Coolant Diagram - anyone got one?

Anyone have any sort of diagram that lays out where all the coolant lines run, and how the coolant flows through the engine on an 89. I have a coolant leak I can't seem to trace down, and I just want to make sure I am not missing any lines anywhere, (like the ones going to the throttle body on the LT1 just for example) This is of course an L98

Nah, lets sit on it and drain everyone else's reserves first!

We know where most of the oil is, we just know it's not worth extracting most of it yet.

I'll be watching this thread for the same reasons. Mine is not making any noise, but at 80k miles, you might as well be thinking about this.

BUT.. it's all sort of pointless if you're running on original bushings. Those things will fuse together and bind up, or just fall apart. Even if new gas shocks raised your ride height, the bushings might let it rise unevenly. Or they might loosen up 3 weeks after the shock install. They might crack loose while the car is on jackstands and find a new binding position...

And if you're gonna pull the bushings out, then you've got easy access to those old ball joints and tie rod ends. Anytime you change those you need an alignment...

And you see how suddenly you've got the entire car torn apart because you just had a leaky shock.

Anyways, put your new shocks on, hit some speed bumps, head to the alignment shop, and call it a day.

So you have a CCD camera somewhere in my garage???

And I think many of these socialist systems hurt people's chances more than they help, including those at poverty level. Even if only due to the incompetence of large government. You get the feeling that all of these programs would be more effective if they were outsourced. And once you start outsourcing the government, you realize that most of the government wasn't necessary in the first place. Maybe they should just stick to managing subcontractors, and leave the real work up to laws of capitalism.

Things are not as bad in my little pocket of the world. A little slow right now, but over the next two years there will be tens of thousands of military folks and their families relocated to the Colorado Springs/ Pueblo area.

Many of them will buy homes in my neck of the woods. Once that happens, I hope to have my friends build me a larger house (with lots of garage space) and get a good price for my current home.

Fingers crossed...

Just a thought on the coolant temp sensor. While you're in that deep, might want to consider a new one just for preventive maint. if it hasn't been changed lately. I assume a 84 has one in the same location as 89?

Tough business now. Banks now, don't want to let money go. Huge excess (more homes than buyers) in many markets ie. Miami, Boca Raton, Las Vegas etc.

I'm not a mechanic, obviously. Think of the context here. I'm asking how to determine the viability of my shocks. Now, given that I am at that level, my ability to diagnose the rest of my suspension is suspect. That is one of the things I'm hoping to find with an alignment. I'm hoping I pick the right shop, and they'll give me an honest assesment of the condition of my suspension.

I just thought that shocks would be a good place to start.

One thing I'd like you guys to look out for prior to buying Shocks.

Look at the other items in your suspension first. This includes Wheel Bearings, U-joints on the half shafts, Dog Bones on the rears, Front ball joints.

You can blame the shocks for a vibration etc, but understand, they are primarily responsible for pushing your tire down quickly on the pavement after a bump or a drop off.

So many other factors in there to look at, the bushings are nearing the 3 decade mark....surely most are failing at this point.

The Guy will align your car while you are there, and the alignment will be accurate...until you hit a bump and reposition something with those 30 year old dried out bushings.

I'm not saying anything other than just think about it before you throw good money away.

Yesterday, when I started the 92, the water was at 40. I didn't look at the oil but, it was probably anround 40. I always run idle to 100 degrees water before I even move the car. That takes 5 to 7 minutes. At 100 water, the oil temp was 53 ( on the digital because the analog gauge is never even close to what the digital says). If I curse slowly the 2 miles out to the highway, the water is at 150 and the oil may get to 100.

So, if you're idling for 10 min. in the garage, you just have about enough oil temp to move the car and put a little load on the oil by driving. I thing this is especially important since you have a new motor and the clearances are still a little tight. Just my opinion.

We have a vintage Nascar with really tight tolerences in the 750 hp smallblock. The oil gets preheated to 140 every time before we start it.

Just a note from a realtor I know locally. She has sold 9 homes in the last two weeks. That's showing signs for improvement, at least for her. I have a friend in Boston closing on two condos they're buying in Hyannis Mass today. Turn baby turn. Everybody, go buy something. Let's not ditch the economy. I'm going out to buy a new printer.

We are only in a recession when people stop spending. Enough people saying we are in a recession, we stop spending and sure enough, we are in a recession.

Looking at retail sales last week (up) and Walmarts earnings today (up), we may have missed the (recession). Or it is passed.

The tubing will probably work but, it won't give you much bearing surface since it's fairly thin walled compared to the washers. If you have access to a drillpress, you could make some spacers with the same OD as the washers.

Take it to a radiator shop and get it done right.

I have a pin hole in a cross fin on a race car that came from crash damage. It spit out a very small stream when hot. Since I still had to get out on the track, I covered it with JB Weld. It fixed the leak. And, it's been 5 years and it's still not leaking, amazing.

Again, take it to a shop.

JB Weld is the shit.

I had a bolt hole on the right head, at the very front, gaul out. I was beyond pissed... I tapped it clean and after a few tries with a helicoil, gave it the final hit. The hole was bottomed, and I didn't have a bottom tap. I cleared the hole one last time, took the helicoil and coated it in JB Weld. I then took a stud and coated it in JB Weld. I screwed the stud in as far as it would go. 24 hours later, it held a 25 ft-lb torquing.

Ask Jr Rifle Coach if it's still there.

Amazing, ain't it? I've got an outside water faucet , one of the orange handled ones that sticks up out of the ground. Some dumb shit :silent: left a hose attached on a cold nite, it froze and cracked anout 1 inch above where the hose is attached. I JB Welded that 1 inch crack 10 years ago and it still holds water pressure.

There is a tube on that side that the PCV system used for inlet air. It runs from the throttle body back the the intake manifold. There is a rubber grommet on the end of the tube. Make sure the tube is plugged in and the grommet is not worn out. I would also check the PCV valve for proper operation. It is on the driver side under the injector cover. Later! Frank

Ha, they're in the mail, but I sent them to Chambersburg since I grew up there.

Stock type shock prices like KYB and Bilstein look inexpensive to me cause to rebuild just one of the steel bodied Koni's on my Formula Ford costs $165 and if I want to upgrade to Penske's, they're $875 EACH.

Hey folks I'm getting ready to change the water pump in my 84. It's not leaking yet but it's sounding like it will soon. Just posting to see if I should be aware of any surprises. I've changed dozens of water pumps, but never in a vette. Also plan on flushing out the system, changing the thremostat, upper and lower hoses, and clean out any debri around the radiator and AC condenser.

Thoughts, Ideas, Suggestions??

Thanks
Tom

I thought that at one time I read that extraction of crude in the US becomes profitable at a certain price point per barrel. Are we not passed that price point? Come on boys, lets fire up those rigs. Refineries, let's freshen up and expand your production potential.

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

CSS996: there is a Bullitt edtion Mustang coming out this year. Dark green with the correct wheels and no emblems. Saw it NAIAS, pretty cool for a Ford.

Hey, thanks for the heads-up!

I found some photos online. It is neat, but not quite as cool as I thought it would be. Perhaps the photos are not doing it justice. I can think of better ways to spend $33k, and you probably won't be able to get one for that, anyway.

Maybe a used one someday. I can wait.
