A side note...Direct TV was running a free "Hot Pass" for the 500. I was on the Dale Jr channel when he stayed out on one of the last cautions when everyone else went in for fuel and tires.

He asked Eury Jr, "What are we doing Crewchief?"...Eury said something to the effect of "We can probably make it on fuel now" and Jr says "Your the F**Kin crew chief...you have to make the f**kin decisions"....

It was close to that not word for word...but man he sure likes to cuss on the radio. I guess since its a pay channel profanity is allowed.

I just finished building the motor, I was setting the timing and such. The oil is fresh, as is the motor.

Looking at the guages I was just wonderin how long it would take for the oil to come up. I was thinking since I'm taking it to an exhaust shop, the temp sending unit is no big deal since they're there.

Thanks, I probably wasn't letting it run long enough. I'll try to drive it around tomorrow (with open headers) to see if the temp comes up.

I didn't know that about the Crossfire..thats interesting. I guess it shows that someone from the show didn't do their homework.

I will watch it again, butnot sure for how long. I have Tivo, and its good to have stuff stored up when I am bored.

IMO most remakes are nowhere clsoe to being as good as the original. So I am glad they used a mustang the and the car can go down in flames!

Want revs? Buy a sport bike. V8s are about torque. I'd build that 350 into a 383 with a balanced stroker kit. A torquey engine is way more fun on the street than an engine you have to spin way up to get power from.

When I lived in the upper Midwest and had my hot rods stored in the winter, I would start them up once a month and let them idle for 20 minutes to half an hour. I would make sure the oil was heated up. I would also move the car forward and back and make sure the tires weren't sitting in the same spot.

Then, I wised up and moved to Southern California.

I tried to start the car with the clutch in and gear selected and the car moved, so, obviously the clutch is not releasing completely. I dropped the slave and see now where it has been leaking....so...a change is in order. The only question now, is do I do the right thing and spring for the line and the master at the same time....

I sent a PM to Central Coaster and he answered all my questions. Thanks again.

I needed a few pointers so I don't make mistakes like some others have made in the past. CC has his sh*t together.

I agree that my post @ CF has raised more issues for such a simple request. Since I got my Z, I've been hanging out in the ZR 1 section over there almost exclusivly. I didn't even remember this site existed to be honest.

My '85 takes about five minutes, depending on how hard you are driving. I drive the same route to work every day. I see my oil and water temps go from low to 150 degrees at almost the same point in my trip. My water hits 180 degrees or so depending on if I get caught at a light, then my oil hits 150 degrees about five minutes later. Also, I have an oil cooler, which makes a difference (heats up oil faster).

I let the car just idle for what seemed like 10 minutes. Maybe not long enough to get the oil temp up to where it needs to be?

That's what I'm really trying to figure out.

I don't know what that all-star moderating crew they have over there now is actually doing. People post tech questions and other things that don't belong in the parts f/s section for example and it usually takes them days to move it, if they ever do it at all. Yep, they're a bunch of real fireballs.....

What do you need to know exactly about lowering your car?

I want to lower the front crossmember (the one directly under and in front of the radiator) with 1" spacers. I need the lower the radiator support to increase the gap between the radiator and the hood so that I can draw intake air from in front of the radiator.

I might have issues with front sway bar clearance. Can you think of any other problems?

Question.....I only was able to idle the car in the garage.

The water temp got to operating temp on the dash guage.

The oil temp didn't seem to move much.

THe oil temp was always a little lower than water temp but I never noticed which got hot first and how long after they were at full temp.

Just want to know if I should pick up a oil temp sending unit or not.

Can anyone tell me how much after the water temp gets to normal, how long after does the oil temp catch up?

SEE WHY THIS IS SO CONFUSING!

Your right, it is a pump from a late model Chevy truck with the push on plastic lines and an o-ring.

[color=red]"The only way to use that would be to either flare the ends or use some tough hard line adapters with a steel ferrule"[/color:d901aecf2d]

Is there some way to convert these to a conventional fitting?

Aquavet, I’m still suffering some confusion also…I’ve seen some traffic about this same question on another forum, and I still have no clear answer.

LT4BUD has the best answer I’ve seen so far.

The Meziere is ready to be installed. I hadn’t considered a new timing set until took a good look at the one I took out. About 50,000 miles on a 383 that was built in 96, when the car was new….By the way, LT4BUD, if it’s an LT4, it can only be a 96.

I’ll keep ya’ll posted on what I finally do…maybe I’ll respond to the thread on that other forum..maybe.

this is a bubble flare, also called metric or iso flare

Resized Image

the ordinary inverse flare (and these come in double or single flare, depending on the tubing being seamless or not, regular is 45 deg, AN/JIC uses 37 deg but it's the same principle)

Resized Image

This is the o ring bead type
Resized Image

but it's used with a tubing nut just as any other flare:

You may or may not need to align after installing shocks. If the current shocks are low gas pressure (i.e. twintubes) and you replace with high gas pressure (i.e monotubes) the ride height will change a little and you may need to adjust the alignment slightly. The same applies to the reverse case.

It's probably less hassle to go ahead and change the shocks now so you don't have to worry about it.

That's not a bubble flare, a bubble flare is an inverse of a normal (inverted) flare, much like the british girling flare. It's a V shaped flare folded inward, not outward like a conventional inverted flare.

Anyway, a tubing bead like that is normally used for an o ring type seal, like on powersteering systems but again, there are no tube nuts present on the sections of tubing so it's got to be a different style, possibly push on.

I just had fuel lines made up they told me that was called a bubble flair. Now I'll have to look to see what I can find.

Shame about 76 Falls, no more bewbs :sad10: . I spent a fair amount of time there when I docked at Jamestown.

What is the lake going to be like next summer? It would be cool to make a trip of Somernites and a houseboat weekend.

The show itself was okay. The Shelby Stang looked cool as hell....I wish they would have stuck with something from GM though.

The only problem, the original car was a crossfire, it was visible in one of the episodes, where KITT wrecked, I think it was one of the KARR episodes but not sure.

The new series sucked IMO, of all cars it had to be a ford mustang

Those are called bubble flanges. You can have them made at any hydraulic shop. They fit into a hole with an o ring.

Unless that one is supposed to accept rubber fuel line.

Can't tell from the pic....

There are connector styles that use that sort of a formed collar and an o ring however since there are no tube nuts present and no way to get them on there past the collar those are used for that modern plastic fuel line tubing that you push on???

The only way to use that would be to either flare the ends or use some tough hard line adapters with a steel ferrule.

My opinion about the younger generation not having respect for us older gens.
Why should they, weren't alot of us the 60s and 70's kids?
The free love, burning flag and your draft cards along with a bra or two?
Wasn't it our gens that made it o.k. and a womans choise to have the younger gens dismembered, tortured, mangled inside of the womb, used for experaments and then thrown awy in a dumpster so they wouldn't be burdened with the responsibility of raising that child.
And was'nt it our generations that passed the laws against spanking our children to disipline them.
And it was our generation that lerft these indignant kids in front of the tube while both parents worked and went to all of the Shriners, masons,KOC,elks meetings or was it bingo?
Who was it that showed them how to pimp a girl out on the street or to manufacture newer and better drugs?
Whitch gen was it that taught them to hate others for the color of there skin? Hang the darkies!! didn't that used to be the battle cry for a past gen?

O.K., Yes the new gens are disrespectful of the older gens,BUT,What can you expect MORONS, WE'VE taught them too dammed well. Disrespect this, you do gooders.
