for about a 5 minute shoot.

I loved the work but it is pretty demanding.

What you're doing sounds cool too but I guess once you lose the interest in it for any reason it would be hard to make a good product.

The free lance Gig is a good one for sure. I've also worked with many Directors that free lanced for Ford Communications Network. They were pretty cool people and from what I could gather, like you they did very well financially.

I wish you luck with the new adventure. I'm sure you'll be fine. Keep us up to date if you can.

One question though. Where in Pa. is your wife from?? I grew up in Lancaster County. Ephrata to be exact.

Take Care
Gary

My 84 has a plastic sill with a little pad on it where you slide across, it matches the interior color, I thought it was factory?
