Congrats Matt! I've been a busy boy today. Cleaned out my computer room. Part of the room will become the grandsons Xbox game room. Set up a TV and there are a couple chairs. I trashed a bunch of old computer parts today and a couple of old computers. That's OK I got a 'new' laptop in the mail yesterday sans HDD, but I've got one ordered, thanks Bill!

Ron, it's more of that liberal thinking crap. Some kids (most), need to be spanked. It isn't child abuse.

I don't know Don, I only counted three the first time through, that's what I call a dufus.

Actually the kids aren't too bad today, not sure what's up. the weather is more seasonal today mid 60's and chance for some t-storms this afternoon/evening. Only 10 more days of students.

We've hauled a couple loads of the daughters' stuff to the house. I finally procured a place to go with the rest of her stuff in a couple weeks. Life is going to change here for me at about the end of the month. I'm trying to prepare myself for the 24/7 of three grandsons and a daughter.

Sawyer.....that's my newest grandson's name.

Morning guys. I've been busy again today. A few people who don't want to do anything, I'm in no mood to fight them, I'll just dock their grade for the day. Got the last table sanded now just a little finish sanding and they are ready for finish.

Tommy and Ron, I hope that you get to feeling better. Fluff, glad to see you back, beautiful place where you live. Brad, did you have any snow up there? One of the other teachers talked to his dad (somewhere in Nebraska) and they had 4" overnight. Matt good luck with the weekend activities, I'm sure that you are getting antsy.

Well, I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

I agree with 95Vert, leatherique.com products are good. I used them to re-dye the seats in my 94. Sent in a swatch and it matched perfectly.

Notice the orange streak across the seam

That's a bad deal Pete. Your right, things we fret over can be minuscule in comparison. I would love to go to BG for the C4/ZR1 get together. Birdie two of the first three? Brad you must be a great golfer! I haven't had a birdie in more than a year.

Kids are a little better today, it's cloudy and a high expected of about 60, so it has cooled the heals of the kids as well as the air. Seniors only have 6 more days. We have 7 of the 8 workbenches sanded, I guess I'd better acquire some polyurethane to put on them.

Hope everyone has a great Weds.

Well, it appears that you have made your decision, but here's my .02. I had a seal leaking in the front of my 94 and when I took everything off to replace the seals I decided to replace the opti and water pump. I bought genuine GM parts... within 4000 miles I was having issues that I couldn't track down with rough running, sputtering, etc. Someone suggested the opti, but I discounted that because I had a "brand new one". Well as it turns out the opti cap was crap...carbon arcing all over the place. Instead of just buying a cap and rotor, I bought an MSD and installed it. I was totally impressed by the quality of the MSD unit. Mine had the 'square' O-ring. It was running like a champ the day I traded it off.

Good morning guys! Well it's a typical day in high school in May....spring fever has set in , but good. The kids are wound up. Today is supposed to be a little nicer, weather wise today.

Played golf last night...well I went out to mens night and swung at the ball. Played with a guy who likes to tell you everything you're doing wrong and correct you to the hilt. He means well, but doesn't come off like that. He finally told me on #4 not to use my club to tee off with, but use his driver, I told him what would happen, but I did use it and did exactly what he told me and I sliced it out off bounds (just like I told him would happen). So then he says "well you need to stand clear over to the right and aim left and let the ball fade back to the middle." I told him "I know that, and if you were watching earlier, that's exactly what I was doing". Any way on the next tee box he said "Just go ahead and do what you want." "OK, thanks." And I proceeded to put the ball in the middle of the fairway....what a tool.

Well I get to school this morning and find out that the school board has decided to offer me a contract for next year, so I am officially back for at least another year. I'm still retiring and will start receiving my pension checks, big difference is that I will be taking a hit on my salary do to the state laws about double dipping.

The front that just moved through here, northeast of here just got a severe storm warning and they were talking about the wind "rotation", so it's only a matter of time.

Hey guys, been pretty busy today. I have been listening to the Fab Faux that Brad posted about....on the third time through....yea!

Matt, take your time and do it right. Do what you can to work him down.

Ron, I have 3 of the 8 tables sanded here. Most of my students are gone this afternoon, golf, baseball, etc. I am working on a computer...again. Seems to be a never ending process.

Wind just came up....whhooooo about 50mph, shook the building.

That was great! I am a big Beatles fan. Most remakes s*ck IMO. This one is the best I've heard.

Probably my favorite LP was Abbey Road and side two is better than one.

I bought a HannG monitor for a friends computer, it died less than a year old, when I contacted HannG for service info they replied once and when I told them the problem they wouldn't answer my emails or phone calls again. I'll never buy another HannG product.

Morning gurus. I think it is supposed to be a little warmer today, but much more windy. Funerals are not much fun Matt, but unfortunately a part of life we can't seem to get past.

Well, I have a bunch to do today. The grandson is playing ball again this weekend. We went and watched two nephews play tennis yesterday (one made it to state) and then on over to watch the grandson (they lost both games), got home at 10 pm. He's got games again today, but we're not going. We have a basement room to clean out and try to get some room for when the daughter moves back into the house later this month. I finally secured a place to go with the excess furniture, but much of her household stuff is going into the storage room in the basement. And I have to wash the bugs off the front of the Vette (we took it yesterday). Possibly the wife and I will go over to the daughters house and move a few things over, just depends on how much we get done here.

Hey guys...been a long day. Just checked in a couple times when I had a couple minutes. I just got home from the full day of "spring fling" and our local County Relays. It was a long day, I had to run off the javelin (both boys and girls), it takes forever to do. I'm ready to veg out this evening.

Don't know about running in compatibility mode, but I would agree that it is a huge improvement over Vista. Also have to agree with VB on PC's limitations working with media files.

Bill, Pete, what type and how old of computer is the old one? Are you interested in getting rid of it. Maybe I can put a new drive in it and use it. ????

The wifey thought of the same thing. She doen't have one, so she is going to order a replacement hard drive.

Morning guys....

Matt, unfortunately you have to go through with it. It's a b!tch, but it will be worth it in the end. I know that Don went through that not that long ago.

DB....I remember those days, mine came back positive and they had to go in again......

Brad, I saw that on the weather this morning...yuk. We are to be at 85* this afternoon and then a big cool down for tomorrow 62*.

Got to get out in the shop, I got someone trying to cut their fingers off.

Heck yea, We're lucky to see the kids twice a week. But next year, I have to start over on the sick leave. They will pay me for the days I have built up....maybe $25/day....and I get to start over with 10 days next year, so it will be more difficult to take those two days off each week.

Actually, been thinking it over....double dipping isn't going to be a bad deal.

Morning gurus. Matt, I bet you're getting anxious...other than paying for it. Brad, we are cooler today as well, not quite down to what you're going to experience, but 15-20* cooler than yesterday. Don, I can sympathize with you, it's probably going to be a long summer. Ron, man you experience things there, that I have never experienced in 31 years here. Thank God.

We started sanding the bench tops today, and several kids are finishing up a few projects. We will be wrapping up the school year in due time. I had a kink in my back yesterday and I went to the Chiropractor for a treatment, still a bit sore today. One more day of school this week, Friday we are having a "Spring Fling" kind of a play day....a reward for the school because the classes passed the state assessments. Then we let them out early, because we are hosting the biggest track meet in this part of the state and all the teachers have to work it, so I guess in reality we (the teachers) don't get out early but have to work late.

Things could be worse.

Oh man, Don, sorry to hear about that. I didn't catch that thread earlier. Sure hope you can get it back together ASAP. May as well do it right.

Matt that's great, now the fun begins. Brad, it's hard to believe that the Corsas were that loud, but you have to be the judge. Don, am I missing something? What's going on with your Corvette?

It's a pretty typical May day here at school. Kids are actually working today. Baseball bats are very popular turning projects in the spring time. so I get to spend some time out there working on the lathe.

OK, at school now and things have eased a bit. I got over being tired...for now. For the first time in over a week I have had all my students here....that'll change for the afternoon classes as there are several activities going on this afternoon.

It was a long day yesterday see Sunday chat. We start up our Men's night golf tonight, so that will be fun....I hope. I haven't even pulled the clubs out of the basement yet, liable to be ugly for me, and I feel sorry for whomever draws me as a partner.

I just got home from baseball tourney. They won the first game which put them in the 3:00 game...but they were running 1 1/2 hours behind. They lost that one which put them into the 6:30 game, by then they were almost 2 hours behind. They played and lost 6-3, game over at 9:45. jumped in the pickup and headed home. Dropped off the daughter and grandson and came on home...got here at midnight.

I got to head to bed.

Hey folks, I've been at the grandson's baseball tourney all day. Got up, got the stuff together, drove two and half hours, sat for an hour and half before the first game, watched them lose 6-5, sat for another 2 hours before their second game, which they won 8-4 (grandson pitched 4 innings and allowed 3 runs with 6 K's), got in the car and drove back two and a half hours, now I'm about to doze off. And the best part???? I get to do it all over again tomorrow.

Sounds like everyone has had an eventful day...VB you sound like you got the best of that ole shampooer.

Thanks guys for the support. I just finished talking to the Principal...he's very glad that I have reconsidered. The position will change somewhat. He's been interviewing the candidates as teaching 4 periods high school and two middle school, so it looks like I will have a different schedule for next year. Maybe a year from now I can let it go. I will be retiring anyway and will be "double-dipping". My pension doesn't change, but I will have to work for a reduced salary. Doesn't matter, I'll be money ahead and the difference isn't that much.

I'm glad that I'm in a position to be able do this for my daughter and grandsons.

Well good morning gurus. I was blindsided last night. My middle daughter came in to say that she and her husband were splitting up. She asked to be able to move back in with us until she can get back on her feet, so before school is out we will have her and the three boys living with us. This situation is making me rethink my retirement plans. I am going to talk to my principal today about my staying on for another year....not sure about the correct procedure since I have officially resigned.

Didn't sleep to well last night....I hope all you gurus have a wonderful day.

Bill, did you run the update on the Malwarebytes? Run the update and see if there is a newer version of the database, if so download and run it again. Another little program I like is Ccleaner. Download and install it, it will find all the crap on the computer and clean it off.

XP Defender is a real PITA. That's what was on the computer that I worked on earlier this week. After a while it was just easier to do a fresh reload.

But did they crawl under the fence to get in? Would they have been happy about a few million Polish people sneaking in front of them after they did it the legal way?

Quote:
The thing is, we as a nation have aspired to be this eden. This place where anything is possible. And to deny someone access to that just seems marginally unfair.

There's only so much to go around. Order yourself a pizza and then share it with 10 illegals, because it's unfair that they don't have food. You'll go hungry. Fairness only works in fairy tails. Paying for other people's food and health care against my will isn't fair. I'd be all for illegal immigration if it didn't mean giving up the freedoms of myself or others that don't break the laws.

I understand the nature of the illegal issue, but until we accept the problem and build a 100' high wall, then we are going to continue with the problem. There is an 1800 mile boarder with Canada that is so unprotected...

Grant those that are here amnesty. Get them IDs and get them paying taxes. Let them start their 5 year clock to citizenship.

What good is a fence if you reward everyone that sneaks around it with amnesty? BTW, even legal citizens at the poverty level don't pay income tax. Illegal aliens already pay sales tax, so I don't see what good amnesty would do.

Quote:

Finally, much of the immigration issue is pointed at Mexico. For some reason, if this was an influx of intellectual Europeans, I don't think we would be having this debate.

Because intellectual Europeans aren't sneaking into the country in mass. They aren't running away from a lawless 3rd world shithole and bringing it here, (and breaking the laws right from the get-go to do it.)

Could not have said it any better myself!

Morning gurus. Supposed to be a nice day here, windy, but temps in the upper 70's. We have a track meet that we get out of school early for, but I have to work it. Yesterday I spent most of the afternoon cleaning my office and putting stuff together that belongs to me, that I have to get out before I turn in my keys. I have a stereo that I have had here for years, I decided to take it home. Took the speakers down and the shelf that I made for them and put them up in my garage at home.

Matt, I never leave a casino with money ahead, I just can never get ahead. Epi, that was probably quite a good time. Most of those "old guys" put on a great show.

Ron, I wish that the inservice days could be done away with, but most are mandated by the state, you know the morons who have never been in a classroom (as a teacher), and then tells us how it should be done.

Oh, well it's my last one.

Morning gurus.....We have a non-typical day here today. Inservice....a bunch of cr@p. Started with a faculty meeting and then State Standards review meeting. Lots of talk about "next year", I should have called in sick today, I guess those days aren't worth much when I retire and this is just a wasted day for me.

I'm back in my office now, supposed to be "planning for next year".....I guess that's what I'm doing......

Brad, I'm surprised that the Corsas are that loud, even with headers, if they are, then I understand about wanting to change them back. Don, I wish we had a club and the type of activities your group plans, sounds like a good time.

I stayed up too late last night, watched the news and then planned on going to bed. But I flipped over to HD movie channel and started watching a foreign (French) film with the sub-titles, and ended up watching it to the end. It was supposed to be really funny, and probably was, if you speak french, but reading the sub-titles it must lose something.

Well, I have some 'planning to do' (working on repairing a computer).

Afternoon guys, it's been a typical day here, except that I have been busy. Working on one of my students computer. What a PITA it has been.

The wife is out of town for meetings for a couple of days, so I'm on my own...except for the grandsons after school.

I've ordered from Summit a few times and they darn sure deliver fast. Wind is blowing here today as well, not as hard as Bill's wind but still windy. The C4/ZR1 gathering always sounded like a good time to me, go have fun. I haven't even thought about taking the golf clubs out of the basement yet....maybe in the next couple of days....mens night starts on Monday.

I'm reluctantly back at work this morning....No fights here, at least physically, got some words going back and forth.

Brad, sure hope you get your exhaust put on, they can be one huge PITA. A good expander is hydraulic powered.

Matt, just ignore them, and continue doing your job, some people just like to blow.

Don, I could care less about what needs to be done, but my situation allows that attitude.

Man not much action here today. I've been busy all day. Just got back from the in-laws about 8:30pm. Was a beautiful day, too bad I didn't get to spend much time outside. Oh well.

Brad, did you get the Corsa installed?

Afternoon guys, I just got the computer out...funny someone near the in-laws have wireless internet...unsecured. I have done absolutely nothing today. Sat and watched TV. It's been rainy and dreary all day. The Wife asked me if I wanted to play a card game with her folks and her...I said No. 35 years of marriage, I've learned not to stir the pot.

We are getting ready to go out to the wife's sisters place for supper. I guess I'll have to go outside.....

Morning guys. It's a pretty good Friday. The kids are actually working. Don't know if you guys read my last post last night, but we had some excitement yesterday. About 5pm the tornado sirens start going off. We had a large tornado just southwest of town headed northeast. By large I mean 1-1 1/2 miles wide. Luckily it passed just north of town about 3/4 of a mile. A friend lost two fifth wheel campers, "tossing them around like toys". He also had some damage to his house and shop, mostly from large hail...baseball to golfball sized. I haven't heard of any other major damage.

Today is bright sunny and headed to mid 60's. I'll have a real light load this afternoon with track, baseball and golf all gone. After school we are headed to the in-laws for the weekend. Might take the Vette.

So sorry to hear about your grandmother DB. My mother made the same decision when her time came. Said she had lived a good life and was ready.....

Well we dodged a bullet this afternoon. Had a big tornado pass by town here earlier. By big, I mean nearly a mile wide. Thank goodness it stayed just north of town leaving us here in town with a lot of heavy wind and some rain. A friend lost his fifth wheel camper and some damage to his house. That's all I've heard so far.

Tech guys, what a bunch of losers when it comes to shops...

The guy they interviewed was 'old school'. I talked to the principal about it a little bit ago and he said, "Well, he's not you. Are you sure you don't want to stay on for another year or two?" My reply was a very quick "NO".

You and teebee will always be indispensable. Next year it would be somethiing else. Stay if you want to stay. If not, let them transfer the kids to a basket weaving class. The education system today, in my opinion, has lost it's focus. It's not the teachers, they have to roll with the changes. Kids have to learn marketable skills. I'm sure they could find another candidate. It just would not be another you.

There is no focus/the academic wing teaches for a standardized test the students take in the spring. Next week it will be another crisis! still little Johnnie can't read. The focus seems to be drifting away from kids and more about what the educational elite think should be taught. Ranting again!!!

Ok, I'll jump in here about now, been busy this morning. I'll start off by saying that we actually interviewed a guy for my position yesterday. Really surprised me that there was someone willing to come out here....but I guess he is actually a graduate of our school here (before I came). He's not sure that he wants to leave where he is (tenure and a very secure position) to an unknown situation. I hope he takes the job as I hate to see the program die.

Now I will jump in and agree 100% with Ron on the direction that education is headed. In every education class I ever took, they were adamant about 'teaching to tests'.....never ever do it. But with the emphasis toward "Adequate yearly progress" (IE: read State Standardized testing), so everyone teaches directly to the test. Completely a 180* off what all the education classes told us. (gee, what's wrong with this picture). Bush's "No Child Left Behind" is a farce, and will make every school in the country a failure or excellent (at cheating-lying). NCLB sets standards that are eventually, absolutely, impossible to attain. And anyone who thinks otherwise is either an idiot or like an ostrich with their head buried in the sand.

Sorry, I'll turn the rant off now.

Ron, you have to make the decision that fits you. I know exactly the position you're in. Ready to get away from education, but hating to see the program close.
